Close your eyes and make believe this is where you want to be
Forgetting all the memories, try to forget love cause love's forgotten me
Well hey, hey baby, it's never too late pretty soon you won't remember a thing
And I'll be distant, the stars reminiscing
Your heart's been wasted on me

You've never been so used as I'm using you, abusing you
My little decoy
Don't look so blue, you should've seen right through
I'm using you, my little decoy
My little decoy

Live your life inside a dream
Time is changing everything
Forgetting all the memories
And I'm forced into you just cause you're into me
Well hey, hey baby, it's never too late
When I'm gone you won't remember a thing
But I can't stay and you know I won't wait
I was gone from the very first day

You've never been so used as I'm using you, abusing you
My little decoy
Don't look so blue, you should've seen right through
I'm using you, my little decoy

Oh, oh.
I'm not sorry at all
(not sorry at all, not sorry. no.)
I won't be sorry at all
(not sorry at all, not sorry. no.)
I'd do it over again

Don't look so blue, my little decoy
You should've seen right through, my little decoy
You've never been so used, my little decoy
And so I'm using you, my little decoy

I think its about a girl who is with someone she really doesnt care for and she cant have the person she really loves so shes using this other guy as a "Decoy" to fill the void while time passes but he doesnt mean anything to her hes just there

actually Hayley talked about this song in a live journal reply to a comment someone left in her post "what are you ashamed of?" and basically Hayley had replied to the girl "i cant say ive ever loved someone and longed for another.but I have loved someone and used another.i actually wrote a song about it and I hope it makes the record."

so personally Im guessing Decoy is that song.and it makes perfect sense. she pretended to like someone just so she could get to another.it was fake.a decoy.i think that basically sums it up in a nutshell.

It's a bonus track on the version sold at Hot Topic.

I don't know. When I first heard this song, I was thinking that she's reiterating what someone said to her. As if in a mocking sense, or just a hurting sense. I partially agree with scene, though. It's kind of like Misery Business in a sense. The same 'I-Don't-Give-A-Damn-About-You' thing.

Yeah. I think she's looking at it from a guys perspective, of how he was using her. And she's basically letting her anger rip.

these lyrics are malicious. too malicious for her. the person in this song is reckless, & very selfish. & that fact has led me to this theory; i feel as if she is singing this song, from the point of view of another. someone who seriously fucked her over, & continues to do this to others as a pattern & she recognized it. i don't know, i just feel that compared to her views on love & pain in other songs, that she'd never seriously agree with this & act on the things she's describing. i can relate, i like to write, & i got hurt by someone who is very, very unsettled. so i wrote it out, from his point of view, to try & better understand it. of course, however, artists like to portray someone else every now & then so i could be wrong.

    it was just a thought!

Warren wanted a Beach Boys thing for this one, and Carl Wilson and Billy Hinsche came in, with Carl arranging the vocal parts. The other harmony vocalists (credited as the "Gentlemen Boys") were Jackson Browne, J.D. Souther, Zevon's longtime backers Waddy Wachtel and Jorge Calderon, and Linda Rondstadt/Stone Poneys guitarist Kenny Edwards.

Techno Ted may be a person who caused Chris incredible emotional pain & trepidation as well as moments of peace & happiness but now is removed and awaiting his fate. Darling may be a different person who is also free of him and can live her life free of Ted's tyranny. "In between all the laughing, and daydreams ... lies: a desert of truth" Lies are like a desert or the omission of Truth: Where there were Lies then Truth was absent. The song, "Techno Ted", may be a cathartic celebration of the downfall of this person.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
