I got myself into some trouble tonight
Guess I'm just feeling blue
It's been so long since I've seen your face
This distance between me and you

That voice you showed me is not the one I know
I must be strung out on what I do
Don't hang up again
There's nothing else I know how to do

But I burn for you
What am I going to do
I burn for you
Burn for you

I guess it feels like you're always alone
And I feel that way too
It's so hard to explain to you
Please understand what I do

But I burn for you
What am I going to do
I burn for you
Burn for you

Took my trouble to a bar tonight
For another point of view
But there's nothing new
I'm missing you

But I burn for you
What am I going to do
I burn for you
Burn for you

I can't believe no one has commented on this song!!!!! It is like the bestest John Farnham song ever. I think it is about a break up, and he is just missing his ex. It is seriously the sweetest song everrrrrr. Aussie's got talent!!! -Hayles-

I love this song so much, I think it's underrated. It's one of the most romantic, passionate and beautiful love songs of all time. Burning for someone is just so intense, wow. Yeah this is one of john's best songs. He has such an incredible voice, he sings this song perfectly. He has actually explained what the song means to him.. it's about being away from your loved ones and missing them so much. I think it's especially about him being overseas and doing what he has to do (make music and perform) and he simply wants his wife (he is definitely married) to know that he burns for her and misses her so deeply. "I guess it feels like you're always alone And I feel that way too It's so hard to explain to you Please understand what I do I burn for you What am I going to do I burn for you Burn for you" This is simply a beautiful, passionate and breath-taking song. Sad as well. Very emotional

He wrote this for his wife. I was at his 2009 concert and he brought the room to tear talking about his wife and also there 2 boys on how he admires his wife work at a mother and a woman. Coming back home after tour meant having to come back to routine and having to fit back into family life. I admire his marriage to his wife. they are one strong couple

This song is def a twin to "Unfair" (a song she has been quoted as saying is about falling in love with someone who is already in a relationship) so it is presumably about the same person. Given the references to buying an apartment and not being able to see her love interest "after tonight," it's most likely that she's moving away and she'll "wait a day to break the bad news" (i.e. notifying him that she's leaving once she's already gone). And, of course, the fact that she sees in him a fellow "idealist" and "dreamer" (terms commonly given to people with the INFP personality on the Myers–Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)) portends that she'll always be left wondering if they would've been perfect together.

Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.

Techno Ted may be a person who caused Chris incredible emotional pain & trepidation as well as moments of peace & happiness but now is removed and awaiting his fate. Darling may be a different person who is also free of him and can live her life free of Ted's tyranny. "In between all the laughing, and daydreams ... lies: a desert of truth" Lies are like a desert or the omission of Truth: Where there were Lies then Truth was absent. The song, "Techno Ted", may be a cathartic celebration of the downfall of this person.

Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”
