Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.
Its not like I made myself a list of new and different ways,
To murder your heart.
I'm just a painting that's still wet.
If you touch me Ill be smeared, you'll be stained,
Stained for the rest of your life.
So turn around and walk away
Before we confuse the way, we abuse each other.
If your not afraid of getting hurt
Then I am not afraid of how much I hurt you
I'm well aware I'm a danger to myself.
Are you aware I'm a danger to others?
There's a crack in my soul, you thought was a smile.
What ever doesn't kill you,
Is gonna leave a scar
What ever doesn't kill you,
Is gonna leave a scar
I'm more like a silver bullet
Than I'm like a gun,
I'm not easy to hold.
I'm moving fast and if I stay in your heart,
I'm certain that this will be the end of your life
So turn around walk away
Before we confuse the way we abuse each other
If your not afraid of getting hurt then I am not afraid
How much I hurt you
I'm well aware I'm a danger to myself
Are you aware I'm a danger to others?

Techno Ted may be a person who caused Chris incredible emotional pain & trepidation as well as moments of peace & happiness but now is removed and awaiting his fate. Darling may be a different person who is also free of him and can live her life free of Ted's tyranny. "In between all the laughing, and daydreams ... lies: a desert of truth" Lies are like a desert or the omission of Truth: Where there were Lies then Truth was absent. The song, "Techno Ted", may be a cathartic celebration of the downfall of this person.

In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve.
The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future.
Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere"
The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”
i think this song is about how if you make one bad decision it will haunt you for the rest of your life and you cant get rid of it and some how it will come back too bite you in butt
I read in an interview that this song is goes out to his ex-wife. This song contains everything he wish he could have said to her when they broke up.
GREAT SONG.
about shitty relationships.
I love it.
it's "i should warn you that you may fuck me"
The first song of the album that leaped into my mind and stuck. Fantast-a-fucking-ic! I'd put it next to The Speed of Pain, in my book. The song says more than I ever could.
the alt version on the 2nd disc (accoustic version) is unbeleivable
yeh superbeast's right. The alt version is great. I really like this song. alot.
Love this song, deff one of the best on the album. Just one thing, does any-one-else hear (during the opening beat) Rolling Stones - Get Your Rocks Off
love this new style of manson, its great
This song kind of seems to me like he feels he's almost tainted in a way..The way he talks about himself in the song.. "And I'm not afraid of how much I hurt you" "There's a crack in my soul You thought it was a smile" "If I stay inside your heart I'm certain that this will be the end of your life" "But chances are I'm gonna to fuck you over"
He could hurt her, and he knows he probably will, but goes ahead anyways, not caring about what he does to "murder her heart".
Sometimes I want to be this heartless. Instead of being on the other side.
