Downtown Lyrics
We go with the flow
And here's a little secret I think you outta know
Providers and abusers they know where to go
From Sunday refugees to Sunday TV shows.
Ohhhhh.....
Downtown, all of the way downtown
Downtown, all of the way down
Downtown, all of the way downtown
All the way delow, below
Is it such a crime
Ohhh, the uptown can't teach you how to live
They don't have the time.
'Cos where I'm gonna take you
Is a state of mind. . .ohhhhhhh
Downtown, all of the way downtown
Downtown, all of the way down
Downtown, all of the way downtown
You gotta loose your money
You better use it all up
'Cos you can't take it with you when you're
Goin' down.
And you never come home baby
And you'll never be alone
All of the way downtown, all of the way
And you never come home baby
And you'll never be alone
All of the way downtown, all of the way
(Down, down, down, down)
And you never come home baby
And you'll never be alone
All of the way downtown, all of the way
And you never come home baby
And you'll never be alone
All of the way downtown, all of the way
At the very end when I first heard this song I thought Simon was saying "You never come home Dave, you never come home Davey" even though it made more sense at the time for it to be baby. But I was thinking, who is this Dave guy? And then a little later I found out that Simon had a friend named David who died due to a drug overdose and that he wrote a song in his memory before, "Do You Believe In Shame?" I thought I heard Simon say "Dave" at the end of that song too after listening to it. But it would make sense if Simon wrote "Downtown" for David too though I have no idea if he did or not. It doesn't really make any difference as far as meaning goes to the listener though it is always interesting to hear the story behind songs. But I just wondered if I was the only one who heard that or if it's really there.
Yeah, it's definitley about drugs.
"Cos where I'm gonna take you Is a state of mind."
This line forshadows "Drug"
