So this has been.my favorite song of OTEP's since it came out in 2004, and I always thought it was a song about a child's narrative of suffering in an abusive Christian home. But now that I am revisiting the lyrics, I am seeing something totally new.
This song could be gospel of John but from the perspective of Jesus.
Jesus was NOT having a good time up to and during the crucifixion. Everyone in the known world at the time looked to him with fear, admiration or disgust and he was constantly being asked questions. He spoke in "verses, prophesies and curses". He had made an enemy of the state, and believed the world was increasingly wicked and fallen from grace, or that he was in the "mouth of madness".
The spine of atlas is the structure that allows the titan to hold the world up. Jesus challenged the state and in doing so became a celebrated resistance figure. It also made him public enemy #1.
All of this happened simply because he was doing his thing, not because of any agenda he had or strategy.
And then he gets scourged (storm of thorns)
There are some plot holes here but I think it's an interesting interpretation.
I got a razor sharp mind that wants to cut you down.
A little place in mind and baby I could let you down.
Pony up, we got a ways to go.
Set me up my friends are running low.
Oh, oh, oh
If you take my hand I'm gonna get you outta here.
The crush of bottles break another swinging chandelier.
In a round of bullets and blood and smoke,
I saw the midnight come and I watched her go.
Oh, oh, oh
In a round of bullets and blood and smoke,
I saw the midnight come and I watched her go.
Yeah I watched her go.
I watched her
I watched her go.
I watched her go.

I think its about random hookups. you meet someone at a bar and the mental game that ensues... pony up to the bar and toss down the shots "Set me up my friend, I'm running low" could be the only line in the song directed to the bartender the rest of the lines pertain to the girl/hookup.
still stumped by the line "In a rain of bullets and blood and snow" unless it defines moment leading up to and then climax...?
that was my take on it.
nice, i got the interpretation. as for "in a rain of bullets and blood and snow"...it sounds like a sex scene: bullets being skin slapping thrusts, blood rushes to genitals during intercouse, snow as semen...haha
@Lmr119 just on that ‘round of bullets…’, sex often being referred to as ‘rounds’. So it could suggest he’s had a round, reached climax and she’s left. <br />
FIRST! No idea what it means but I like it.
i adore this song, i sounds kind of gay and i know its not intentionally been made for it but it reminds of like james bond, know what i mean? just listen to again great song though
caleb has stated in a couple of interviews that a lot of the lyrics on cas he adlibbed, so a couple of songs might have no meaning or have a couple of meanings, i dont think its going to have any set meaning, but i could be wrong
"I got razor sharp mind that wants to cut you down
A little place in mind maybe I could bed you down Pony up, we got a ways to go Set me up my friend, I'm running low
Oh, if you take my hand I'm gonna get you outta here The crash of bottles breaking and the swinging chandelier In a rain of bullets and blood and snow I saw the midnight coming and I watched her go
In a rain of bullets and blood and snow I saw the midnight come and I watched her go Yeah, I watched her go I watched her
I watched her go"
I think this song is about his experience at a bar or party where he is trying to bring a girl home with him. He says he has a "razor sharp mind" in that he is clever and that he is trying to think of ways to "bed you down" as in sleep with her. When he says "pony up we got a ways to go" he is saying that he is far from getting her to come home and he needs to get to work. I think he means a bar in the sense that he wants the bartender to "set me up my friend im running low" as in he needs another drink to help him out. The second verse he is describing a wild scene from the bar or since he says "breaking bottles and swinging chandelier" makes me think it possibly could be a house party... either way it is a wild drinking scene and in the midst of the wild night he loses track of her or he loses her attention and she leaves.
