You used to talk to me like
I was the only one around
You used to lean on me
The only other choice was falling down
You used to walk with me like
We had nowhere we needed to go
Nice and slow
To no place in particular

We used to have this figured out
We used to breathe without a doubt
When nights were clear, you were the first star that I'd see
We used to have this under control
We never thought we used to know
At least there's you
And at least there's me
Can we get this back
Can we get this back
To how it used to be?

I used to reach for you when
I got lost along the way
I used to listen
You always had the just right thing to say
I used to follow you
Never really cared where we would go
Fast or slow
To anywhere at all

We used to have this figured out
We used to breathe without a doubt
The nights were clear for the first time that I'd see
We used to have this under control
We never thought we used to know
At least there's you
And at least there's me
Can we get this back
Can we get this back
To how it used to be?

I look around me
And I want you to be there
'Cause I miss the things that we shared
Look around you
It's empty, and you're sad
'Cause you miss the love that we had

You used to talk to me like
I was the only one around
The only one around

We used to have this figured out
We used to breathe without a doubt
The nights were clear for the first time that I'd see
We used to have this under control
We never thought we used to know
At least there's you
And at least there's me
Can we get this back
Can we get this back
To how it used to be? Yeah
To how it used to be

To how it used to be, yeah
To how it used to be
To how it used to be

i honestly can not figure out why anyone hasnt commented on this song. it really hits home to me. my girlfriend of 2 1/2 years and i just broke up and it was because of problems brought about by her changing. i didnt like it and all that. i wish it never wouldve happened. and i told her, i want it how it used to be. this song is just about that. a relationship gone sour and the boyfriend wants that fire back. it hits home hard.

It's never fun to admit how stale a relationship can get through time. You start missing how new and exciting things were at the beginning, and wonder when things became routine and less passion filled with the passing of time. This song is about being nostalgic about the good times, and hoping that somehow it can go "back to how it use to be."

I think it means, there was a great relationship, and something went bad, and one person treats the other person differently than before the bad happened. and the other person is wishing things could be back to how they were.

This song reminds me of the close relationship i had with my friend, "you used to talk to me like i was the only one around", which was exactly how it was like. over the years we drifted apart, and i really miss the days when we were best friends, and drifting away from this friend could just be my greatest regret in life. and i always ask myself "can we get this back? to how it used to be". i really miss this friend of mine! i love this song!

You guys/girls are lucky. You at least got the girl for a while. This song reminds me of a friend, and that's all the relationship got to. She just stopped talking to me like she sed to after she decided to say "no, we're to good of friends." I wish I did't ask her out, then it would be like it was before where we could actually talk and I don't get angry.

You people are really lucky. All I got to was a great friend with this girl. I love her and I'm pretty sure she either loved me back or just liked me A LOT, but she had a boyfriend. That was the only thing keeping us from being together. I was so happy talking to her. Happier than ever. I wanted so bad to be with her, but she loved her boyfriend and has been with him for almost 2 years so there wasn't much I could do. We don't talk anymore and she still seems unhappy with him, but I miss her so much and I want that happiness back that I had with her all that time. I want it to go back to how it used to be, even if it all ends up the same way it would be worth it to know how much she cared about me all over again.

He reuses the verse melody from the previous album's "Dirty Little Religion", the topics of the verses are all over the place, and he packs too many words into one line (goes to show...) and too few in another (it's pretty hard to find), and rhymes "Henley Regatta" with "Persona non grata", but gets away with it all as only he could.

Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
