1
I brush my teeth and look in the mirror,
And laugh out loud,
As I'm beaming from ear to ear,
I'd rather pick flowers instead of fights,
And rather than flaunt my style I'd flash you a smile
Of clean pearly whites.
I've been to the dentist a thousand times so I know the drill,
I smooth my hair,
Sit back in the chair
But somehow I still get the chills
Have a seat he says pleasantly,
As he shakes my hand and practically laughs at me,
"Open up nice and wide" he says peering in,
And with a smirk he says "don't have a fit,
This will just pinch a bit"
As he tries not to grin.
When hygienists
Leave on long vacations
That's when dentists scream and
Lose their patience
Talking only brings the toothaches on because
I say the stupidest things
So if my results go south, I swallow my pride with an aspirin and shut my mouth
Golf and alcohol don't mix
And that's why I don't drink and drive
Because good grief
I'd knock out my teeth
And have to kiss my smile goodbye
I've been to the dentist a thousand times
So I know the drill,
I smooth my hair,
Sit back in the chair
But some how I still get the chills
And laugh out loud,
As I'm beaming from ear to ear,
I'd rather pick flowers instead of fights,
And rather than flaunt my style I'd flash you a smile
Of clean pearly whites.
I've been to the dentist a thousand times so I know the drill,
I smooth my hair,
Sit back in the chair
But somehow I still get the chills
Have a seat he says pleasantly,
As he shakes my hand and practically laughs at me,
"Open up nice and wide" he says peering in,
And with a smirk he says "don't have a fit,
This will just pinch a bit"
As he tries not to grin.

That's when dentists scream and
Lose their patience
Talking only brings the toothaches on because

adam young is probably the only person who could write a song about going to the dentist and have it make me feel happy. such a cute song. he amazes me. =]
Exactly. He's also the only dude I know of that can pull off singing a song about the Dentist, and it comes off as cool and quirky, not stupid.

Adam is a pretty amazing artist. Seems like a damn good person as well.
yesh haha. he can make a song out of anything. thats why i admire him and he started me to write my music. my friends say it sounds just like him.
I'm thinking I must've seen this song in a little bit of a different life.
Yes, it's about visiting a dentist and smiling. But it has nothing to do wtih eating sweets but figuratively keeping your mouth clean. That is, don't say hurtful things or don't full your mouth with dirty words, because it will figuratively rot your teeth. I see this in the Verse;
'When hygienists leave on long vacations That's when dentists scream and lose their patience Talking only brings the toothaches on Because I say the stupidest things So if my result goes south I'll swallow my pride with an Aspirin And shut my mouth'
He says hygienists as in our good conscience or just good people in general. When we forget about our good conscience, we tend to say hurtful things and bring the toothaches on, and so the dentists are busy seeing more people. Did that make sense only in my head? XD
Also in the verse;
'Golf and alcohol don't mix And that's why I don't drink and drive Because good grief, I'd knock out my teeth And have to kiss my smile goodbye'
Alcohol tends to let us loose our inhibition and we say rather stupid things when drunk. And we'll probably end up getting ourselves hurt in the end.
What also made me believe this was the lines right at the beginning; 'I brush my teeth and look in the mirror And laugh out loud as I'm beaming from ear to ear I'd rather pick flowers instead of fights And rather than flaunt my style I'd flash you a smile of clean pearly whites'
Don't go picking fights and make yourself appear big and put other people down. Show people how great your teeth look because you don't say mean and hurtful things. =D
Anywho, that's how I took it.
your idea is great!
I think the line "I'd rather pick flowers instead of fights" and "rather than flaunt my style I'd flash you a smile of clean pearly whites" clearly proves that you're right!;)
This song is so silly, but still very much in the vein of Owl City. This pretty much sums of all of my dental appointments, especially:
First <3
I love this song <3 Its so cute and funny yet utterly pointless yet 100% lovable. Everything Adam writes is <3
"Golf and Alcohol don't mix and thats why I don't drink and drive. Because good grief I'd knock out my teeth and have to kiss my smile goodbye."
Best line in the song <3
"Golf and alcohol don't mix and that's why I don't drink and drive."
I just understood this line last night! He means to drive as in to hit the golf ball, not as in driving a car! Just thought I'd share my elation at this personal discovery... ^_^
I just realized the same thing when i was in the car with my mom the other day!
...i did not realize this until right now, as I read your comment. I feel kind of dumb haha
such a cute, silly song :)
LOVE this song. Very creative (:
this song is amazingly silly! it somehow reminds me of the "teeth" song on The Fairy OddParents. hahaha
Oh my goodness, I was listening to this song today and I thought of the same thing! "My shiny teeth and me!" hahaha that's awesome.
THAT'S WHAT I WAS THINKING!!!
It's the only guy besides Chip Skylarck that would write a song about teeth.
I love Owl City.
That's what i was also thinking
The first time I heard this song, I couldn't help but smile and laugh a bit. It describes a visit to the dentist's office perfectly, but in a rather comical way (and not to mention with good beats.)
But am I the only one that finds the tiniest bit of "dark" humor in this?
"Open up nice and wide," he says peering in And with a smirk he says "don't have a fit, this'll just pinch a bit," as he tries not to grin
&
But somehow I still get the chills
I don't know, but that verse and line remind me of the scare dentist give me. |D
I totally see the dark humor in it, the first time I heard it I was like "That dentist sounds scary as heck!"
man thats so perverted....................................but its still one of his "happy songs". lol!!
have no clue if there is a double meaning in this song but who cares!!!!! owl city is absolutley amazing!!!!!!!!!!
Amen.
