The Bucket Lyrics
You'll be the one to always complain
Three in the morning, come a-bang-bang-bang
All out of fags and I just can't wait
Cancel the thing that I said I'd do
I don't feel comfortable talking to you
Unless you got the zipper fixed on my shoe
Then I'll be in the lobby drinking for two
Golden, fallen heart
Fresh off the plane in my fuzzy rush
Everyone's gathered to idolize me
I hate the way you talk, your Japanese scream
It's been too long since I've left the shed
You kick the bucket, I'll swing my legs
Always remember the pact that we made
Too young to die, but old is the grave
Golden, fallen heart

actually, I read that caleb wrote this song about jared. It makes a lot of sense. They were touring a lot, and jared's the youngest (eighteen). It's basically caleb's observations about jared (how he's dealing with the fame), and the things that would get on his nerves. look at it in the context of the song, "I'll be the one to show you the way, you'll be the one to always complain. three in the morning come a bang bang bang, 'all out of fags and I just can't wait.' " another clue is in the last verse when he says "I hate the way you talk, your japanese scream." not only is jared known for his girly laugh...the first bass he played was japanese. but at the end of the day, as cliché as it may be, it's about brotherly love, "always remember the pact that we made. too young to die, but old is the grave."
that's my two cents. call me obsessed. but kol are the best band ever.

This is the song that got me into KOL. My mate was playing it one night in his flat and that was it... I was hooked.
Shame everyone thinks they like them now though thanks to Sex on Fire. It's completley different to the songs on the previous three albums

when i first heard it i thought it was about teenage suicide with the whole "you kick the bucket and ill swing my legs" "always remember the pact that we made, too young to die, but old is the grave"
but apparently caleb wrote this song about jared(his younger brother and the youngest of the band) who was turning 18, its about how he was coping with touring from calebs point of view.
man oh man this is an excellent song- caleb is pure genius-not to mention SEX AND STYLE GOD!

I always thought that this song was about suicide; 'You kick the bucket and I'll swing my legs' the feeling of being hanged!
@bladesmad I don't personally think so, but I can see where you are coming from. The rest of the lines more reflect a partying mentality rather than a life out of control and spiraling towards suicide IMO.

this songs about alot of things getting to you and turning you into a different person and how you don't like this person you've become.

It's definetly about needing home or thinking about the old times whilst they are living the so called dream.
there's just too much damn pressure for 'em!
ooh heart_breaker, that is very eerie.. but it could make sense along with what goldenfallinghard (of course they'd comment on this song!) said- if they ever catch themselves acting like ego's then one of the group has got to help them out.
i love the line 'japanese scream' so clear and amusing..

I don't know if any of you have seen that German interview that Jared did. But, it's one of my favorites. I bring it up because Jared mentions that whenever they have a song with particularly deep (or even disturbing) lyrics, they try to come up with a happy melody to go along with it -- because it results in an unexpected, bittersweet effect. The opposite is true if they have happy lyrics etc. etc. I think The Bucket is a pretty good example of that technique. The lyrics are clearly serious, but the melody -- while maybe melancholy -- isn't as serious.

Been too long since I left the shed. Referring to Woodshedding (practicing) So, they're always practicing.
Is that cousin to waterboarding? Just curious 'cause I have NO clue what your post is about, yet you magically (Hmmmm) received a thumbs up rating ;)
