I'm keeping you in mind
For the rest of years, for the rest of years

In your watery eyes I'm gonna rest all day
In your watery eyes I'm gonna rest all day
In your watery eyes I'm gonna rest some day
In your watery eyes

Tell the saint I'm gonna be a little late
Drawing lines around the river for the rest of years
All in time, but you fade away from
All in time, but you fade away from me

They can't see what I can see
Turned away from me
I can turn everything around
I can turn everything around

They can't see what I can see
Turned away from me
I can turn everything around
I can turn everything around

I heard you in my sleep
For the rest of years, for the rest of years

So lonely, I'm trying to hear you
So lonely, I'm trying to hear you
So lonely, I'm trying to hear you
So lonely, I'm

All in time, but you fade away from
All in time, but you fade away from me love

They can't see what I can see
Turned away from me
I can turn everything around
I can turn everything around

They can't see what I can see
Turned away from me
I can turn everything around
I can turn everything around

They can't see what I can see
Turned away from me
I can turn everything around
I can turn everything around

All in time, but you fade away from
All in time, but you fade away from
All in time, but you fade away from me love

to me it sounds like he says "I'm keeping you in mind" in the first line and "In your watery eyes I'm gonna rest some day" in the fourth line but I could be wrong. I rediscovered this song and it is now on repeat. I pretty much love anything by the national. Their songs can be interpreted in many ways which is something I love in a song.

Pretty sleeve-hearted if you ask me: Berninger is depressed about his loss, and pissed at himself for being depressed, and depressed becuase he's pissed off at himself. This is pretty much the theme of every song on the album.

Fantastic song. Lots of thoughts, but still haven't figured out a meaning.

There was someone on the "Forever After Days" page that interpreted it as having something to do with God. I feel like that interpretation makes more sense in regards to this song.
