I'll tell you what you wanna know,
But boy you better listen close.
People gonna tell you lies,
Don't let it come as a surprise.

That woman's on my back again,
I know she's got the best intentions.
When you begin to realize,
You know you got your daddy's eyes.

And there's something that I want to say,
I love her, too.
And all of this has got nothing to do with you.

And I'd like to stay but I can't because
I've been fooling around and I know
That you called because you never even knew
That it was hurting me.

When you put it on the other hand,

When you're old enough to understand.
That glove will bring it all to life,
I didn't say that made it right.

Because that woman's on my back again,
I know she's got the best intentions.
When you begin to realize,
You know you got your daddy's eyes.

And there's something that I want to say,
I love her, too.
And all of this has got nothing to do with you.

And I'd like to stay but I can't because
I've been fooling around and I know
That you called because you never even knew
That it was hurting me.

And I'd like to stay but I can't because
I've been fooling around and I know
That you called because you never even knew
That it was hurting me.

And sometimes people get tired,
And I woke up a little too late to lie.

Dreams should last a long time,
This is not what I'd call goodbye.

And I'd like to stay but I can't because
I've been fooling around and I know
That you called because you never even knew
That it was hurting me.

And I'd love to stay but I can't because
I've been fooling around and I know
That you called because you never even knew
That it was hurting me, me.

I love her, too.

Most of the song's lyrics are wrong on here...but this part is really bothering me. The correct lyrics to this part are....

Sometimes people get tired And I woke up a little to late to lie Dreams should last a long time This is not what I'd call goodbye

    My Interpretation

People seemed confused over this line:

'When you put it on the other hand When you're old enough to understand That glove will bring it all to light I didn't say that made it right.'

What I take it to mean is the saying 'The glove's on the other hand', meaning seeing a situation from a different perspective. So what it's saying is that when the child is old enough to know about these feelings they'll understand better why their father cheated on his wife, but it still doesn't make it right.

i think the song is about a father who has cheatead on his wife, and he explains the situation to his son, and kind apologizes too.

great song, and i kind of think that even brandon says that he makes up lots of songs, i think made up things HAVE ALWAAAYS a bit of true, or at least that's what i hope, because i really hate his wife tana! LOL

i think its talkin about an ilegitimate child he has, who has just realized he's got "his daddy's eyes" and wants to know why he (brandon) left. brandon explains he loves his mom but he fools around too much and there's no way back but still it hurts. "when u put it un the other hand, when ur old to understand" --> the kid may not get it now but he will someday and he will forgive his dad, even if it was wrong.

i dont get the part of "that woman's on my back again", still i love this song, it makes me feel a bit sad

its about a man that has screwed up a lot in his life but still loves his kid...

    this shit really happens...

i woke up a lil to late to life --> i realized i messed up but its too late

love the killers, they're genius the guitar solo is good!

This song, in my opinion is a father talking to his son about how hes leaving to be with another woman, how its not the boys fault that this is happening, that he still loves the boys mother, and that if the the son is anything like the father, he'll understand why he can't stay when he gets older...

This is really wieird because I'm going through the same thing and my dad said basicl;y the same thing...

Definitely about a divorce. The lines that confuse most people, the bit about "that woman's on my back again," sound like she's forcing a divorce. It's obvious that the father cheated and he's trying to explain it to his son, but I think the father sincerely regrets what he did. He understands, though, why his wife's upset, but he still loves her and wishes he could fix it. He hopes his son will understand someday what happened, and not hate his father for his mistake.

    Great song.

I think what the father is trying to get across to his son is that there are bigger problems with the relationship between him and the child's mother then just the child. Trying to explain it, he goes off on tangents where he seems to be talking to the woman.

Hes found ways to deal with the issues of the relationship, but in an unhealthy manor. Maybe they just needed some time apart, but were still together, but then it all changed for him and he couldn't stand it and started fooling around. It's not about guilt though, he had some problems and just delt with them by himself. The strongest line, "And I know that you called because you never even knew that it was hurting me" she never knew or maybe never cared how much the separation was hurting him, since he had to deal with it by himself, he would love to stay, thats what he wanted all along, but he cant because... He wants her to help him with his issues, to have her understand, but he knows if he tries to "stay" maybe the night, maybe in the relationship, he would end up bringing up the problems he was having and she would have had enough of him. "Sometimes people get tired and i woke up a little to late to lie" He could have delt with this the same as he always has, lie about it, cover it up, pretend like he is okay but this time it got too far and he started to show.

"When the glove is on the other hand" could be because the child is living with his mother so he only really sees her side of the story, making the father look like a deadbeat. you can't compleatly understand someone else s problems unless you have lived though them, especially if they never talk about it.

"Ill tell you what you want to know but boy you better listen close" The kid is the one who brought it up, he asked why he couldn't stay. This brings up all his problems and he says all the things hes been wanting to say to the woman that caused all of the problems.

I have a tendency to see what i want to see in songs, i adapt them into my own life, but this one seems to work pretty well. anything to add?

It DOES say "That you CALLED because you never even knew that it was hurting me." even though it doesn't make sence it's very clear thet he says that.

But I think that this song is about a father who's leaving or divorcing the boy's/his sons mother cause he's been fooling around(cheating on her). But the father still loves her and he says "and all of this has got nothing to do with you". cause his son needs to know that he's not leaving beacause of him(the son), that it's not his fault at all.

I'm going to right my first impressions without reading anyone else's meaning first. I see it as a man who has possibly had an affair with a woman, and he is addressing the child that was born of it.

"That woman's on my back again. I know she's got the best intention"

that's either the mother of the child or his other lover who is pressuring him to stick to someone or possibly to support the child

"When you began to relize You know, got your daddy's eyes." talking about how the child may eventually realise he takes after his father, the persona of the song

"And there's something I wanna say: I love her too. And all of this has got nothing to do with you. And I'd like to stay but I can't because I've been fooling around"

he loves the mother of the child, but he needs to take responsibility for his actions now and he can't support this child or the woman, and its not to do with the child, its to do with the persona and how hes acted. he wishes he could be with them but he can't

"And I know that you called because you never even knew that it was hurting me" this sounds like the child has made contact with the persona and he doesn't realise how much the persona's been feeling guilty about not being there for this child, the child doesn't understand the implications at the moment

"Sometimes PEOPLE GET TIRED" [i believe is the correct lyrics] And I woke up a little too late to lie"

he can't pretend this hasn't happened anymore, and he can't lie to the child and pretend it's all alright he's weary of living a lie.

    i hope this helps :)

i think it's about his girlfriend's dad and him having a bad relationship and disliking each other cause the dad doesnt want her to be hurt. "And there's something i wanted to say, i love her too. But this has got nothing to do with you'. but then the girl starts reminding him of the father 'you know you got your daddy's eyes' and he's losing her. great song (:

Techno Ted may be a person who caused Chris incredible emotional pain & trepidation as well as moments of peace & happiness but now is removed and awaiting his fate. Darling may be a different person who is also free of him and can live her life free of Ted's tyranny. "In between all the laughing, and daydreams ... lies: a desert of truth" Lies are like a desert or the omission of Truth: Where there were Lies then Truth was absent. The song, "Techno Ted", may be a cathartic celebration of the downfall of this person.

In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
