There, there must be
An easier way
To release these feelings

So, so far from home
I need your voice
To hold my head together

So, so far from home
I need your voice
To lift my lonely state of mind

You, you can but wait
For me to return
For me to show you how I felt

These wounds have bled
And pages fly by
I need to feel you right by my side

So, so far from home
I need your voice
To hold my head together

So, So far from home
I need your voice
To lift my lonely state of mind

Oh there must be
An easier way
Oh there must be
An easier way
Oh there must be
An easier way
To release these feelings

As the sea breeze hits my lungs
It takes me back to where I belong
To where I belong

As the sea breeze hits my lungs
It takes me back to where I belong
To where I belong

As the sea breeze hits my lungs
It takes me back to where I belong
To where I belong

    My Interpretation

Although my interpretation is biased and most likely doesn't reflect the artists intentions at all, I thought I'd toss in my two cents.

"Oh there must be an easier way! To release these feelings!

As the sea breeze hits my lungs, it takes me back to where I belong!"

-To me, this album reflects a very dark time in my life, when my only thought was of suicide--by drowning to be specific--and my loneliness and depression were only outweighed by the anger and desperation in my heart and mind. This song in particular gives voice to both sides of my mind at the time--one overlooking the ocean from atop a cliff, screaming for release, the other lost somewhere deep inside, searching for meaning.

"So...so far from home, In need of your voice to hold my head together. So...so far from home, In need of your voice to lift my lonely state of mind."

-At one point, I felt so far disconnected from those around me, that for all I cared, I could have been on the moon.

As I said, this is most likely nothing like the intended meaning or associated emotions, but I needed to get it off my chest. Take from it what you will.

i think this song is about fame and missing home, hence 'hollow crown', the crown of fame is a fake and hollow one, and he wants to be home

Just commenting for a second on the song title, I think it also has something to do with being on tour. "Hollow Crown" could be a metaphor for how the band has seen so much success and has so many people looking up to it, but that the person who really matters isn't there, so that "crown" means nothing.

"As the sea breeze hits my lungs It takes me back to where I belong To where I belong"

First time i read it, without realizing, this lyrics immediately reminded me of the Brighton beach and how the winds are quite strong there but really nice. I think there's a correlation between that and the fact that these cats are from Brighton.

Definitely about being away on tour and missing your girl.

So, so far from home I need your voice To hold my head together

    • He needs his girlfriend by his side

As the sea breeze hits my lungs It takes me back to where I belong To where I belong

    • The feeling he gets when he returns home ?

This song is pretty sweet either way.. It's a nice break from all the heavy stuff on the album. Am definitely buying it.

    Actual lyrics are:

"There...there must be an easier way to release these feelings.

So...so far from home, In need of your voice to hold my head together. So...so far from home, In need of your voice to lift my lonely state of mind.

You...you can but wait for me to return, for me to show you how I felt. These months have just blurred, and the days just fly by. These times I needed to feel you right by my side.

So...so far from home, In need of your voice to hold my head together. So...so far from home, In need of your voice to lift my lonely state of mind.

Oh there must be an easier way! Oh there must be an easier way! Oh there must be an easier way! To release these feelings!

As the sea breeze hits my lungs, it takes me back to where I belong!"

Oh, and amazing song, by the way. Slow, less heavy, almost ballad-like songs like this always get me, haha.

Hmmm... Almost definitely about being out on the road, but who knows the deepest bit. I think it starts of like a bit of a lament to "someone" then gradually works its way to just being back home, and how great it feels after being away for any extended period of time. Where's the comments, we need more loving for these guys!

Classic love story true to his western tx roots. One of my favorites as a story, but I think there are alot of songs that are amazing not even listed on this site. I guess I should figure out how to add them, because I have about 8 REK cd's.

Like a lot of the other comments are saying, I think this mainly about voyeurism. If the song was about his girlfriend, then why would he use the word spy. If you are a spy it means you shouldn't be caught, that is kind of the whole point, and if you are a voyeur, the whole point of the pleasure you get from it, is the fact that the other people don't know you are watching them. See a bit of a connection there?

Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”
