I'm slowly turning into you
But you don't know this to be true
You say I'm lying and I never really tell you the truth
But your face is getting older
So put your head on my shoulder
Yeah, put your head on my shoulder

Yesterday it hit me that I do
All the little things that you do
Except the same little things that you do are annoying
They're annoying as hell, in fact
It kinda struck a little bell, in fact
I like to keep my little shell intact

And I'm slowly turning into you
And I'm slowly turning into you

Then something else came to mind
That was the mirror it made everything clearer
That you're more beautiful, compelling and stronger
It didn't take much longer
Just for me to realize I love all the little things
And the beauty that they're gonna bring
I dig your little laugh, and I'm lovin' your quick wit
I even love it when you're faking it
And it might sound a little strange for me to say to you
But I'm proud to be you

And I'm slowly turning into you
And I'm slowly turning into you
And I'm slowly turning into you
And I'm slowly turning into you

La-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la-la-la-la
La-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la-la-la-la
La-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la-la-la-la
La-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la-la-la-la
La-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la-la-la-la
La-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la-la-la-la

First of all, isn't it: "But you don't know this to be true You said I'm lying And I never really tell you the truth"

And I pretty much do this with everyone, always- and I always pick up people's habits because I like who the person is. It is annoying to feel like I'm not myself- but who makes me what I am? Everyone around me. I think is probably reflected in all those (awesome) voices.

I love this song, one of the best on the new album. I'm pretty sure ^ has something to do with it, but if the rest of the album is anything to judge from, this song probably has some sort of political twist to it.

I thank God for music like this!! It has such depth and gets my mind reeling. About the song's meaning ... It's hard to discern where you end and others begin. I like how the writer uses metacognition to analyze the parts that he has melded into his personality and thus, learns more about himself ("It kind of struck a little bell in fact/I like keep my little shell intact"). He also has gained a great appreciation for that person for being who she or he is ("It made everything clearer that you are more beautiful, compelling and stronger") What a beautifully composed song!

The beat, the organ, the solos, the multitude of voices saying "slowly turning into you", the la la la's at the end... amazing stuff, and lyrics a lot of people in a relationship can relate to.

There's so much clipping on this song, this whole album has such terrible mastering. Other than that this song rocks! THe video is going to be directed by Michael Gondry

does anyone notice that there is part of this song where it sounds a bit like nirvana's "where did you sleep last night?" song? or am i just hearing things?

When a girl I had been dating for awhile broke up with me, I was pretty annoyed because many of the things that reminded me of her were things I was doing myself.

I still have a lot of mannerisms I inadvertantly took from her along with numerous sayings and things. I'm pretty sure this is straight up relationship issues, association issues specifically. Of any of the songs that probably aren't political, this would be among the top three or so I'm sure aren't.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
