So this has been.my favorite song of OTEP's since it came out in 2004, and I always thought it was a song about a child's narrative of suffering in an abusive Christian home. But now that I am revisiting the lyrics, I am seeing something totally new.
This song could be gospel of John but from the perspective of Jesus.
Jesus was NOT having a good time up to and during the crucifixion. Everyone in the known world at the time looked to him with fear, admiration or disgust and he was constantly being asked questions. He spoke in "verses, prophesies and curses". He had made an enemy of the state, and believed the world was increasingly wicked and fallen from grace, or that he was in the "mouth of madness".
The spine of atlas is the structure that allows the titan to hold the world up. Jesus challenged the state and in doing so became a celebrated resistance figure. It also made him public enemy #1.
All of this happened simply because he was doing his thing, not because of any agenda he had or strategy.
And then he gets scourged (storm of thorns)
There are some plot holes here but I think it's an interesting interpretation.
Prolly get it wrong as much as I get it right,
But I got it right woman when I caught your eye
What I remember most about that night is
I love the way you move baby
I love the way you move baby
I like most liquor but I don't like gin
I don't always like the skin I'm in
When I get it wrong I'm gonna start again
But I love the way you love me baby
I love the way you move baby
Oh oh oh oh yeah
Oh oh oh oh yeah
Oh oh oh oh
All the freaks are on parade, I wanna fill my belly so I gotta get paid
Doesn't everybody deserve to have a good life
But it don't always work out, so cry cry baby if we must
But just remember, just remember I love the way you love me baby
And I love the way you move
I'm not all there, but I'm a faithful sinner
I might get lost, but I'll be home for dinner
If God don't like me he can send me to hell
But I love the way you love me girl
And I love the way you move baby
But I prayed to heaven to keep my place
'Till I looked in the mirror saw the devil's face
And I'll be a dog for a tail to chase
But I love the way you kiss me baby
I love the way you talk baby
I love the way you talk
All the freaks are on parade, I wanna fill my belly so I gotta get paid
Doesn't everybody deserve to have a good life
But it don't always work out, so cry cry baby if we must
But just remember, just remember I love the way you move
Bad days come when the good day's gone
Workin' as hard as the day is long
A workin' man works but when I get home
I love the way you talk baby
I love the way you talk baby
All the freaks are on parade, I wanna fill my belly so I gotta get paid
Doesn't everybody deserve to have a good life
But it don't always work out, so cry cry baby if we must, but
Oh, remember,
Oh remember,
All the people are on parade, thought I saw a spaceman tryin' to get laid
Doesn't everybody deserve to have a good life
But it don't always work out, cry cry baby if we must
But just remember, I'll remember
I love the way you love me girl
But I got it right woman when I caught your eye
What I remember most about that night is
I love the way you move baby
I love the way you move baby
I like most liquor but I don't like gin
I don't always like the skin I'm in
When I get it wrong I'm gonna start again
But I love the way you love me baby
I love the way you move baby
Oh oh oh oh yeah
Oh oh oh oh yeah
Oh oh oh oh
All the freaks are on parade, I wanna fill my belly so I gotta get paid

But just remember, just remember I love the way you love me baby

I really can't think of a Dave song that doesn't make me think of something that has happened in my life... it is simply amazing. Even if my situation doesn't match what he wrote it about, I can make it mine. That is the beautiful thing about music like this, pure emotion can be translated into many different situations in life. Keep jammin' guys, and everybody else plz keep listening and loving!
so good live.
I agree, this is very good live. I love the fast-pace :)
these lyrics aren't correct:
first line should be:
PROBABLY GET IT WRONG MUCH AS I GET IT RIGHT, girl But I got it right woman when I caught your eye
also:
it's "I'M NOT ALL THERE, but I'm a faithful sinner"
also the part that starts with "not a man..."
maybe you heard a live version that was different now that I think about all that is wrong?
Actually, it's "I'm not all bad, but I'ma faithful sinner," idiot.
I tried submitting my version of the lyrics to the site, which were taken DIRECTLY from the CD lyrics book, but the wrong lyrics are still posted on here...this is by far my favorite song off of his new album, so maybe that's why I'm so into the correct lyrics!
these are the worst interpretations.. maybe off the live version or something

I hear:
"probably get a woman just like anybody
but i got a right woman when i caught your eye
remember most about that night is
I love the way you move baby
yes i love the way you move me/baby"
this song reminds me of "what i got" by sublime. It's basically about how life is always ordinary with expected ups and downs but he loves this girl so it all works out
doesnt everybody deserve to have a good life
I think this has my pick for the best on the new album.
