Out of the ruins
Out from the wreckage
Can't make the same mistake this time

We are the children
The last generation (the last generation)
We are the ones they left behind

And I wonder when we are ever gonna change, change
Living under the fear 'til nothing else remains

We don't need another hero
We don't need to know the way home
All we want is life beyond the Thunderdome

Looking for something
We can rely on
There's got to be something better out there

Mm, love and compassion
Their day is coming (coming)
All else are castles built in the air

And I wonder when we are ever gonna change, change
Living under the fear 'til nothing else remains

All the children say

We don't need another hero
We don't need to know the way home
All we want is life beyond the Thunderdome

So what do we do with our lives?
We leave only a mark
Will our story shine like a light
Or end in the dark?
Is it all or nothing?

We don't need another hero (hero)
We don't need to know the way home
All we want is life beyond Thunderdome

All the children say

We don't need another hero (we don't need another hero)
We don't need to know the way home
All we want is life beyond the Thunderdome

Surprised there arent more comments here, as i suppose most folks are ewwhenevr they happen upon a song near and dear to them. I always feel such pangs of nostaligia and hopefulness whenever i hear this song. It reminds me of a time when me capacity for frelling things deeply (like hope) was so much wider. No that I'm an "adult" and everything must be taken in stride in order to function i realize that there is a price to pay. that equanimity is a double edged sword. But this song along with a few others somehow tap into my the reserve behind my "reserve". Ill listen to this song at lunch today and walk around hopeful/purposeful for a bit.

    My Interpretation

This brilliantly performed, wonderful song of 1985, attached with 'Mad Max' theme of aftermath of Nuclear war, has a great significance with Nuclear Era, when Cold war was just ending and hope of significant Nuclear disarmament was in the air. World wanted OUT with potential nuclear destruction scenario within superpowers dominated 'Thunderdome' of the globe, and the awesome appeal and hope of such significance is strong within the phrase "So what do we do with our lives We leave only a mark Will our story shine like a light Or end in the dark Give it all or nothing" A great song of our time, so well performed with emotional content by a great Diva.

A great song that refers to a very entertaining movie.

The verse that starts with "So what do we do with our lives?" is probably my favorite.

An anti-Messiah song, just in the fashion of 'Imagine' and many others, trying to deceive us about the following "world of peace and hope" the New World Order will bring.

This song is so metaphysically about Tina's abuse while being with Ike Turner

Tina Turner didn’t write this, it has nothing to do with her or Ike, it’s simply an anthem from Mad Max about the aftermath of destruction
