In the night, I hear 'em talk,
The coldest story ever told
Somewhere far along this road,
He lost his soul to a woman so heartless

How could you be so heartless?
Oh, how could you be so heartless?

How could you be so, cold as the winter wind when it breeze, yo
Just remember that you talkin' to me though
You need to watch the way you talkin' to me, yo
Mean after all the things that we've been through
Mean after all the things we got into
Y'all know some things, that you ain't told me
Y'all did some things, that's the old me
And now you wanna get me back and you gon' show me
So you walk around like you don't know me
You got a new friend, I got homies
In the end, but still so lonely

In the night, I hear 'em talk,
The coldest story ever told
Somewhere far along this road,
He lost his soul to a woman so heartless

How could you be so heartless?
Oh, how could you be so heartless?

How could you be so Dr. Evil,
You bringin' out a side of me that I don't know
I decided we weren't gon' speak so
Why we up 3 A.M. on the phone
Why does she be so mad at me fo'
Homie I don't know, she's hot or cold
I won't stop, won't mess my groove up
'Cause I already know how this thing go
You run and tell your friends that you're leaving me
They say that they don't see what you see in me
You wait a couple months then you gon' see
You'll never find nobody better than me

In the night, I hear 'em talk,
The coldest story ever told
Somewhere far along this road,
He lost his soul to a woman so heartless

How could you be so heartless?
Oh, how could you be so heartless?

Talk and talk and talk and talk
Baby let's just knock it off
They don't know what we been through
They don't know 'bout me and you
So I got something new to see
And you just gon' keep hatin' me
And we just gon' be enemies
I know you can't believe
I could just leave it wrong
And you can't make it right
I'm gon' take off tonight
Into the night

In the night, I hear 'em talk,
The coldest story ever told
Somewhere far along this road,
He lost his soul to a woman so heartless

How could you be so heartless?
Oh, how could you be so heartless?

In the night, I hear 'em talk,
The coldest story ever told
Somewhere far along this road,
He lost his soul to a woman so heartless

How could you be so heartless?
Oh, how could you be so heartless?

I think this song is about a couple in the midst of their realtionship...they dont seem like they have been dating super long, but they have finally started to open up to each other, and he wants her to trust him he wants to heal her, "I know the memories rushing into your mind. I want to kiss your scars tonight."

shes obviously is hesitant to love again, but he wants to know that she can love him, "'Cause you've gotta try, you've gotta let me in, let me in."

    • I can so relate because I have been hurt bad in past relationships ,but i cant let that hold me back for future relationships, because someone great could pass me bye if I dont let them ," kiss my scars." Because Issac is right....whether you have been hurt or not, " if you love someone you love them all the same."- meaning that love is love, its never different, it is always amazing.

"I know the memories rushing into your mind. I want to kiss your scars tonight. I'm laying here, 'Cause you've gotta try, you've gotta let me in, let me in"

"I've got the kerosene and the desire. I'm trying to start a flame in the heart of the night"

i cant believe how amazing this song is.. but the fray is always "framazing" i cant wait for the new album "scars and stories" i cant wait..

What intrigued me the most in the song was the line "If you love somebody, you love them all the same". This line was repeated over and over in the song. It got me thinking. I feel he is trying to comfort the girl. She probably had a very bad heartbreak in the past, and now feels she may not love somebody again, not as deeply as she did that time. She fears that she is dead inside. That is why he repeats "I feel your heartbeat". He is trying to tell her "If you love somebody, you love them the same". No matter how much pain you have been through, when you fall in love again, its as beautiful as it was the first time.

"Oh you gotta fire and it's burnin' in the rain. Thought that it went out, but it's burnin' just the same. And you don't look back, not for anything. 'Cause you love someone, you love them all the same. If you LOVE someone, you love them all the same."

This para again points to the same direction. He's telling her that you still have a fire in you, and though its under rain (heartbreak) and you thought it has been put out, its still burning the same. And you don't have to look back to what you had, cause when you love someone, you love just the same.

Frontman Isaac Slade penned the song with guitarist Joe King. It was inspired by the singer's experiences whilst traveling in Africa. He explained: "That song came out of a period of my life when I was trying hard to be open to whatever came my way. I traveled through South Africa and Rwanda with a buddy, and at first it was really hard to stay open in the face of so much pain and heartache. But then I ended up meeting so many cool and inspiring people, and all these ideas for lyrics and melodies just started rushing in."

Kanye West is my favorite rapper, and the Fray is my favorite band, so I was soooo happy when the Fray covered them. But Rodeojoneswa is right,Kanye nailed this one. Pure genius, describes breakups perfectly. Kanye's version I see as the guy is pissed that he got dumped, but still has feelings for her, but because of his ego, he hides the feelings. While the Fray's version has the same emotions,in their version, they aren't afraid to let the girl know he still has feelings for her.

Damn, this is how you do a cover! I mostly avoid rap/hip-hop, so I didn't even know that this wasn't a The Fray original, until five minutes ago - they made this song entirely their own. Awsome. Just awsome.

    My Interpretation

I just found out that they got a new album coming out very soon and that this is the first single off of it. I can't believe I missed the announcement then again I'm absent-minded.

I like this song especially the last part. It's different from their other songs that I like more ("Never Say Never", "You Found Me", "Over My Head"). I adore it anyway. I think it's about a couple going through a struggle or at least that's how it speaks to me. I can relate to it; the girl has had devastating experiences with love before and now she's all locked and he wants to help her.

That's how I interpret it. A very cute song and I can't wait for the album which I hope is just as great.

    My Interpretation

I've read what made this song, and the trip to Africa and such.

But personally, I feel that this song is about a couple who have had some trouble with their relationship. And to me it's as if the person singing is the one who has done something wrong (cheat, lie, whatever) and they're trying to fix it... And when it goes 'Oh you gotta fire and it's burnin' in the rain Thought that it went out, but it's burnin' just the same And you don't look back, not for anything' that's them saying that they can see in the other person that the fire of the love is still there in them, and that they aren't going to look back at the past mistakes because they love the person anyway...and the part 'if you love someone you love them all the same' is them saying look you love me, and you really love me then you'll love me regardless of my past mistakes...

And then this part 'I know the memories rushing into mind I want to kiss your scars tonight I'm laying here, 'Cause you've gotta try, you've gotta let me in, let me in' Is them saying I was there I know what the memories are like and I know how you were happy and were hurt, and I want to make things better. And that you have to try and remember what it was like and let me back in because you love me and things can be good again, you just have to trust me again...

I am not a Kanye West fan but he shows his genius in this song. The Fray version kills...
