i think it means that the virgin mary had a tough time during her pregnancy to j. christ because she was divinely impregnated - but not everyone beleived it. i once sent them a message on their myspace page telling them how this song helped me through my difficult pregnancy and how everyone even the father thought i was a slut cause he didnt beleive it was his. and they wrote me back with a heart...:

I think everybody is taking this too literally.. I think this is more of a love song..They are singing about a godly, straight-laced woman who is like the Virgin Mary, and is afraid of 'acting out' or whatever. I think Madonna is really a metaphor... They are describing a 'perfect' woman who is afraid to rebel from the way she was brought up, etc., by smoking cigars, loving other women, etc.

Im not sure but i think i heard that their brother died, so maybe just maybe this is about it. Their mom is very sad, and they feel ignored.

This song highlights the ridiculous obsession Americans have with celebrities. In spanish 'lagrimas' means tears. People want to know everything about them. They'll take anything they can get--even if it brings these people (yes, they are people too) to 'lagrimas'. Paparazzi seek to know every detail of their lives: "miss madonna where you goin' after work In that preacher's car" They ask won't you 'let me underneath your halo' in order for them to be let in and discover what it is that makes them so different...glowing...angel-like.

I love Cocorosie's satire. They also use it in 'By Your Side'-- to mock the demeaning nature of housewivery.

They sing a lot of songs about religion that are meant to be taken sarcastically, but I don't believe this is. Mary is a figure in christianity that you can't really make fun of. Sure you can doubt the virginity aspect, but you can't not feel for the woman who's child was taken from her. Who was meant to "save the world". I believe they're giving a human persona to the mother of christ. That she was an individual with feelings.

im not so sure i understand these lyrics... what is the significance of the preacher's car? and smoking cigars? maybe she means she was cheating when she went in the preacher's car, and smoking cigars is seen as bad by some... so these things symbolise bad stuff... eugh, im not sure what else to get out of this part...

it is "after church". "work" doesnt even makes sense to me...

This amazing song goes hand in hand with Edvard Munch's "Madonna", and for me it has the same meaning.
