Welcome to Heartbreak Lyrics
My friend show me pictures of his kids
And all I can show him was pictures of my cribs
He said his daughter got a brand new report card (card)
And all I got was a brand new sports car (sports car)
And my head keeps spinning
Can't stop having these visions
I got to get with it
I can't stop having these visions
I got to get with it
Dad cracked a joke, all the kids laugh
But I couldn't hear them all the way in first class
Chased the good life my whole life long
Look back on my life and my life gone
Where did I go wrong?
And my head keeps spinning
Can't stop having these visions
I got to get with it
I can't stop having these visions
I got to get with it
I've seen it
I seen it before
I've seen it
I seen it before
I've seen it
I seen it before
I've seen it
I seen it before
But I couldn't figure out who I want to take
Bad enough that I showed up late
I had to leave 'fore they even cut the cake
Welcome to Heartbreak
And my head keeps spinning
Can't stop having these visions
I got to get with it
I can't stop having these visions
I got to get with it
And I can't -- And I can't stop
No no, I can't stop
No no no no, I can't stop
No no no no, I can't stop
Can't stop
I can't stop
I can't stop
No no no no
No no no no
No no no no-o-o-o-o-o-o
No no
I can't stop
I can't stop having these visions
I got to get with it

This song, to me, is about his regret at the choices he made in regards to being so career focused. He has missed opportunites in regards to love/family etc and now as he gets more mature he sees that everything he strived for, isn't 'everything'.
A counter point to Love Lockdown.
this song breaks my heart. meaning is obvious- he isn't rich in the way he wants to be. he's devoted so much time to his career and everything else has just passed him by. at least he realizes.. so he can do something about it. poor mr. kanye.

i agree...although he talks about the great things that he has done, he feels like the is somewhere where "he went wrong"

I think this song is about his battle with fame and his life before it. If you listen to him in the beginning he says how his friends showed him a picture of his family, and lal kanye has to offer is material items, things don't mean a thing in life. he has no one near him to love, he doesn;t have a family. the man then goe son by saying yes she got her first report card. and kanye tries to compare it, like a happy moment of his, and he can only think of... a sports car. (material) "Chased the good life my whole life long Look back on my life and my life gone" that line means he chased fame for so long and he finally got it, but now his life is gone. he cant have kids with apaprazii following him, everywhere he goes hes mobbed. he looks back and regrets his decision to want fame. but theres no turning back. he tries to tell him to stop, but yells NO I CANT STOP. I CANT STOP. he is now money-hungry.....

the meaning in this song:
Life is lonely at the top.

This song really goes to the heart of life... These things, cars, cribs are just things and when all is said and done you really don't look back on things but on relationships you've built and what they have meant to you... Kanye explains it beautifully in this song... Tough spot to be in after lossing his mama and future wife.
Lovely album;)

I think it's about the sacrifices in one's personal life and happiness that are made in order to chase fame, wealth, and major success. Kanye is looking back on his life, and while he achieved great success and accomplished many of his goals, he still regrets the price he had to pay and questions if it was really all worth it. It is presented as a warning to young rappers (personified by Cudi) or anyone else chasing greatness. Kid Cudi still possesses the fire and drive to be successful, which reminds Kanye of himself ("I've seen it before") and Kanye is warning Cudi that the lifestyle is not that great. Ultimately, though, Kanye never takes his own advice and can't stop pursuing success. In the last verse of the song, Kanye sings Cudi's chorus, showing that just like Cudi or a younger Kanye, he is still consumed with chasing greatness.

Best song on the new album. Anyone agree? Also, way to much auto tuning on this album overall.

“Welcome to Heartbreak,” features one of West’s simplest, yet most effective allusions to his feelings of despair. (Actual Lyrics: “Dad cracked a joke, all the kids laughed, but I couldn’t hear him all the way in first-class. Chased the good-life, my whole life long, look back on my life, all my life gone, where did I go wrong?”) In this deep track, West realizes that although he seems to have it all, he is missing out on the simple and more fulfilling joys of life.
some of the couplets in this song are absolute gold,

brilliant really
brilliant really

To me I think its about how he isn't enjoying life and that about how he should get his act together and settle down.
Kanye has this vid out now eh? Its sick you gotta check it out xD

the grass is always greener on the other side..........when you're riding out the lows of life.
sure, he's not wealthy in the ways that matter in the grand scheme of things. but he's in a position to help others and that's his destiny. he knows that and he's choosing to follow it.

This song made me cry a bit. I think he's realizing the choice he made between fame and everything else,ie family.

This song speaks to me, I do think its a direct reflection of his life, being career driven he has missed out on some of the things he now sees as the good life.
I think he wrote this song to help others realize that being rich, owning the best things in life isn't necessarily the good life, that success sometimes is the things that you can'y actually touch.
