I Need You To Turn To Lyrics
You are nailed to my love in many lonely nights
I've strayed from the cottages and found myself here
For I need your love your love protects my fears
And I wonder sometimes
and I know I'm unkind
But I need you to turn to
when I act so blind
And I need you to turn to
when I lose control
You're my guardian angel
who keeps out the cold
That my reason for living was for loving you
We're related in feeling but you're high above
You're pure and you're gentle with the grace of a dove
And I wonder sometimes
and I know I'm unkind
But I need you to turn to
when I act so blind
And I need you to turn to
when I lose control
You're my guardian angel
who keeps out the cold.

That song is about a deep great love.
But that love is not really counterbalanced ("We're related in feeling but you're high above"), that means, that the person who sings the song is more in love with her/his parner than he/she is with her/him.
And the refrain is narrating about the love but also about the dependancy from that person on the loving partner.

"Deep great love" absolutely. For me, the song is more about placing the author's loved one on a pedestal and apologizing for his/her own imperfections, with a touch of declaring his/her own inadequacy within the relationship. The author relies upon his/her partner to guide him/her through life and believes that he/she is nothing without the loved one.
I prefer the "Live in Australia" version, as the emotion seems to present clearer.

I love the Live in Australia version. On one hand I see it as a dependent relationship with the writer being needy and at times abusing the “love”. But on the other hand, I gravitate to the “guardian angel” line and think of a deceased person in my life who’s memory helps me when I’m down, feel out of control and I need her to turn to for comfort. Just fits for me! I love this song and Elton’s arrangement/voice. Thanks much!!
