Im guessing its def about his fiance and their breakup. The chorus symbolizes what Kanye feels and wants. He is still in denial and the versus of the songs are actually what he prays for. He fantasizes about being with her again but knows that it's impossible. The 808 kicks mixed with the beep also symbolize the heartbeat and sets the tone for the album. It's like he's in the hospital...then all of a sudden the beeps and 808s go away in the instrumental ending symbolizing that he died on the inside. They come back in to shed light that hes alive and that hes going to accept the truth even though it sucks.
I believe it's definetely about marriage and agreeing to be with the other person period. "Don't say you will (You do)" As in "I Do" when you agree to marry someone else. Its a beautiful song. notice how painful his voice sounds as the song progresses. Its almost as if he cant bare to finish the song. Thats why I think the song stops and the beat rides for an extra 3 min. I believe it's to emphasize the pain and kind of wallowing in your sorrows type of feel. i love the beeps. it gives the feeling of making...

U can hear the pain nd the desparation in his voice..he wants her back..nd he's tired of her letting him down..nd only being there for him sometimes..he prays she will..come through for him nd come back to him..so they can be how they were before..cause he still thinks of her..
For me this is the best song on 808s & Heartbreak. It sets the mood of the rest of the album and it is painfully beautiful. It's clear that Kanye isen't the best singer in the world. But he seems to have found the right level for his voice. It's indeed a very speciel album. Can't wait to explore it some more.
I agree with the 808 sounding like a heart monitor and the chorus being a direct reference to wedding vows (I do, I will, etc.). This song has the biggest melody on the album, if not of all time. I love how austere the auto-tune makes his voice sound. It's so sad and powerful, and yet at the same time so almost sterile and resigned.
Again I return to this song. Now. More than 3 ½ months later this song still keeps it's power. I'm listening to it now and it moves me perhaps even more than when I first wrote about it here. I'm close to calling it the best song Kanye ever wrote. And the album the best album he ever made. I'm a sucker for melancholy and bitter sweetness and this album has buckets of that. A lot of the songs on this album thoughes me so deep in my soul, that words can't explain how emotional I get when listening to a song like Say you will or Street lights. Kanye! You have outdone yourself this time!
..the 808 sounding like a heart monitor...first time I noticed it I thought of him (as an everyman) & a hospital and just broke down crying. Gorgeous. I love the auto-tune. If there has EVER been a time & place for it....Its crazy that people ripped on that but I cant see any other way he'd have set the tone so perfectly and allowed his full of pride self to go where he did on this album. Where would be without creative geniuses like this guy? A much colder world. Tired of defending his actions but the music will always stand alone for me.
WOW,,, I know how Kanye feels.. This song relates to me and a recent relationship situation... He does still desire his ex but knows its time to move on... He's got too much going on to stop and focus Truly on this Lost Love and he knows it.
I love this song. To me it's one of the stand out tracks on 808s and Heatbreak. For sure better than either lead single.

Can't stop listening to this song. Agree that its the best song on the album. It has so much emotion in it and it definitely resonates with me since I'm going through the same thing as him now :/
