I Stand Corrected Lyrics

You've been checking on my facts
And I admit I have been lax
In double-screening what I say
It wasn't funny anyway

I stand corrected

No one cares when you are wrong
But I've been at this far too long
To act like that when we should be
In perfect harmony

I stand corrected

Lord knows I haven't tried
I'll take my stand
One last time
Forget the protocol
I'll take your hand
Right in mine

I stand corrected

I don't think its about him being whipped, or in a shitty relationship at all.

"I have been lax In double screening what I say It wasn't funny anyway"

Sounds exactly like a poorly-chosen/delivered joke that he's fessing up to.

"No one cares when you are wrong But I've been at this far too long To act like that when we should be In perfect harmony"

Read: 'I could point to things you've done wrong too, dear, but I've been in too many relationships to think that will end well. Instead, I'll let you have this one, it was my bad, I stand corrected, can I just hold your hand again?'

"Lord knows I haven't tried I'll take my stand One last time Forget the protocol I'll take your hand Right in mine"

Ok, not too sure how this one plays out. "Lord knows I haven't tried" sounds to me like he wants to improve himself, but hasn't put in the effort. Taking his stand one last time could then mean he's hoping this will be the last time he gets called on something like this and has to stand corrected. Ain't got nothing for how he forget[s] the protocol, however.

spot on for the second verse

It's coming to the realization that you can't blindly agree with someone because of your love for them. You try to see their point-of-view and want to agree, but around your friends you are different. But you think "maybe, over time, this person will change." It's almost like meeting someone and having to sit through superficial conversations because you THINK they are pretty cool, and finding out that they really are THAT shallow and have nothing else to offer. Which makes you wrong for thinking that person could change for the better, because they were that shallow from the beginning and you were the one who changed. It sucks to be wrong about someone you really want to like, and usually it takes a while before you have to write-them-off.

You are right! I was thinking the exactly the same thing. It's feel like the song is saying that he stands corrected because he thought this person was different, but it turn out to be something completely different. That's why he stands corrected. The song has a feel of like he just realized something. Great song!

Not Valid

I think this song isn't about an argument between lovers, but rather about arguments in general. it's about accepting and especially admitting the fact you were wrong and also about moving on, so to say just forget about the fight and "be friends again".

My Opinion

I think that he loves this girl, but he can't stand the way that she can't leave anything that he says alone without finding some obscure meaning, distorting it, and holding it against him. He can't stand that she won't admit that she has her own issues. It kind of follows on from Oxford Comma, maybe? I don't know. I find that the first half of the song is really sarcastic, but when he "forget[s] the protocol" he wants to just let everything go, and just be with her. He wants to ignore her constant nagging, and her inability to be wrong. Maybe he can.

i guess it's about girl who is worrying much about him to be observing the etiquette and breeding. and he just wants to be himself so he acts as he wants to. And she always corrects his actions and words and he is very irritated with it. He wants her just to "forget the protocol" and to pay no attention to the conventionalities

i think its about the classic chase of love.. he and his one true are in love but at different times, a common theme- oxford comma. he trys, but...

i think its about a friend (or love interest) that has a habit of always correctiong people and showing their own intellectual superiority. he understands that it isnt really the person's fault, but it still makes him feel stupid. i have that same annoying habit of always correcting people and wanting to be right and this song made me stop and think before i corrected anyone.

this song is a somewhat desperate ultimatum. the beginning of the song is the beginning of the relationship where he likes her so much he just wants her nagging "You've been checking on my facts" to end "I admit I have been lax." He's just saying that to get her off his back so he can focus on her qualities that he likes. The second verse is the middle of the relationship and by now he is brainwashed to this woman. Her constant nagging and nitpicking have left him an unconfident wreck. The first line he points out her own shortcomings ("No one cares when you are wrong"), but then is immediately punished for going against her will because in the next lines he is apologizing for it and placing all the blame on himself (saying it's his fault for causing tension and by now they should be in perfect harmony). The last verse is the end of the relationship. Apparently in the time between the second and last verses, the singer has grown a backbone. Its obvious he likes this woman, but her annoying nagging quality overpowers his feelings for her. This last verse is one of the most meaningful in the song.

"Lord knows I haven't tried" = He's tried his best to keep the relationship together and learn to deal with her bad qualities

"I'll take my stand, One last time" = He's finally had enough, ultimatum time. It's either stop her nagging or he's gone

"Forget the protocol I'll take your hand Right in mine" = This is what he hopes will happen. That for once she'll stop judging and correcting him and they can just forget all the rules and bindings of their relationship and simply be themselves. It's clear the singer still wants the relationship to work, but were not quite sure how it ends. Personally, I think he breaks up with her because of that final "I stand corrected" line at the end, which kind of is the sad line from earlier.

couldn't it be like when you like someone, and you have to stand everything he/she does... even bad things. But you don't want to lose him/her, that's why you "stand corrected"... you act like nothing happends.... you try to show your best and you keep you emotions inside...

i love the end of the song when he finally says Forget the protocol I'll take your hand Right in mine

i think it's like saying: i'm done with pretending... i dunnooo, like, getting it off his chest?

I think that he said something jokingly (it wasnt funny anyway) that she took wrong and overreacted. she then wanted nothing to do with him so to keep her as a friend/lover he apologizes by standing corrected. It happened to me once but she still didnt care.
