People say I'm no good and crazy as a loon
'Cause I get stoned in the morning
And get drunk in the afternoon
Kinda like my old blue tick hound
I like to lay around in the shade
And I ain't got no money but I damn sure got it made
'Cause I ain't asking nobody for nothin'
If I cant get it on my own
If you don't like the way I'm livin'
You just leave this long haired country boy alone
Preacher man talking on TV
Puttin' down the rock and roll
Wants me to send a donation
'Cause he's worried about my soul
He said, "Jesus walked on the water"
And I know that it's true
But sometimes I think that preacherman
Would like to do a little walking too
But I ain't asking nobody for nothin'
If I cant get it on my own
If you don't like the way I'm livin'
You just leave this long haired country boy alone
A poor girl wants to marry
And a rich girl wants to flirt
A rich man goes to college
And a poor man goes to work
A drunkard wants another drink of wine
And a politician wants the vote
I don't want much of nothin' at all
But I will take another toke
But I ain't asking nobody for nothin'
If I can't get it on my own
If you don't like the way I'm livin'
You just leave this long haired country boy alone
'Cause I get stoned in the morning
And get drunk in the afternoon
Kinda like my old blue tick hound
I like to lay around in the shade
And I ain't got no money but I damn sure got it made

A libertarian manifesto
This is the best song ever written about countrified, dope-smoking hippies, not the priveleged hippies that occupied colleges back in the 1960's. He leans to the right, he defends his way of life, and he's too drunk or stoned to do a hard day's work. But he doesn't give a shit and he doesn't want help from anybody. Can you blame him for really being lazy then?
Great song. Just stay out of my business and I'll stay out of yours. Wisdom to live by.
Perfect way of thinking. Personally I can identify with this song (outside of getting stoned in the morning and drunk in the afternoon). My life is my business so stay out of it. I love how he contrasts the rich and poor because for the 90% of the time part it's true. On a side note, I'd prefer to see the correct lyrics rather than reading it in text language. That just annoys me.

I want to know what he means by “sometimes I think that preacher man would like to do a little walking to”. I’m sure I’m not perfect on that but that phrase has always stuck with me. Does it mean he thinks the preacher wants to walk away sometimes? Take the parishioners money and run? Never got that line
@mooncricke could it be that "walking" is a metaphor for the carefree life he has?? That is perhaps the preacher wishes he didn't need to "sell" and "want" from others ... instead walk the life of the narrator ... "But I ain't asking nobody for nothin'"???
