Another day in this carnival of souls
Another nights ends, end as quickly as it goes
The memories are shadows, ink on the page
And I can't seem to find my way home

And it's almost like
Your heaven's trying everything
Your heaven's trying everything
To keep me out

All the places I've been and things I've seen
A million stories that made up a million shattered dreams
The faces of people I'll never see again
And I can't seem to find my way home

'Cause it's almost like
Your heaven's trying everything
To break me down
'Cause it's almost like
Your heaven's trying everything
To keep me out

'Cause it's almost like
Your heaven's trying everything
To break me down
'Cause it's almost like
Your heaven's trying everything
Your heaven's trying everything
To break me down
To break me down

To break me down
Your heavens trying everything
Your heavens trying everything
To break me, down

In my opinion, I think this is through a soldier's point of view. But I also believe it could have multiple meanings.

Another day in this carnival of souls Another night settles in as quickly as it goes The memories are shadows ink on the page And I can't seem to find my way home

Carnival of souls represent's the other troops. Days seem to go by quickly, and the "memories are shadows ink on the page" represent the fact that this soldier has been away from his family for so long that his memories are blurred and obscured, to the point that the letters he receives from his family is just "ink" on a piece of paper.

All the places I've been and things I've seen A million stories that made up a million shattered dreams The faces of people I'll never see again And I can't seem to find my way home

Being a soldier and traveling through a different country/countries and seeing or witnessing things other's who aren't in your position will never see or experience, whether it be good or bad experiences. "A million stories that made up a million shattered dreams" could imply soldiers who have lost their lives and can no longer have dreams, hopes, and ambitions of returning home. "The faces of people, I'll never see again", may mean meeting new people, whether it be other soldiers or civilians that you connected or build a special bond with, you'll more than likely never see again for whatever reason. "And I can't seem to find my way home" is pretty self explanatory, a soldier not being able to return home.

That's one of my interpretations. It could also be about acceptance and not being able to fit in with society, family or friends. "Another day in this carnival of souls", another day in this world of people who don't acknowledge "my" existence. "Another day settles in as quickly as it goes" could mean life is passing this person by, and this person continues living as an outcast. "And I can't seem to find my way home" could also mean "I" can't seem to find the place where I belong, fit in, or where "I'm" finally accepted.

Good god I love this song. Sometimes I just feel like I can't figure out or get anything right in my life. No matter what I do or who I talk to, it seems like nothing will let me. This is a ridiculous song that I just can't stop listening to.

Thinking of this album as more for the troops- It's called War is the Answer and has several obviously dedicated to them- you could almost relate this to the troops that come back and can't re-assimilate to normal everyday life. Like this:

All the places I've been and things I've seen A million stories that made up a million shatered dreams The faces of people I'll never see again And I can't seem to find my way home

and could heaven be like normal life?

Personally, I think its about a guy how has tried everything to prove their love for a girl and the girl still doesn't love them back the way the he'd hoped. And he feels alone.

But songs have many meaings and I love the one for our troops. God Bless Them. :)

Guitarist Zoltan Bathory told Metal Hammer about this song's evolution: "We'd been kicking this song around for over a year, and we did record an early version of it, but somehow we couldn't quite get it to gel. That can happen with songs — you're not sure about them to start them, and then they grow into something special, which is really what happened with 'The Bleeding'… I mean, that only just scraped onto the first album! Then Kevin (Churko, producer) heard 'Far From Home', which is kind of a ballad I guess, and he encouraged us to work on it some more, and today of course I'm really glad we did. We changed the structure, added some strings, and generally moved the track up to a whole new level."

    My Interpretation

In my opinion, this song is from the perspective of a soldier who is "far from home." When I say "far from home," I mean that it can be either a physical, mental, or emotional detachment that the person is feeling and suffering from. Although I have never served and can only imagine what a soldier may go through, these lyrics have deep meaning behind them. I have heard about instances when a soldier returns home and still feels distant from his/her loved ones. War takes a toll on everything and everyone. That's why it's great to see that this band writes awesome songs like this. I think this is a very talented band and this is one of my favorite songs by them. I also like the version with the acoustic guitar more versus the one that is all electric. Just my liking though. Two thumbs way up.

    My Interpretation

This is obviously about a solider returning home.

Most of the first stanza is speaking of the past. The first two lines represent how time is blurring, all seems the same. Same protocol... Same everything. Time is flying by, and not for good reason. The 3rd and 4th lines talk about his memories of a normal life are fading, becoming a fantasy it seems. Amist all the chaos and poverty and destruction in the Middle East, how could his normal life exist outside of this? "Ink on the page" is letters from loved ones, they are the only thing that he can still grasp to and remember what he fights for. He 'can't seem to find his way home' is him having trouble returning to normal after coming home.

The chorus is him describing how "heaven" is locking him out. "Heaven" could be many meanings, perhaps that's intentional. "Heaven" could be symbolic of home life, how it seems angelic compared to life overseas. Or he could feel like Heaven is legit locking him out for sinning. I think it has both meanings going on at once, dual wield. :)

The next stanza talks about his experiences in combat. The places he has seen is poverty and destruction. The stories and dreams are the dreams that have been crushed by the war in the Middle East. The faces he'll never see is most likely referring to the people he has personally shot or fallen comrades, or both. This is causing him to have trouble assimilating back into society. PTS stuff probably

Gadjits, The
He reuses the verse melody from the previous album's "Dirty Little Religion", the topics of the verses are all over the place, and he packs too many words into one line (goes to show...) and too few in another (it's pretty hard to find), and rhymes "Henley Regatta" with "Persona non grata", but gets away with it all as only he could.

Techno Ted
Audioslave
Techno Ted may be a person who caused Chris incredible emotional pain & trepidation as well as moments of peace & happiness but now is removed and awaiting his fate. Darling may be a different person who is also free of him and can live her life free of Ted's tyranny. "In between all the laughing, and daydreams ... lies: a desert of truth" Lies are like a desert or the omission of Truth: Where there were Lies then Truth was absent. The song, "Techno Ted", may be a cathartic celebration of the downfall of this person.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.
