Future Reflections Lyrics

And there were future reflections
On the face and the hands
On a green colored island
On a primitive man
It was the future reflecting
It felt familiar but new
A street was missing a building
The kids had something to do

There was a feeling the spirit was leaving
Red like a marker
So my tribe, with my knife
Cut the heart from a lonely life

I saw patterns on floorboards
Deep in the dust was a leader
Someone was walking on floorboards
Turned them from oak into cedar
He can assess the situation
I wrapped a string around my finger
Into the forest with the young ones
I don't expect to be a winner

But as long as you feel it
I'm a believer
My heart is phosphor
Sea rolls and death tolls
Break the surface don't break my bones

Off of the trail and off of your hands and
Onto a new plan
Is the cost to stay lost
Forever in an empty skin
Pale and thin

If it's good, or if it's fortune, I can't tell
But pieces come together for some reason just as well
Their guns couldn't see us
There's a sea outside my door
And one day I'll appreciate
The rush of blood and the washed out beat of the shore

And remember what it felt like
To be alone
Sitting in the sunlight
All alone

it's about a post-apocalyptic world in which the sole remaining inhabitants are a group of kids who hang out on an island and surf all day, according to the band.

all of mgmt is so obviously a "turn on tune in drop out" message.

tune in to yourself and tune out of all of the illusions being sold to you. because the only thing incontrovertable is that you are.

the best albums are the ones where the last song feel like the last song the band will ever make. like a true conclusion to a story that they were trying to tell. some artists albums really don't do that anymore.

future reflections sounds like a ending to a beautiful yet sinister story.

It sounds very influenced by Arcade Fire, which is not by any means an insult.

Quite possibly my favorite MGMT song so far, it's just amazing. The outro is just something else. As for the meaning I agree with weekendwarriorrr.

I absolutely love the last minute and a bit of this song and can listen to it over and over. The lyrics don't really have to have a strict meaning for me here, they are just amazing!

This is one of the most mind bendingly beautiful songs I've ever heard. I'm a musician and to be honest...I haven't been truly impressed with a band in a long time. Actually...forget impressed...MGMT absolutely blows me away. I have absolutely no reservations in saying that they are true musical geniuses. The fact that they wrote this album at such a young age (early 20s) is even more baffling.

The very end of Future Reflections is the high point of the album for me. It's so genuine and real and truly accomplishes what music was meant to accomplish. It makes you feel. MGMT is a testament to how incredibly and immeasurably powerful music can be. It transcends all other forms of communication.

Hell yeah, spot on.

This song is so trippy. There should be much more comments I agree! SITTING IN THE SUNLIGHT! They escaped somewhere and are using primiative resources to survive.
