Down to you
You're pushing and pulling me down to you
But I don't know what I
Now when I caught myself, I had to stop myself
I'm saying something that I should have never thought
Now when I caught myself, I had to stop myself
I'm saying something that I should have never thought of you, of you

You're pushing and pulling me down to you
But I don't know what I want
No I don't know what I want

You got it, you got it
Some kind of magic
Hypnotic, hypnotic
You're leaving me breathless
I hate this, I hate this
You're not the one I believe in
With God as my witness

Now when I caught myself, I had to stop myself
I'm saying something that I should have never thought
Now when I caught myself, I had to stop myself
I'm saying something that I should have never thought of you,

You're pushing and pulling me down to you
But I don't know what I want
No I don't know what I want

Don't know what I want
But I know it's not you
Keep pushing and pulling me down
But I know in my heart it's not you

Now when I caught myself, I had to stop myself
I'm saying something that I should have never thought
Now when I caught myself, I had to stop myself
I'm saying something that I should have never thought of you
I knew, I know in my heart it's not you
I knew, but now I know what I want, I want, I want
Oh no, I should have never thought

    Song Meaning

ok, so this is my idea for the song meaning, its not about twilight though.

ok, so its when you start to like someone, to fall for them, but you dont want to. your trying not to, but you cant help it... you know your not supposed to end up with that person, or be with them, etc... you dont want to like them, but your starting to anyway... they sort of amaze you lol, whether they mean to or not

amazing song. very unique, you dont see many songs like this one, but its one im sure many people can relate to.

i actually first heard of this song like, 2 days after i had this dream where i almost told this guy that i DONT like that he was hot xD (which i dont think in real life, lol)

I'm glad this is on the Twilight soundtrack. I really like this more than Decode. But, I think that's because it's more chill.

I really love both songs Paramore made for the film. They're AMAZING.

Lol that said I guess I'd agree this is about Edward's feelings for Bella, though to be honest it would fit better in new moon or eclipse. To me it sounds like Bella's feelings for Jacob.

I haven't bought the soundtrack or actually heard this song yet, but having read the books, the lyrics seem to me like they're describing Bella's feelings for Jacob in 'New Moon.' She knows she feels something for him, but she knows it isn't the same thing she felt for Edward, and she isn't sure whether it's just a sisterly affection or love (just not epic love-of-your-life love). She's confused.

Hmm, I find this song in Bella's perspective, the same as with “Decode”. Edward pushed her: pushed her boundaries and her expectations, pushed her buttons, pushed her to her limits emotionally and especially every time he pushed her away against his will and hers. It’s an utterly addictive dynamic to their relationship. Their relationship blossomed & he was inexplicably drawn to her even though he could of have had anyone he wanted and he chose this regular, unordinary human, Bella.

At the end of Twilight, she asked him to never leave her and he promised. In New Moon, he goes against his promise. He wanted to protect her but even with him gone, Bella cant shake his gravitational pull he has on her! She hears his voice throughout the book when she does reckless things. “You got it, you got it, Some kind of magic, Hypnotic, hypnotic, You're leaving me breathless, I hate this, I hate this, You're not the one I believe in, With god as my witness” .. She knows she should of never thought to do what she did but she did it to hear his voice again, to somehow have him with her through the pain of it all. She leans and finds comfort with Jacob, her good friend. He loves Bella, he wants her as his girlfriend but she loves Edward and she knows that even if she tried to move on with Jacob, to try to be happy with him without Edward, it would never compare to what she had with Edward. Something she would never get over! Now she finds a similar pull to Jacob because he makes her feel better, but the things they do bring Edward back to her. She hears his voice when he is around but he isn’t the one for her and she knows it! “Don't know what I want, but I know it's not you, Keep pushing and pulling me down, When I know in my heart it's not you”

Pretty much the song jumbles meanings of whole Edward/Bella story. Hailey’s wordage can be misunderstood. But pretty much, it comes down to the hate relationship in the beginning to the blossomed love. Neither Edward or Bella expected it and they both fought against the urges. In New Moon, those urges are freed for some time and even with them away they can’t stop that shocking, gravitational pull they have on one another. Bella’s hearing the words of Edward throughout the book, she knows its his voice but its not really him but she longs for it. “Don't know what I want, but I know it's not you Keep pushing and pulling me down, Down to you, but I don't know what I want”

I think it could also be about Bella in love with Jake in Eclipse, I think it fits better for that book. Like Bella is saying that Jake keeps getting hurt by what she does with Edward but she doesn't want to let Jake go either because she it also in love with him; and at the same time it is Edward that she truly wants and needs to survive. But, I don't know I think it works for that situtation better because Edward never really felt that harsh about her loving him that much and in the song it describes that they keep pushing and pulling; that doesn't really fit with Edward and Bella. If you don't agree or have something to add, PLEASE DO!

i wish people would evaluate this song without the Twilight reference... I understand it's for Twilight specifically, but it actually makes me hate the song because it's about one of the worst series of books in the spotlight right now.

too bad. i had hope for the song.

This is my favorite song right now! I love this section: "You got it, you got it Some kind of magic Hypnotic, hypnotic You're leaving me breathless I hate this, I hate this You're not the one I believe in"

Ok, yes, I do know that this song is on the soundtrack, but can we not talk about Twilight for one god damn minute?! I hate Twilight, and it would be nice to go to one website and not hear about it. I think this whole Twilight epidemic is actually worse then the High School Musical fad.

!!Come at me Twilight fan-girl-freaks! I dare you!!

Like a lot of the other comments are saying, I think this mainly about voyeurism. If the song was about his girlfriend, then why would he use the word spy. If you are a spy it means you shouldn't be caught, that is kind of the whole point, and if you are a voyeur, the whole point of the pleasure you get from it, is the fact that the other people don't know you are watching them. See a bit of a connection there?

In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
