So this has been.my favorite song of OTEP's since it came out in 2004, and I always thought it was a song about a child's narrative of suffering in an abusive Christian home. But now that I am revisiting the lyrics, I am seeing something totally new.
This song could be gospel of John but from the perspective of Jesus.
Jesus was NOT having a good time up to and during the crucifixion. Everyone in the known world at the time looked to him with fear, admiration or disgust and he was constantly being asked questions. He spoke in "verses, prophesies and curses". He had made an enemy of the state, and believed the world was increasingly wicked and fallen from grace, or that he was in the "mouth of madness".
The spine of atlas is the structure that allows the titan to hold the world up. Jesus challenged the state and in doing so became a celebrated resistance figure. It also made him public enemy #1.
All of this happened simply because he was doing his thing, not because of any agenda he had or strategy.
And then he gets scourged (storm of thorns)
There are some plot holes here but I think it's an interesting interpretation.
Oh, shit (oh, shit, oh, shit)
Oh, shit (oh, shit, oh, shit)
Oh, shit (oh, shit, oh, shit)
Are you ready for this?
Oh, shit, oh, shit, oh, shit
Oh
It's me
Fergie
The Pen!
Polow
(Fergie, Ferg, what's up baby?)
When I come to the club, step aside (oh shit)
Part the seas, don't be having me in the line (oh shit)
VIP, 'cause you know I gotta shine (oh shit)
I'm Fergie Ferg, and me love you long time (oh shit)
All my girls get down on the floor (oh shit)
Back to back, drop it down real low (oh shit)
I'm such a lady, but I'm dancing like a hoe (oh shit)
'Cause you know I don't give a fuck, so here we go (oh shit)
How come every time you come around
My London, London Bridge wanna go down, like
London, London, London
Wanna go down like
London, London, London
Be going down like
How come every time you come around
My London, London Bridge wanna go down, like
London, London, London
Wanna go down like
London, London, London
Be going down like
Drinks start pouring
And my speech start slurring
Everybody start looking real good
That Grey Goose got your girl feeling loose
Now I'm wishing that I didn't wear these shoes (I hate heels)
It's like every time I get up on the dude
Paparazzi put my business in the news
And I'm like, get up out my face
Before I turn around and spray your ass with mace
My lips make you wanna have a taste
You got that, I got the bass
How come every time you come around
My London, London Bridge wanna go down, like
London, London, London
Wanna go down like
London, London, London
Be going down like
How come every time you come around
My London, London Bridge wanna go down, like
London, London, London
Wanna go down like
London, London, London
Be going down like
Aah, da, da, da, da, do, do, do, do
Me like a bullet type, you know they coming right
Fergie like 'em long time, my girls support 'em, right?
Aah, da, da, da, da, do, do, do, do
Me like a bullet type, you know they coming right
Fergie like 'em long time, my girls support 'em, right?

Love in a Vacuum
'Til Tuesday
'Til Tuesday
Well, in my opinion this song is about being a young & maybe a little naive &/or introverted girl and finding yourself loving a man who is at first very charming, carefree & outgoing, and seems at first to be without limits, as in
"There was a time
you opened up every doorway
you didn't mind if everything
wasn't your way"
then that man starts to gradually become more introverted & shows their more possessive/obsessive side to you as the relationship progresses, even while they keep up the appearance of being carefree & outgoing to everyone else,
"Don't pull away
that goes against what you told me
I look in your eyes
I realize what you've sold me
is love in a vacuum"
so you confront them about the way they're acting and of course they deny it,
"I think you've changed
but you insist that
that's not true"
quite possibly they are an addict of some sort, my guess would be cocaine, &/or showing very obsessive behavior towards you (early on in the video for this song we see the man hanging a picture up, it is a very large portrait of Aimee & it is prominently displayed in his/their apartment for the duration of the song), thus their "love in a vacuum",
"You look so strange, so distant
that you're hardly you
Now I can see
how you have been acting different
You say it's me
but I know
that it isn't
it's love in a vacuum"
but still you are in love with them and don't want to leave them and you know that they are truly in love with you and they don't want you to leave them either, maybe they are convinced you can save them from themself, maybe they are so broken that the possibility of an overdose &/or suicide attempt is very real and you want to get through to them that their behavior not only dangerous but it is also just pissing you off and if they don't wise up they run the risk of loosing you, as in the lines
"You will be lonely
if you leave me alone", so you want to save them but can't get through to them due to the addiction &/or emotional problems they have,
"Love in a vacuum
and that's not enough
love in a vacuum
You will be lonely
you'll be the only one who feels this way
You will be lonely
if you leave me alone
You will be lonely
you'll be the only one who feels this way
it's just not enough"
you want them to understand that the love they are giving you is not enough when it is filtered through the vacuum of their drug addiction &/or emotional impairment,
"You will be lonely
you'll be the only one who feels this way
it's just not enough
and just wait
you will be lonely
Love in a vacuum
Love in a vacuum
and that's not enough
Love in a vacuum".
'Love In A Vacuum' for me is a hauntingly truthful acute argument on the loneliness of obsession and almost inevitable loss of love that follows people who are broken in some way or another; the obsessives, the coke heads, the drunks, addicts or the just-plain-old emotionally broken; a razor sharp, lyrically driven, deceptively poppy, yet ultimately-depressing-in-the-best-way song.

