Dead star shine
Light up the sky
I'm all out of breath
My walls are closing in
Days go by
Give me a sign
Come back to the end
The shepherd of the damned

I can feel you falling away

No longer the lost
No longer the same
And I can see you starting to break
I'll keep you alive
If you show me the way
Forever, and ever
The scars will remain
I'm falling apart
Leave me here forever in the dark

Daylight dies
Blackout the sky
Does anyone care?
Is anybody there?
Take this life
Empty inside
I'm already dead
I'll rise to fall again

I can feel you falling away

No longer the lost
No longer the same
And I can see you starting to break
I'll keep you alive
If you show me the way
Forever, and ever
The scars will remain
I'm falling apart
Leave me here forever in the dark

God help me, I've come undone
Out of the light of the sun
God help me, I've come undone
Out of the light of the sun

I can feel you falling away

No longer the lost
No longer the same
And I can see you starting to break
I'll keep you alive
If you show me the way
Forever, and ever
The scars will remain

Give me a sign
There's something buried in the words
Give me a sign
Your tears are adding to the flood
Just give me a sign
There's something buried in the words
Give me a sign
Your tears are adding to the flood
Just give me a sign
There's something buried in the words
Give me a sign
Your tears are adding to the flood

Forever, and ever
The scars will remain

i love breaking benjamin for this reason, songs like this could mean something to him but has many different meanings for other people, i'll go with the meaning he meant for, its from the point of view of him or someone else and they have lost their way and is screaming for help from someone they are losing, or maybe its about someone dying, personally to me this album has a theme, mainly the end of life, but life in general and how wonderful and painful it can become but at the end it doesn't matter, just like in the curious case of benjamin button, "You can be mad as a mad dog at the way things went. You could swear, curse the fates, but when it comes to the end, you have to let go." Captain Mike.

Dead star shine Light up the sky I'm all out of breath My walls are closing in Days go by Give me a sign Come back to the end The shepherd of the damned"

    • I think this is about someone who is in a state of stress and depression because the walls of stress are closing in and there's no way out. They are suffocating and screaming to their close friend/gf/bf (star shine) for help in lighting the tunnel out of their depression. But the friend has been lost in their own problems and both are screaming for each other for help. Days go by and they still are in this state of suffocation.

"I can feel you falling away No longer the lost No longer the same And I can see you starting to break I'll keep you alive If you show me the way Forever - and ever the scars will remain"

    • They know the one who can lead them out of their current state. He sees her falling away, pushing him away from her. No longer the same people they were. He gives her a choice to let him keep her afloat while she gets herself back in the boat if she'll help him back into the boat, even through the pain they inflicted on one another

"I'm falling apart Leave me here forever in the dark"

    • Or she has the choice to go on her own... to climb in the boat and leave him.

"Daylight dies Blackout the sky Does anyone care? Is anybody there? Take this life Empty inside I'm already dead I'll rise to fall again"

    • His world is crashing in and it feels like his screams aren't being heard. He's numb (empty inside), already dead, and he keeps fighting only to fail and go back down into the suffocating stress.

"God help me I've come undone Out of the light of the sun"

    • This is an obvious cry to God to help him through his troubles and to help her with her troubles. They need each other

"Give me a sign There's something buried in the words Give me a sign Your tears are adding to the flood"

    • He's crying out to her to give him the sign that will lead him out. And he knows that there is a deeper meaning than just the words she speaks. He sees through the words and to the hints she is leaving in them. Her tears are adding to the flood of his tears and they are either going to work, or she is going to leave him in the dark. But the scars of their pain will stay eternal.

This is probably one of there best songs they have ever written. It's about a man who just broke up with the girl that he thought was his true destiny. He's broken and feels as if his soul has been left dead along with the relationship. He's on his last leg and wants to give in to the darkness. All he is asking is that someone please give him a sign to hold on and not end it all. It also seems as if he was playing the role of this persons guardian angel or a savior and when he found out how many times this person fell from grace it tore him up inside each and every time. He sees how this person is truly gone from his heart and now he wants the world to just fade away and he'd rather be left in the darkness forever then to face the reality of how this person has let him down so deeply.

    My Interpretation

This song has a special meaning for me, for i lived something that could be descripited by the lyrics..

For me, it is about a relationship that is nearly on the end, The one who sings is trying to express his feelings to his lover about their own relationship: "Dead star shine Light up the sky I'm all out of breath My walls are closing in[..]"

Then he tries to tell his lover to give him a sign, to show him a way where they can solve their relationship problems:

"Days go by Give me a sign Come back to the end The shepherd of the damned"

He says to his lover that he can see that he can see that she is almost giving up on their relationship too, that she is chang towards him becaus of their problems:

"I can feel you falling away No longer the lost No longer the same And I can see you starting to break"

He then tells her that he will keep her as his lover, keep her "alive"(on his thoughts/heart), if she shows him the way "I'll keep you alive If you show me the way"

He tells her that if them break up, the scars will remain forever. She probably ignores that and goes forward in breaking up with him, then he asks her to leave him alone, "forever in the dark": "Forever, and ever The scars will remain I'm falling apart Leave me here forever in the dark"

He then sings about his own misery after the end of his relationship, and prably has suicidal thoughts because of it, trying to search for anyone who cares about him: "Daylight dies Blackout the sky Does anyone care? Is anybody there? Take this life Empty inside I'm already dead"

He is convinced to try to revive his dead relationship, but feels that it will not works: "I'll rise to fall again"

He then retries to continue his relationship with her, asking god and her to help him finding a way to do so, even if she does not see a way to be with him anymore, he probably knows that she is hiding something, that is a way "buried in the words" to solve their problems without breaking up:

"I can feel you falling away No longer the lost No longer the same And I can see you starting to break I'll keep you alive If you show me the way Forever, and ever The scars will remain I'm falling apart Leave me here forever in the dark

God help me I've come undone Out of the light of the sun God help me I've come undone Out of the light of the sun

I can feel you falling away

No longer the lost No longer the same And I can see you starting to break I'll keep you alive If you show me the way Forever, and ever The scars will remain

Give me a sign There's something buried in the words Give me a sign Your tears are adding to the flood Just give me a sign There's something buried in the words Give me a sign Your tears are adding to the flood Just give me a sign There's something buried in the words Give me a sign Your tears are adding to the flood

Forever, and ever The scars will remain"

I think this song is about losing something, but not in an easy way. It's like the other person is doing or did something that changed things way too much, but he's still choosing to try and stay with that person even though it could just hurt even more.

To me this whole song just screams out that he wants to know how to fix it all. Maybe it is a relationship gone bad, or something horribly fucked up in his life. He just wants to know how to make it right.

I believe this song is about the woman he loves turning into someone else. She's lost herself mentally. She's not at all who he started out with. He wants her to come back to him and through her emotional problems he is begging her to give him a sign that they're meant to be. He wants her to be like she was. Like THEY were. And coming to terms he can love her like she is now.

This doesn’t really fall in line with many BB songs but I think this song could be him questioning his faith after losing a loved one.
He's questioning something that no one can answer.

Love this song. Breaking Benjamin means for everyone to find their own meaning to their songs because it means something different to everyone. To me I feel it's about somebody very close drifting away and no longer caring. I can really relate to this song a lot.

To me it seems like he is down because of the other person, he/she left him or dind give him a chance, didnt care about him. But still he would do anything, even sacrifise his own life to save the other person, when he/she starts to fall apart. And he expects the other person (after using his help) to leave him alone in the dark. Its strong contrast - even in the intonation of the singer - i would do anything i can for you, but i now that youll always leave me down a you will never take care about me and i dont expect anything else of you.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
