He is sensible and so incredible
And all my single friends are jealous
He says everything I need to hear and it's like
I couldn't ask for anything better
He opens up my door and I get into his car
And he says, "You look beautiful tonight"
And I feel perfectly fine
But I miss screaming and fighting and kissing in the rain
And it's two AM and I'm cursing your name
So in love that you act insane
And that's the way I loved you
Breakin' down and coming undone
It's a roller coaster kinda rush
And I never knew I could feel that much
And that's the way I loved you
He respects my space
And never makes me wait
And he calls exactly when he says he will
He's close to my mother
Talks business with my father
He's charming and endearing
And I'm comfortable
But I miss screaming and fighting and kissing in the rain
And it's two AM and I'm cursing your name
So in love that you act insane
And that's the way I loved you
Breakin' down and coming undone
It's a roller coaster kinda rush
And I never knew I could feel that much
And that's the way I loved you
He can't see the smile I'm faking
And my heart's not breaking
'Cause I'm not feeling anything at all
And you were wild and crazy
Just so frustrating, intoxicating
Complicated, got away by some mistake and now
I miss screaming and fighting and kissing in the rain
It's two AM and I'm cursing your name
So in love that I acted insane
And that's the way I loved you
Breakin' down and coming undone
It's a roller coaster kinda rush
And I never knew I could feel that much
And that's the way I loved you
Whoa oh oh, oh
And that's the way I loved you
Oh oh-oh, whoa
Oh oh-oh, whoa
Never knew I could feel that much
That's the way I loved you
And all my single friends are jealous
He says everything I need to hear and it's like

Anyone else notice the many references of rain in her fearless album? In this song, Fearless, and Hey Stephen, kissing in the rain is a positive thing. Rain is mentioned in Forever and Always, but it has a negative connotation.
This song is about having the perfect boyfriend who treats you well. He likes you, he gets along with your parents, even your friends are jealous of your relationship, but...
There's this other boy whom you dated who wasn't perfect in any way. He was wild and crazy, and frustrating. He acted insane. The two of you fought and even now you almost hate him (cursing your name), but it was passionate and real.
I don't really know if she's still in love with him, or she just misses the way she she felt when she was in love. It was "a roller coaster kind of rush." She never knew she could have so many feelings about one person. She had no idea she could have loved him (or anyone for that matter) so much.
"Got away by some mistake" I think this line just means that even though they had a rocky, intense relationship, she can't remember the exaact reason why they broke up.
I remember reading that she based it off of an idea, not a relationship she had. Still, I think it's a very powerful song. In the verse's she's talking about the boy she's currently dating. It's very calm and rational, and controlled. Then in the chorus, when she's talking about the guy she was in love with, she unleashes her energy and frustration.
All in all, one of my favorite Taylor Swift songs.
Rain, 2 a.m., and kissing in the rain are very common phrases in Taylor Swift music. Not only does she mention rain in the Fearless album, but also in her debut album and other songs (Sparks Fly, for one). <br /> <br /> I always thought this song had sexual implications, but I could be wrong. I think it's about a girl who is bored of a cute relationship and misses the drama and heartache because it felt good. Those feelings made her feel alive, and they quickened her life. I like how this song has a twisted story; it's not a typical plot.
I also noticed Tuesday came up quite a bit lol...though not in this song.<br /> <br /> Very well explained by the way...this is exactly how I feel sometimes about my ex and the guy I might be getting with now. I don't feel like this all the time but I think about it every now and then.
i agree that its about two different guys. one that she used to date, and then her current boyfriend.
its definitely one of my favorite songs.
i think its about how she has this perfect guy- he always calls when he says he will,he's close to her parents, he tells her everything she needs to hear, all her friends think he's perfect and that shes so lucky. and she should be completely happy.
but she's not. she's faking smiles, and getting bored with the "perfect" relationship. she missses the spontaneity of her old relationship. where they would scream and fight. and it would be 2am and she would be mad at him and cursing his name. and the good parts where they would be kissing in the rain. and they're so in love that they both act insane around each other. she misses the roller coaster feelings that go along with having a really passionate relationship. and where she says: "He can't see the smile I'm faking And my heart's not breaking Cause I'm not feeling anything at all And you were wild and crazy Just so frustrating intoxicating Complicated, got away by some mistake and now "
shes saying that her hearts not breaking becuase shes not as passionate about this relationship as she was when she was with the other guy. becuase since he was wild and crazy and frustrating and intoxicating and complicated. it made the relationship fun. and it wasnt just safe and boring. there was wild crazy feelings that made her head rush and her heart fly.
thats the kind of relationships i would LOVE to have. relationships are boring when everythings perfect. and i THINK thats part of what she's trying to say...
agreed.
Luckily, it sounds like you're not speaking from experience when you say that this is the "kind of relationships i would LOVE to have." Please, for your own sake, keep it that way.
@FALLINGforHIM1994 exactly
The song is about a boy who she is dating that is all the things she is saying which pretty much adds up to an amazing boy. But she misses her ex.
I love this song. One of my faves on her album.
:)
this is one of my favorites from fearless too, but i didn't see it as being about an ex... i see it as a girl who's been in a relationship with a perfect guy for a long time. it's a nice relationship and it's dependable ("comfortable"), but she misses the crazy passionate way they loved each other when they were first in love.
Its either one. I'm really not sure.
Actually I think it is about another guy because she says :<br /> <br /> 'got away by some mistake'<br /> <br /> and if she was still dating him he'd probably not have gone away
i'm pretty sure it's another guy because she says he in the verses and then you during the chorus :)
I totally agree with iloveatticus. I think it's about one guy, the guy she's with now. They've been together for a long time and she's happy, he's great and they're "comfortable". But she misses how it was when they'd first met each other.
I've never heard a song that the music and lyrics went so well together. Because the verses are so calm and composed. Then you get to the chorus, and its crazy and loud.
I think another thing no one has mentioned is everyone loves her current boyfriend, and she feels like she's living up to everyone's expectations. Because her ex maybe wasn't as liked by the parents or friends, so she feels as if trying to get back with her ex would be letting down too many people. So she wants to stay safe and make everyone happy, while protecting her heart from all the pain again.
the guy shes dating is everything she needs but not what she wants.
Not what she NEEDS. What everyone expects is the perfect fit for her.
verse- third person, "He" chorus- second person, "You"
underlined by the music verse calm chorus "wild and crazy"
for me she chosed this use of pronouns on purpose where i come to that she sings about two boys in my opinion
only thing confusing me is the "are" in "you're so in love that you act insane"- if shes singin'bout her ex there should be somethin like "you WERE" - But you were hasnt a shortform.. wouldn't fit in speed and so on.. my argument: artistic lisence ;)
it's about two guys!
No, i think it's definatley about two guys - the one she's dating now vs her ex boyfriend. Because she says "he's charming and endearing" but "you were wild and crazy." she would constantly say "you" if it was just one guy but she swings between you and he, meaning they are two separate people.
Anyways i love this song.
actually i cant really tell but i think that maybe she asked him to change and now she misses the old him. it might also be two guys but im leaning towards the first one<br />
Oh also she says, "got away by some mistake" which sounds to me like she let him go now realizing how much she had or how much she really loved him and now that she's with the other guy she finally sees what she had with the ex boyfriend.
