Yeah
Whoa

I know this isn't what I wanted
I never thought it'd come this far
Just thinking back to where we started
And how we lost all that we are

We were young and times were easy
But I could see it's not the same
I'm standing here but you don't see me
Give it all for that to change
And I don't want to lose her
Don't wanna let her go

Standing out in the rain
Need to know if it's over
'Cause I will leave you alone
Flooded with all this pain
Knowing that I'll never hold her
Like I did before the storm

Yeah
Before the storm

With every strike of lightening
Comes a memory that lasts
And not a word is left unspoken
As the thunder starts to crash
And maybe I should give up

Standing out in the rain
Need to know if it's over
'Cause I would leave you alone
Flooded with all this pain
Knowing that I'll never hold her
Like I did before the storm

Trying to keep the light from going out
And the clouds were ripping out my broken heart
They always say a heart is not a home
Without the one who gets you through the storm

Standing out in the rain
Knowing that it's really over
Please don't leave me alone
I'm flooded with all this pain
Knowing that I'll never hold ya
Like I did before the storm
Yeah

Like I did before the storm

Even though i´m not a Miley Cyrus neither a Jonas brother fan I think this song is excellent and one of their best songs. They sound great together. This song is very powerful and meaningful. It is about their break up, but now they are back together i´m happy for them they are great together.

    My Interpretation

I think the song is obviously about a couple who are looking back to before they got in a big fight (the storm) and now they're saying "If it's over, then tell me and I can move on, but if it's not, we'll never be the same as we were before the fight" Relationships are never the same after your first big fight, and I think that's what Nick means by "I'll never hold her like I did before the storm" He obviously doesn't want to lose what they had, and she just wants to know what's up.

It's a very powerful song, I love that they did this one together.

wow...... its ironic that days after miley and justin break up that this song is leaked..... it has to be about them.... its a really beautifully written song about feeling lost after losing the one person you thought you would never lose... and before the breakup(storm) talking about the love they shared. in one of miley's songs she talks about standing in the rain(was it 7 things? i dont remember) and about breaking up with the person.....

I agree with what ada111 said. Yes, she did say that in 7 Things. In JB's song sorry they said: filled with sorrow, filled with pain knowing that I am to blame for leaving your heart out in the rain...

So I assume it was raining or something when they broke up...lol.

no duhhh it's about themm. nick has said himself that he wanted miley to sing on it and they even changed the lyrics a little bit so it makes more sense that it IS about them. and sorry wasn't even written by nick referring to him and miley, it was written by joe about a girl he wasn't there for while he was on tour.

It's obviously about her and Nick, because why else would Nick want her singing on this song with them? I don't think they're back together but they're friends and they're just expressing their past relationship in music. A really powerful song though.

um.. if you read the booklet that comes with the cd it clearly states in small, printed letters that nick, joe, kevin, and miley all wrote the song. Not only did miley sing on this track she helped write it too.

Classic love story true to his western tx roots. One of my favorites as a story, but I think there are alot of songs that are amazing not even listed on this site. I guess I should figure out how to add them, because I have about 8 REK cd's.

Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
