This battle is in the air
I'm looking upwards
Where are the angels?
I'm not in my home
St. Andrew, don't forsake me
St. Andrew
Don't forsake me
Who is here to greet me?
The children are kind
I'm not in my home
I travel backwards in ecstasy
Where are the angels?
Don't forget me
St. Andrew
I've been true
What do I need to say?
What do I need to say?

This has a great Scottish feel to it. I love Meg here, and this is my favorite track that she sings on yet. The lyrics are pretty weird, pretty cool. Amazing.

wow, stripes most trippy song wouldn't you say? 'i travel backwards in ecstacy' - good line, seems like someone's going nuts on a trip or something. For anyone who doesn't know, St Andrew is the patron saint of scotland (like st patrick to ireland) also the bagpipes so something scottish is definately going on.

It is very trippy - quite Beatles-ey. Definitely Scottish too.

this song is beautiful and sad. it makes me wanna cry...

it's about wanting St. Andrew to save you but slowly realizing you weren't true. you could probably interpret it as being left behind during the rapture. or being at the gates of hell and realizing it's not heaven.

"this battle is in the air (if she was in heaven it would be below.) i'm looking upwards where are the angels? (there are no angels to be found) i'm not in my home (she's not in heaven)

st. andrew don't forsake me (don't leave me on earth) st. andrew don't forsake me (don't leave me here)

who is here to greet me? (she's not at heaven's gates) the children are crying (children are being tortured... or know the apocalypse is coming) i'm not in my home i travel backwards in ecstacy (she looks frantically back in time to figure out where she went wrong) where are the angels? don't forget me

st. andrew i've been true (she tries to convince him that she's been true) what do i need to say? (she asks what she needs to say to be saved.) what do i need to say?" (there's nothing she can say.)

It's sort of a coda to "Prickly Thorn".

For some reason it reminded me of Sonic Youth.

Isn't 'i travel backwards in ecstasy' a reference to them revisiting their Scotia roots? Just a thought.

St.Andrew's Hall is also a historic music venue in Detroit (home of the White Stripes) Its a club that only seats 1000 people, but tons of big names in music have played there. Oddly enough, the White Stripes aren't one of them.