Warren wanted a Beach Boys thing for this one, and Carl Wilson and Billy Hinsche came in, with Carl arranging the vocal parts. The other harmony vocalists (credited as the "Gentlemen Boys") were Jackson Browne, J.D. Souther, Zevon's longtime backers Waddy Wachtel and Jorge Calderon, and Linda Rondstadt/Stone Poneys guitarist Kenny Edwards.

Fortnight
Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift
The song 'Fortnight' by Taylor Swift and Post Malone tells a story about strong feelings, complicated relationships, and secret wishes. It talks about love, betrayal, and wanting someone who doesn't feel the same. The word 'fortnight' shows short-lived happiness and guilty pleasures, leading to sadness. It shows how messy relationships can be and the results of hiding emotions. “I was supposed to be sent away / But they forgot to come and get me,” she kickstarts the song in the first verse with lines suggesting an admission to a hospital for people with mental illnesses. She goes in the verse admitting her lover is the reason why she is like this. In the chorus, she sings about their time in love and reflects on how he has now settled with someone else. “I took the miracle move-on drug, the effects were temporary / And I love you, it’s ruining my life,” on the second verse she details her struggles to forget about him and the negative effects of her failure. “Thought of callin’ ya, but you won’t pick up / ‘Nother fortnight lost in America,” Post Malone sings in the outro.
The beat is catchy and you can't help but nod your head.
That being said, the lyrics are asanine and sound like someone wrote them five minutes before they recorded the song. I highly doubt Fergie wrote either the beat or the lyrics so you can't credit her for the beat or diss her for the lyrics.
As far as the premise of the song? Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's about Fergie wanting to fuck whatever guy she's talking about.
Another hip-hop pop song that will be on Top 40 radio for about 2-3 weeks then dissapear forever.
The first verse is obviously about using her fame to get benefits those who are not as well-off or good-looking can have, and exploiting it to teenage girls to make records. Then of course the "me love you long time" is a beautiful reference to the vietnam war in which we blew up the villages of many innocent families, and many of the girls were left to whore themselves out for money, and since their english was so bad, they said it like that.
Second verse is about dancing around and acting like a whore, but not admitting to it. However, she uses the shorter term "ho" for whore. This is incorrect. Hos get paid, she means sluts. They give it up for free.
The third verse is about getting really drunk and feeling kinda slutty, then wandering about without her shoes on. Fourth, she gets upset because the papparazzi is trying to take a picture of her while she's puking her brains out. I'm assuming this is the source of "the bass" which she claims to have.
Well, since at no time was London Bridge a drawbridge, I grew confused at first. Then I realized that somewhere in the meth-bender Fergie had in the late 90's she studied the history of London quite feverishly, being that she couldn't sleep. She knew that it was the only bridge across the River Thames, and as such, the only way into London. On occasion, the bridge was destroyed to prevent enemy troops from crossing into their city. In a brilliant metaphor, she is likening this to her situation with the paparazzi, with whom she wishes to "burn her bridges". However, I'm still not clear on if she meant from the the Normans or the Danes. Clearly she includes her dancing friends to protect them from the paparazzi/ danish/ gaul invasion. What an amazing songwriter!!!
Not the actual London Bridge, but London's Tower Bridge. There are shots of it in the music video. In this case, her legs are the towers and the bridge in the down position looks like panties.
There is a good chance there are errors in these lyrics. I transcribed to the best of my ability, but missed out on some of the shouted stuff in the background and some of the softer stuff she says between choruses. If there are any changes, just leave a comment here and I'll be sure to edit as they're receieved.
This song is great. It's the next hollaback girl for sure. Yeah, I think there are some errors in this song. After she says ahh la da da da, she says some jibberish between that that I didn't really catch.
This song is WAY too catchy. Other than that there isn't anything good about it.
"she says some jibberish between that that I didn't really catch."
Yeah that was my problem :[ I didn't understand it
I love this song! And I agree with loop-to-loop. It is going to be the the hollaback girl. The chorus is awesommme! :]
your wrong. I think fergie did write this song if you read the lyrics closely. It's her style. I dont think someone could have wrote this for her. She's been in the music biz for quite a while and she's 31.
I disagree, anyone who sings hip-hop or pop CAN'T actually sing, and btw they really don't write their own songs. That's just rubbish.
^ Actually she sings quite well, I heard her sing the national anthem at the Daytona 500.
I love this song, it is so catchy!
