I think this is ironic, because by my thinking a cotton is not high and strong :) So - you can´t do what you want Or you can do but as long as the cotton is strong ... so no long.

I think "Earth will die" - it doesn´t mean literally. I think people on Earth will die. But why would he say that you can´t do what you want (or just a while) and we should be like this all the time? I think, that if you will do what you want, you´d do it just a while and then you will die. And people who don´t do what they want they will live forever.
My thinking.
For me it's kinda obvious, i heard this in many others songs and i'm trying to live like this every day. This song is about being free all the time because one day you are gonna die and you gonna regret if you didnt take your chance to do something or was too afraid to be yourself.
"Count the number of beings you are" I think thats about masks which person wears when being with different people
