We R Who We R Lyrics
If you’re one of us then roll with us
‘Cause we make the hipsters fall in love
And we’ve got hotpants on enough
And yes of course because we’re running this town just like a club
And no, you don’t wanna mess with us
Got Jesus on my necklace
Stockings ripped all up the side
Looking sick and sexy-fied
So let’s go-o-o (Let’s go!)
Tonight we’re going hard
Just like the world is ours
We’re tearin’ it apart
You know we’re superstars
We are who we are!
Our bodies go numb
We’ll be forever young
You know we’re superstars
We are who we are!
It’s about damn time to live it up
I’m so sick of being so serious
It’s making my brain delirious!
I’m telling you ’bout the s– we do
We’re sellin’ our clothes, sleepin’ in cars
Dressin’ it down, hittin’ on dudes (HARD!)
Stockings ripped all up the side
Looking sick and sexy-fied
So let’s go-o-o (Let’s go!)
DJ turn it up
DJ turn it up
DJ turn it up
Just like the world is ours
We’re tearin’ it apart
You know we’re superstars
We are who we are!
Our bodies go numb
We’ll be forever young
You know we’re superstars
We are who we are!
I know a lot of people who don't like Kesha. But if you like her or hate her she is supporting all the teenages that are gay and get bullied for it everyday, shes telling them to only be themselves. shes a fantastic roll model
i so agree with you bc my cousin hates her and i went off on her and told her she actually had to get the meaning of here songs to like her ya some of her songs are bout clubbing and patying but some are bout other things(:

I personally find Kesha sort of a bad role model. But some of her songs do have more meaning that may be inspiring. I just don't like the way she gets the message through in her songs.

Kesha wrote this song in response to the increasing spike of teen suicides especially about LGBT youth. Overall, this song aims to say teenagers should be proud of themselves for who they are.
First Verse: The poem explicitly begins with saying teen suicide is really a "hot and dangerous" issue. "If you're one of us, then roll with us" implies that not every teenager is alone and that they should unite. Distinguishing feeling of "us" implies there is a group of people who are different from normal society. "We make hipsters fall in love" Hipsters is a symbol of independence, individuality. not conforming to norm, and being one with nature. To make them "fall in love" is to mean we make them proud and inspired. Homosexuality is not a choice, we are born with this gift from nature, and we are making them proud connecting to themselves of their true nature. "And we've got hotpants on enough" Pride in their creative qualities and fashion tastes. "And yes of course because we're running this town just like a club" {araphrase: we are going to party in this normal society and enjoy our lives. The act of "running this town" suggests they are going to influence or change the normal society thinks. "And no, you don't wanna mess with us" Paraphrase: Society and the norm is not going to push us around anymore. "Got Jesus on my necklace" Being able to accept their true natures bring them closer to faith and God. Or being it a blasphemous act suggests we shouldn't give a toss what religion says.
And pretty much the rest of the song focuses on partying hard.
Repetition of "You know we're superstars, We are who we are!" means they are going to party hard, enjoy life, be proud and feel special, because they know their true selves.
I agree with cooltoonist's meaning for the song but I think anyone can relate to it. What I'm saying is the meaning could just as easily be about everyone just needing to be themselves and if they do that they'll be happy

I'm hoping you're being sarcastic, because if you are then this is hilarious.

Her intentions may have been to encourage gay teens to just 'be themselves.' But, this reading of the lyrics is just one of a host of vague interpretations that simply praise trashy dance-floor partying. Whatever she meant by it, the video doesn't support this interpretation, and I don't believe that this interpretation is well supported by the lyrics.

"Hot and dangerous" is placed in the context of her and her crew "rollin'". It does not explicitly refer to teen suicide as "hot and dangerous" unless the song is otherwise assumed to refer to teen suicide. Nothing in...

"hotpants" are no more a gay fashion taste than they are an 80s-throwback fashion item for pop-obsessed teens.
"Got Jesus on my necklace" is the only interesting piece of imagery in the song. Clearly, Christians have historically been linked with bullying of homosexuals, so if the song is about bullying, it would appear that she is opposing that tendency, either saying that she's a Christian and cool with it or that gay Christians can still be proud of both.
I just don't think the evidence clearly supports the OP's conclusion, though a homosexual could easily take that positive message from the song.
Hot and dangerous If you're one of us, then roll with us Cause we make the hipsters fall in love when we've got our hot pants on and up And yes of course we does we're running this town just like a club And no, you don't wanna mess with us Got Jesus on my necklace
"And yes of course because" isn't it "And yes of course we does" ? x
Yes, you're right. wtfxkimmm has the correct lyrics.
Yes, you're right. wtfxkimmm has the correct lyrics.
yes it is "and yes of coarse we does"
yes it is "and yes of coarse we does"
I thought the same thing
and I'm pretty sure it's "hot pants on and up", too...
yep you're right too.
yep you're right too.
It's being proud of who we are as a person as a member of the teen LGBT community I really take this song to heart. It makes me feel proud!
It's simply about being who you are and not care about anyone who hate and party hard being who you are.
Speechless.
I really don't know what to say.
Alright, alright. Pop princess may have said those were what her words meant, but think about it. Why would she want the media to know she's doing shit she's not supposed to be doing. Think of it a little like this.
Line one: Hot and dangerous When rolling on ecstasy you get really hot due to the increase in body temperature. Dangerous = the drug. Line two: If you're one of us, then roll with us Term when tripping on ecstasy is called "rolling" Line three: Cause we make the hipsters fall in love When rolling on ecstasy you get the extreme desire to love everyone and anyone. You just want to feel loved. Line four: And we've got hot pants on enough, And yes of course because we're running this town just like a club Raves AREN'T CLUBS! Clubs are legal, raves get raided out. Line five: And no, you don't wanna mess with us, Got Jesus on my necklace You don't mess with people on drugs. They just might slip you something. Line six: I've got that glitter on my eyes Stockings ripped all up the side Looking sick and sexy-fied So let's go-o-o (Let's go!) All about dressing up obviously. When raving you usually wear your sluttiest apparel. And the glitter flashy colors just make you all that much more cool. Line seven: Tonight we're going hard Best way to party so you're doing it hard style Line eight: Just like the world is ours We're tearin' it apart You know we're superstars We are who we are! This is all about feeling confident about yourself. When you're rolling you think you are the baddest shit that's ever happened to the world. Line nine: We're dancing like we're dumb You may think you're hot shit, but the way you dance ain't that pretty and you look retarded from a sober's eyes. Line ten: Our bodies go numb Side-effect of ecstasy Line eleven: We'll be forever young You know we're superstars We are who we are! Usually only younger generations do this drug, and you dance like you've never danced before. You're on your feet for hours and you're wondering where it's all coming from. Line twelve: DJ turn it up It's about damn time to live it up I'm so sick of being so serious It's making my brain delirious! One, at least twenty different DJ's tearing up raves. Rolling on ecstasy you feel better then you've ever felt before. You don't care you're there to have a good time. You don't even care about if you loose your possessions. Just as long as you're having fun. Line thirteen: I'm just talkin' truth I'm telling you about the shit we do As well as most drugs, you're more likely to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing, but the truth. Line fourteen: We're sellin' our clothes, sleepin' in cars Dressin' it down, hittin' on dudes (HARD!) Like I said you just don't care, and the rest of the song I already explained. Trust me, I love Kesha. I have absolutely nothing against her. That's just how I see the song. If you don't like it, well I don't care. However, it does make sense and you can't even disagree about that.
are you serious????
