Drama Queen Lyrics

She is my drama queen
She is so wet and reckless
She is my drama queen
She dangles from her necklace

Daddy's little bundle of joy
Out of a magazine
Everyone's drama queen
Is old enough to bleed now

She is my drama queen
Her life is now unfolding
There goes my drama queen
What do you think she's holding?
Hey little drama queen
Did you find your savior?
Oh little drama queen
You better call a lawyer

Daddy's little bundle of joy
Out of a magazine
Everyone's drama queen
Is old enough to bleed now

Hey little drama queen
From New York to San Francisco
Everyone's drama queen
I think she's going psycho

Daddy's little bundle of joy
Out of a magazine
Everyone's drama queen
Is old enough to bleed now

She's old enough to bleed now
She's old enough to bleed now

Yeah actually i think it could have been written by mike or tre, coz i think it makes more sense with it being about a daughter than adrienne, or one of billie's sons lol. Especially because Estelle, Mike's daughter is 13, and Ramona, Tre's daughter, is 16, so the "life unfolding" plus the "drama queen" thing of being a teenager, also possibly the "old enough to bleed" (wtf btw) indicates this. cute song though XD

I'd think it's Tre's daughter, cuz she lived in New York. In the American Idiot album when Tre sings in Rock N' Roll Girlfriend, he mentions he's got a kid in New York = Ramona. :D

@miss80 i literally just made an account and accidentally thumbed down your comment. -.- im sorry!!!! i wanted to like it. ._. i didnt realise tré had a 13 yr old daughter that sounds like it could have been written about her! xxx

To me this simply just means that your daughter is growing up. The "Old enough to bleed now" just means she'll be getting hurt instead of being little, where everything was perfect in your mind. She's old enough to understand the world. To understand the cruel and ugly things, but also the beautiful things.

I love this song, it would be perfect for me and my father's dance at my wedding

Song Meaning

I dunno, a song about a girl being "wet" and "old enough to bleed" seems a little odd for a wedding.

I think it's about a girl (daughter of the narator) that is growing up, becoming a teenager. The song sort of sounds like a lullaby because while the father accepts she's growing up, he wants her to know that whatever happens, she'll still be his little girl.

She's a drama queen both for the classic baby tantrums as much as the classic "I hate my parents!" teenage tantrums. He's letting her grow up and experience things that everyone must learn at some point; for example, "You better call a lawyer" and "She is so wild and reckless" since a usual symptom of becoming a teenager is acting rebellious and sometimes getting in trouble with the law. Throughout the song you can see she experiences darker turns in life that turn her from a drama queen into a young woman "I think she's going phsyco", "From here to San Fransico" and "Her life is now unfolding" because she is experiencing the memories that will shape her into who she is.

A line that's repeated a few times is "She's old to bleed now" which I first I only thought of as "she's old enough to get her heart broken and get hurt now" but if you let it sink in a bit, you realize it may also be speaking about her period, which starts during puberty. I like to think it means both she is a teenager and gets her period and she's old enough to get emotionally hurt now.

Thanks for reading my looong interpretation!

My Interpretation

@ValEstOro Great interpretation!

I'm suprised no one's commented about this one yet. It's beautiful song, pretty much about gorwing up. I have a feeling the song is about Adrienne,or possibly maybe Joey, unless Billie didn't write it. If Mike or Tre wrote it, it might make a little more sense since they both have daughters. But overall it's a pretty song. You can find it on Green Dayauthority under downloads

The lyrics remind of Olsen twins (or ex-child-actresses in general). I know they are not of recent topics but they have been playing this song for some years now(or been keeping it up their sleeves). "Daddy's little bundle of joy" that were the Full House sisters maybe?

The part about being "old enough to bleed" kind of grossed me out.

Yeah, it did for me too...reminds of y'know, a girl growing up...and the menstrual cycle.

It's about being able to be hurt by the world, not something gross.

the lyrics are definitely ambiguous on purpose. i think its about a girl who grows up and she goes crazy and she decides to shoot up people. "You better call a lawyer. Out of a magazine" Emphasis: "she's old enough to bleed now," she's not afraid to die cause she's old enough that she doesn't care. "wild and reckless. what do you think she's holding?"

I feel like this song is about a teenager growing up. The first time they are experiencing the pressures of the real world. I thought at first that "She dangles from her necklace" was about committing suicide, and that "Daddy's little bundle of joy out of a magazine" was saying that this once "happy little girl" is now a living product of the media, that she is just like what she sees in the magazines. "Everyone’s drama queen Is old enough to bleed now." This could be saying that she is old enough to self harm now. I feel like the ending wear it repeated "She is old enough to bleed now." was saying that she is old enough to be hurt, sad, depressed and angry. That she is old enough to stop living a care free childhood that she is now a adolescent in a media ridden world. That she is old enough to feel insecure and suicidal. That "daddies bundle of joy" is now gone.

My Interpretation

The 'old enough to bleed' has a double meaning- although controversial, I think that because both Mike and Tre have daughters, it could both be about heartbreak and getting hurt AND their periods. Green Day isn't known for being discreet so I think it's quite cool they're so open about it despite the depressing meaning of the song overall.

My Interpretation

A lot of the phrases in this song (like many I hear from Green Day), seem to me to have multiple levels of meaning... a literal one and a figurative one.

For example "She dangles from her necklace" could indicate a locket with her picture or something? But also I think conveys this strong figurative feeling of fragility, sort of "hanging off a cliff", or maybe as some have said that sort of on the edge suicidal idea, supported by the lyric later "I think she’s going psycho". She's fragile and off-base some how. But yet the writer has these opposing lyrics of sentiment and nurturing.

Another one I'm surprised people don't see is that "She's old enough to bleed now" is clearly a double meaning. Figuratively it supports the idea of emotional pain, she's growing up and encountering emotional scars and fragility. But then literally, well she's also growing up and bleeding as in her period. It sounds a bit crass but Green Day isn't known for stopping at weird boundaries. Its sort of an odd coming of age song.
