The sickness of this world is destroying all the dreams
The fools are kings, tearing apart the soul
The race for complication, communicate reaction
The lack of heart of men, I grow distant from the core

Borrow this body for a lifetime, earthly material
My soul unraveled out of mental
The shell returns to dust

I focus on the present, concentrate on what I find
Accelerate the vision high beyond the curse of time
Bring light to my attention, the walls of vacuum fall
This force increases and tells me where to go

Follow, I enter my dimension, awakened heart for life
Enforce my senses understanding
I find the will to live straight

I feel the change, I see the vicious circle
Finally turned into a virtuous one
Having the whole world in my hands filled
Timelessness

Out of the frame I feel so vast I'm all around myself
Imaginative interaction
But I keep struggling inside to hold this always
Forever there

Is it the fear to fall in space that keeps us from understanding?
The only way to find the power is to look inside
Increase your fall on purpose and let this river flow
Now you hold this secret, appeared out of the vacuum of space

Remain in what you are, the center of your life
You made it to this point, no one can tell you how
You crawled and bled all the way but you were the only one
That was tearing your soul apart, you finally find yourself

    My Interpretation

i think this song is about mans self destructing ways and how you and only you can really bring yourself out of your own misery, about how ones existence is only temporarily and how if you could only stop and look deep inside yourself maybe you can find many of the answers to your problems and live a fulfilling life.

"Is it the fear to fall in space that keeps us from understanding The only way to find the power is to look inside Increase your fall on purpose and let this river flow Now you hold this secret appeared out of the vacuum of space"

i think this means that sometimes when your in a negative stage in life you must dig deep into your thoughts or your past even if its difficult and painful, to increase your own downfall in order to hit a state of mind where ones true self might be there holding the answers you've been searching for all this time, saving you from yourself.

"Remain in what you are, the center of your life You made it to this point no one can tell you how You crawled and bled all the way but you were the only one That was tearing your soul apart, you finally find yourself"

i think this line is most forward, pretty much saying how even though the things around you might play a role in your negative ways the only one who really created your misery was yourself, and how once you take that deep self exploration journey you will finally have a true understanding of yourself that will lead to a more peaceful and positive state of mind.

in a more personal level, this song has helped me more than i could have ever imagined! though its sometimes hard to believe that something as simple as closing your eyes, blocking yourself from everything for just a moment and looking deep inside ones self might have some sort of positive outcome, you might want to try it sometime to understand what this song was written, but thats just my take on it, i would love to see more posts here and read other peoples take on this song, hails to gojira for making music that is both rich in meaning and musically genius!

    My Interpretation

    Amazing song.

Seems to be a song about realizing how fragile life is and how the obvious answers to life are overlooked because of fear.

This could be dug into much deeper but I'll keep it simple in saying it's most definitely about someone becoming dissatisfied with the world and turning to Buddhism for answers and comfort.

He must reach a very advanced level of meditation, I wont go as far as to say enlightenment, but he is discovering that a way out of this perpetual life/misery cycle exists and he's found it, however there is tremendous fear he finds upon stepping outside his body.

He might realize at the end that the suffereing he thought was inflicted on him from the outside world was actually his own doing all along, and perhaps now he can enter back into his body having experienced a minor awakening to how he ought to navigate through the world and carry himself.

Love the riffs throughout this song ... gets the heading going no matter where I am (even at work and amid looks I get).

Noticed no one has really touched on the title of the song "Vacuity" which is defined as "lack of thought/intelligence; or empty headed". Although Jorge gave a good review of the song I feel the title also plays a part in the interpretation of the song in that we can "think" we know "everyone", but in reality we really don't, and we especially lack the intelligence (in Gojira's opinion anyway) about what happiness really is. My two cents anyway ... Love the song and the music!!

    I think its about opiate (heroin) addiction. I am a (allegedly) current heroin addict, 9 years in the downward spiral, and I cannot put any other meaning to the parts;

"Follow, I enter my dimensions, awakened heart of life Enforce my senses, I'm understanding I find the will to live straight

I feel the change I see the vicious circle Finally turned into a virtuous one"

He is talking about finally being clean from the vicious cycle of being empty-minded and empty of heart while using heroin.

"Remain in what you are, the center of your life You made it to this point no one can tell you how You crawled and bled all the way but you were the only one That was tearing your soul apart, you finally find yourself"

A lot of the rest, including the above verse, can be generally applied to any type of life struggles against ANYTHING we don't have any control over, which is pretty much everything.

Suprised no one else thought of this lyrical meaning, what do ya all think?

PS I am going to see Gojira and Mastodon on 4/28 in Seattle WA I am so bloody excited dude

This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
