I haven't lost anything except my mind
Expect a thousand confessions that you will not find
I try to take off my head sometimes,
Because I can't escape the memories
I haven't lost anything except my mind (except my mind)

You could be empty
And I can be right here empty with you
Or you could be hollow
And I can be right here hollow with you
If you want to say goodbye to everything,
I could say goodbye too
I can be right here empty with you.

I haven't wasted anything except my time (except my time)
Forget the treasures we burned because we'll be just fine
I try to take off my head sometimes
Because I can't escape for the life of me,
I haven't lost anything except my mind (my mind)

You could be empty
And I can be right here empty with you
Or you could be hollow,
And I can be right here hollow with you
If you want to say goodbye to everything
I could say goodbye too
I can be right here empty with you

Instead of going underground
Instead of calling them out
Instead of running 'cause your still breathing
Instead of swallowing lies
Instead of buried alive
Let's twist the knife 'til they can't stop bleeding
If you need a confession, I'm guilty
Let's chase the knife 'til they can't stop bleeding
Do you think I feel sorry? Forgive me.
Let's chase the knife 'til they can't stop bleeding
Instead of going underground
Instead of calling them out
Let's chase the knife 'til they can't stop bleeding

You could be empty
And I can be right here empty with you
Or you could be hollow
And I can be right here hollow with you
If you want to say goodbye to everything
I could say goodbye too
I can be right here empty with you

I see this song completely differently. To me, it's about being in relationship with someone who loves you with their heart & soul, but you don't feel the same way; never have & never will. But you just can't bring yourself to tell them to truth, to hurt them so deeply.

I haven't lost anything except my mind/ [he's gone a little crazy, being stuck in this situation] Expect a thousand confessions that you will not find/ [the confession being that he doesn't love her] I try to take off my head sometimes because I can't escape the memories/ [he just wants to get away from himself] I haven't lost anything except my mind/ [ '' ]

You could be empty/ [her without him] and I can be right here empty with you/ [or he can be empty, but make her happy] or You can be hollow/ [with out, typical unrequited love] and I can be right here hollow with you/ [he can be with her] If you want to say goodbye to everything/ [when she wants to end it,] I could say goodbye too/ [he'll be fine] I can be right here empty with you/ [he be with her, empty inside]

I haven't wasted anything except my time/ [he's wasting time with her] Forget the treasures we burned because we'll be just fine/ [forget about the past. it doesn't really matter] I try to take off my head sometimes because I can't escape for the life of me/ [he just wants to get away from her, from this fake relationship] I haven't lost anything except my mind/ [he's getting a little more crazy]

Instead of going underground/ [instead of breaking up] Instead of calling them out/ [instead of saying his true feelings] Instead of running, 'cause you're still creeping/ [instead of letting her go, he let her hold on] Instead of swallowing lies/ [instead of telling the truth] Instead of buried alive/ [instead of letting her world come crashing down] Let's twist the knife 'til they can't stop bleeding/ [the pain of this relationship is masochistic; he's twisting a metaphoric knife into his heart by continuing this lie because he loves her, but like a friend]

If you need a confession, I'm guilty/ [i never loved you] Let's twist the knife 'til they can't stop bleeding/ [ '' ] Do you think I feel sorry? Forgive me/ [he's sorry he couldn't love her back] Let's twist the knife 'til they can't stop bleeding/ [ '' ]

Instead of going underground/ [ '' ] instead of calling them out/ [ '' ] Let's twist the knife 'til they can't stop screaming/ [he's going to endure this until he can't any longer]

I think the above interpretations are okay. But a few extremely important things are being left out. This singer is known for making albums that have themes based on his current emotions. In other words, songs are similar in each CD.

This song is obviously about a girl he is in troubled times with. But, my take is that A) They are socially separated and B) He still loves her. He says “Expect a thousand confessions that you will not find” meaning that she is waiting for him to apologize for how he acted; but he cannot apologize. Why can’t he apologize? (she would ask) Because he has lost his mind!

He may not have really lost his mind, but that is what makes the most sense for him to admit to (to her and his friends). She has done this to other dudes before, and they probably did confess to her (which is why he keeps saying “them”). While she is still “alive” and “breathing” somewhere, the knife is being twisted into him. She isn’t hiding (“going underground”), she isn’t “calling him out” to get answers, and she surely isn’t running away; she just is not talking, and it is killing him. He tries to take off his head to forget the memories they had together, but he can’t. He also can’t apologize. Probably because it was her fault too, and he has pride (he is a famous rocker).

And how did anyone miss HOLLOW? When the word hollow is used anywhere around any kind of rock genre, it has a drug implication. A syringe is even shown on the album cover! Pantera wrote a song called hollow (their most famous song) about a friend who did so many drugs he had nothing left.

Burt is probably saying that this chick could be hollow, just a shell of a person left after too many drugs. She could be empty (boring). She could say goodbye to everything in life. He could do all of these same things as her, but still be happy as long as they were together. He is touching on all emotion, which is why he says “forget the treasures we burned because we’ll be just fine.” …nothing tangible can equal the feelings he has with her and if they ignited all of their material possessions, they would still be fine.

Lastly, he says he hasn’t wasted a thing except his time. This is likely said because he knows she won’t speak, and he certainly won’t speak. All of the time and experiences that had with one another were a complete waste.

This song seems like a beacon of bright light because of its poppy nature, but consider that the singer admits that he didn’t mean to let a girl go (because he “lost his mind”) in Meant to Die. Instead of begging for people, he just burns.

    My Interpretation

At first, I was like, "wtf?" since this comes right after Blood On My Hands, which is entirely different in rhythm and meaning compared to this song. But really, this song is amazing. Say it sounds poppy. Say it sounds like this, or that. But you're just being butthurt. The Used have always had at least one "poppy" sounding song on their album -- even their self-titled album.

It's pretty much about a guy who loves a girl and just wants to be her everything despite the fact that he knows he's a little on the crazy side. He just wants her and him both to ignore all the horrible things in life, and go through them together. Even though it's difficult. Classic love song.

this song is pretty self explanitory but for those who are looking for what its about, its about loving someone so much that you would give up everything, be empty and hallow if it meant being with that person. Thats what i think, get back at me about it

musictomyears28, I think you've gotten it exactly! I read other people's posts and I was skeptical but yours, I think, is exactly on.

This one, Kissing You Goodbye, and Blood On My Hands are my favorite songs on this album at the moment, Kissing You Goodbye being in the lead.

    Such great lyrics.

When I hear this song, it definitely reminds me of the movie What Dreams May Come when Robin Williams goes to Hell to be with his wife. The chorus makes perfect sense with the movie.

    My Opinion

Is it just me, or is this song completely different to anything else on Artwork?

Lyrics are wrong. This is closer.

I haven't lost anything except my mind. Expect a thousand confessions that you will not find. I try to take off my head sometimes because I can't escape the memories. I haven't lost anything except my mind.

You could be empty and I can be right here empty with you or You can be hollow and I can be right here hollow with you If you want to say goodbye to everything I could say goodbye too I can be right here empty with you

Instead of going underground. Instead of calling them out. Instead of running, 'cause you're still creeping. Instead of swallowing lies. Instead of buried alive. Let's twist the knife 'til they can't stop bleeding.

If you need a confession, I'm guilty. Let's twist the knife 'til they can't stop bleeding. Do you think I feel sorry? Forgive me. Let's twist the knife 'til they can't stop bleeding.
