This is how the story went
I met someone by accident
That blew me away
That blew me away

It was in the darkest of my days
When you took my sorrow and you took my pain
And buried them away, you buried them away

I wish I could lay down beside you
When the day is done
And wake up to your face against the morning sun
But like everything I've ever known
You'll disappear one day
So I spend my whole life hiding my heart away

You dropped me off at the train station
Put a kiss on top of my head
Watched me wave
You watched me wave
Then you went on home to your skyscrapers
Neon lights and waiting papers
That you call home
You call it home

I wish I could lay down beside you
When the day is done
And wake up to your face against the morning sun
But like everything I've ever known
You'll disappear one day
So I spend my whole life hiding my heart away (away)

I woke up feeling heavy hearted
I'm going back to where I started
The morning rain
The morning rain
And although I wish that you were near
That same old road that brought me here
Is calling me home
It's calling me home

I wish I could lay down beside you
When the day is done
And wake up to your face against the morning sun
But like everything I've ever known
You'll disappear one day
So I spend my whole life hiding my heart away
And I can't spend my whole life hiding my heart away

I think this song is about someone struggling with serious trust issues. She stays away from relationships because she doesn't want to get hurt. Then, she meets someone so special that she can't help but fall in love. However, she still can't get over her fear of abandonment and constantly thinks the person will leave her no matter what. She knows she shouldn't keep hiding her heart from people, but she can't help it because she doesn't want to face possible rejection. It's really sad, but I love this song. Brandi's voice is enchanting!

    My Interpretation

I think it's the end of "the story", as in the title track. She says in the beginning "this is how the story went"...so I think it's maybe how the end of that love story went. Sad but immensely beautiful.

I only just finally downloaded this cd. It's been on my radar for such a long time, as has Brandi, but I sometimes think the moment just has to be "right". Well last night it was TOTALLY right. I've listened through a few times. When I have time I'd like to listen to the entire album. I wonder if it comes through as an entire narrative. Those are usually, in my mind, the best albums!

I think the meaning is pretty straightforward - she fell in love, deeply, and then the relationship ended and with it so did her ability to open her heart again (at least up to that point). Poignant. Although I do wonder if the lines "Although I wish that you were here, That same old road that brought me here Is calling me home, It's calling me home" is a turning point. If she's back at a point where someone is catching her by surprise and opening her heart again.

I have to add, I completely resonate with the opening lines. The deepest I've ever fallen is always a moment by "accident", someone I never would have anticipated, at all. And I'm blown away. It has completely tarnished my ability to settle for adequate, but I think that's a good thing. Not that being blown away means perfection - it's just an insight into the depth and beauty that a relationship can be.

i completely agree with Lenescho ! it's about someone who can't seem to get over the hurt she felt in a previous relationship. They think that if they hide their heart from the other person, than they won't get hurt as much. this song is so heartbreaking, but true because we all do it sometimes.

Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.

Techno Ted
Audioslave
Techno Ted may be a person who caused Chris incredible emotional pain & trepidation as well as moments of peace & happiness but now is removed and awaiting his fate. Darling may be a different person who is also free of him and can live her life free of Ted's tyranny. "In between all the laughing, and daydreams ... lies: a desert of truth" Lies are like a desert or the omission of Truth: Where there were Lies then Truth was absent. The song, "Techno Ted", may be a cathartic celebration of the downfall of this person.

Fortnight
Taylor Swift
The song 'Fortnight' by Taylor Swift and Post Malone tells a story about strong feelings, complicated relationships, and secret wishes. It talks about love, betrayal, and wanting someone who doesn't feel the same. The word 'fortnight' shows short-lived happiness and guilty pleasures, leading to sadness. It shows how messy relationships can be and the results of hiding emotions. “I was supposed to be sent away / But they forgot to come and get me,” she kickstarts the song in the first verse with lines suggesting an admission to a hospital for people with mental illnesses. She goes in the verse admitting her lover is the reason why she is like this. In the chorus, she sings about their time in love and reflects on how he has now settled with someone else. “I took the miracle move-on drug, the effects were temporary / And I love you, it’s ruining my life,” on the second verse she details her struggles to forget about him and the negative effects of her failure. “Thought of callin’ ya, but you won’t pick up / ‘Nother fortnight lost in America,” Post Malone sings in the outro.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.
