I Wonder Lyrics
And I wonder if you know what it means, what it means
And I wonder if you know what it means, what it means
And I wonder if you know what it means, what it means to find your dreams
And I wonder
These dreams be waking me up at night
You say I think I'm never wrong
You know what?
Maybe you're right
Aight?
what it means
And I wonder if you know what it means to find your dreams
And I wonder
You hope that he get what he deserves
Word?
Do you even remember what the issue is?
You just trying to find where the tissue is
You can still be who you wish you is
It ain't happened yet, and that's what intuition is
Drive back to the crib
Run back to they arms
The smokescreens the chokes and the screams
You ever wonder what it all really means?
And I wonder if you know what it means to find your dreams
And I wonder
A psychic in my lifeline
Told me in my lifetime
My name would help light up the Chicago skyline
And that's why I'm
7 o'clock that's prime time
Heaven will watch God calling from the hotlines
Why he keep giving me hot lines?
I'm a star, how could I not shine?
How many ladies in the house without a spouse?
Something in your blouse got me feeling so aroused!
What you about?
On that independent shit
Trade it all for a husband and some kids
You ever wonder what it all really means?
You wonder if you'll ever find your dreams?

i think nanite10 is right in the song's focus on women, but i saw it with a different perspective. I think when Kanye writes
"You say he get on your fucking nerves You hope that he get what he deserves Word? Do you even remember what the issue is? You just trying to find where the tissue is You can still be who you wish you is It ain't happened yet, and that's what intuition is"
he is explaining a woman blaming her problems on a man, but Kanye may be saying that since she hasn’t followed her dreams (you can still be who you wish you is/it ain’t happened yet…) she has an intuitive dissatisfaction for her life caused by her self. And when Kanye raps about her going back home to her family, the family life is the smokescreen that hides what she really needs - independence, a sense of self, and pursuit of her own dreams. I think this is more evident in the final verse. When he says “how many ladies in the house without a spouse?/Something in your blouse has got me feeling so aroused” he is possibly referring to their hearts, and how not being married they have retained independence and can follow their dreams. He asks the women who have traded in their independence for “a husband and some kids” if they ever wonder what the meaning of their lives are and if they will ever find their dreams.
I don’t think it’s such a slamming on the fakeness of girls as more a slamming on society and a wake up call to women. For so long our society has pushed for the idea that a woman’s dream should be to get married and have a family, so a lot of women don’t even realize they can have their own dreams that they should follow. I don’t think it is accurate to generalize women as selfish and self-absorbed. If they were, they would understand the need to do things for themselves. They wouldn’t give away their lives to men. I think the need for a boyfriend/husband stems from a lack of self-confidence and a yielding to what they think society says they should be.

Very, ksuds! It's so smooth, even though he purposefully chops up his lyrics in the beginning. Surely takes a lot of talent to manage that.
It's hard for me to find concrete meaning, but I think he's trying to express the need for people to do what they enjoy doing; to nourish their talents. Don't worry about how others bother you.
There's a lot more, but I'm not sure what it all means. Please help me out, everyone =P

i think its more how people dont know what they really want, or never act on fulfilling their dreams and let life pass them by.
great song.

Song is one of the best on the album.. Really motivating lyrics... Like to listen to it in the morning before I go to work.. Lyrics and track give you a confident posture...

yeah, the meaning is definitely about following your dreams. like when people are younger-children- they have all these dreams and they find their creative passions. although, as they get older they constantly have people around them telling them "no" and doubting them. using the word "impossible", "it'll never happen" , ect. and the kid grows up, having never followed his or her dreams. people let the "haters" bring them down. but kanye didn't he had an amazing support system. rip donda west.

I think this song is a slam on the fakeness and bullshit of people, especially girls. Kanye sings about all the inspiration he has and how much motivation there is for him to be famous and follow his dreams to become somebody.
Meanwhile, he outright slams how girls act today; independent, successful, all that ultra-feminism bullshit ... it's just a smokescreen for how they really just want attention and sympathy because they're so completely self-absorbed/selfish. (it's all about me) They have no dreams other than the drama they make in their lives because they need for a boyfriend/husband to be complete. It's sad really, because people are out there doing what they want and have meaningful direction where they DO something with their life, like Ye.
Don't string other people along in your personal BS. Find you dreams and do them.
