Tall, dark, and Superman
He puts papers in his briefcase and drives away
To save the world or go to work
It's the same thing to me
He's got his mothers eyes, his father's ambition
I wonder if he knows how much that I miss him
I hang on every word that you say
And you smile and say, "How are you?"
I'll say, "Just fine"
I always forget to tell you
I love you, I love you forever

I watch superman fly away
You've got a busy day today
Go save the world, I'll be around
And I watch superman fly away
Come back, I'll be with you someday
I'll be right here on the ground
When you come back down

Tall, dark and beautiful
He's complicated, he's irrational
But I hope someday you take me away and save the day, yeah
Something in his deep brown eyes has me singing
He's not all bad like his reputation
And I can't hear one single word they said
And you leave, got places to be and I'll be okay
I always forget to tell you I love you
I loved you from the very first day

I watch superman fly away
You've got a busy day today
Go save the world I'll be around
And I watch superman fly away
Come back, I'll be with you someday
I'll be right here on the ground
When you come back down

And I watch you fly around the world
And I hope you don't save some other girl
Don't forget, don't forget about me
I'm far away but I'll never let you go
I'm lovestruck and looking out the window
Don't forget, don't forget where I'll be

Right here, wishing the flowers were from you
Wishing the card was from you
Wishing the call was from you

'Cause I've loved you from the very first day

I watch superman fly away
You've got a busy day today
Go save the world, I'll be around
Forever and ever here
I watch superman fly away
I swear, I'll be with you someday
I'll be right here on the ground
When you come back down

La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la
When you come back down

I originally thought it was about her dad, but as I got further down the lyrics I realised that it couldn't possibly be about her dad with lines like.. "Something in his deep browns eyes has me sing- Hes not as bad like this, reputation"

I personally think that this one is also about John Mayer. I love these little insights into her life, amazing songwriter.

    My Interpretation

I agree. John Mayer, definitely. But aside from WHO it's about, WHAT it's about...well I see it as a song dedicated to a man she idealizes, and sees as untouchable. She puts him on a pedestal, he is her "Superman" and worships him, secretly, silently, and wants to someday, tell him how she feels.

    Lyric Correction

so just a lyric correction-- in the last verse, i don't think it's "and i watch you fly around the world, and i hope you're texting some other girl." that doesn't really make sense. i've listened to it a bunch of times and i think it's "and i watch you fly around the world, and i hope you don't save some other girl."

    other comments?

i LOVE this song, btw. i think yall are right and it's probably about john mayer, but i wish it weren't because i don't like him but i like this song so much!!!

    Song Meaning

I think it's about a girl who admires a guy who is hard working and very busy. He's out doing what he's bond to do in life and being successful at it. He has the determination and will just as it says when she quotes "He's got his mothers eyes his fathers ambition". Even though he's really busy and she misses him, she knows he doing the right thing in life and she will be there waiting for him when he's accomplished what he needs to accomplish or when he's done "saving the world" in her perspective.

i think that's really cute since a lot of young girls these days go for guys who are lazy and get whatever they want without hard work. this girl is falling in love with someone who a little out of her reach because of his every day hectic life style which is different to her and she considers him her "Superman"

Yep, its def about John Mayer. I didn't think so at first either, but she keeps saying: "i loved you from the very first day", and in Dear John thats the secret message in the lyrics. i love these insights too, and it really makes me wonder who she's still in love with. joe? john? taylor? all of her songs to them on this album are raw and sweet.

    My Interpretation

At first I thought this song was about her younger brother, Austin with: "I always forget to tell you I love you I loved you from the very first day" ~She loves him from the first day he was born? Maybe? "I watched superman fly away You've got a busy day today To save the world ill be around I watched superman fly away" -or- "And I watch you fly around the world I hope you don't forget about me" ~About how her busy life keeps them from seeing each other, but she loves him and misses him. ...Then again I can see it being about Mayer too... but it'd be better about her brother.

I believe this song is about his father. Pretty apparent in this part: "He puts papers in his briefcase and drives away To save the world or go to work" And then here: "I wonder if he knows how much that I miss him" Because he is always at work

"And I know every word that you say, yay You smile and say how are you I say just fine"

Is when his dad goes home from work and he just ask her how she is then do work or go to sleep

I always forget to tell you, I love you, I love you ... forever

A usual dad-daughter scenario that they weren't able to talk much and they didn't have moments to talk about how they love each other.

"I watched superman fly away You've got a busy day today To save the world I'll be around I watched superman fly away Come back I'll deal with you someday I'll be right here on the ground When you come back down"

There again. His father going to work, probably even traveling to different places.

"And I hope you don't save some other girl I hope you don't forget about me"

Well, she's his daughter. Like don't forget you have a daughter, Don't forget that I'm your daughter. So please don't have another girl and leave me.

"'Cause I loved you from the very first day."

Well, the first guy we could love from the very first day on earth would probably be our dad.

I love this song. I can relate to it so much. But it makes me cry because I feel how much I miss my father, too. :(

Wow, these Gnostics need to be committed. She is having a delusional affair with a demon or warlock she thinks is Superman. An Übermensch/Superman is someone with godlike powers. Ya know, the powers Satan promised to give as the "S"-erpent in Genesis 3:5, "Ye shall be as God." It isn't even funny that in the Tanakh/Old Testament the Hebrews who complained mana FROM HEAVEN wasn't good enough, so God made them look upon a brazen snake that is supposed to foreshadow Jesus. Jesus is the only snake (wisdom) we are to look upon. All other wisdom is false wisdom, and isn't from heaven. We need journalists to ask these people pointed questions about their beliefs because they are a couple of tarot cards short of a full deck.

Love in a Vacuum
'Til Tuesday
Well, in my opinion this song is about being a young & maybe a little naive &/or introverted girl and finding yourself loving a man who is at first very charming, carefree & outgoing, and seems at first to be without limits, as in "There was a time you opened up every doorway you didn't mind if everything wasn't your way" then that man starts to gradually become more introverted & shows their more possessive/obsessive side to you as the relationship progresses, even while they keep up the appearance of being carefree & outgoing to everyone else, "Don't pull away that goes against what you told me I look in your eyes I realize what you've sold me is love in a vacuum" so you confront them about the way they're acting and of course they deny it, "I think you've changed but you insist that that's not true" quite possibly they are an addict of some sort, my guess would be cocaine, &/or showing very obsessive behavior towards you (early on in the video for this song we see the man hanging a picture up, it is a very large portrait of Aimee & it is prominently displayed in his/their apartment for the duration of the song), thus their "love in a vacuum", "You look so strange, so distant that you're hardly you Now I can see how you have been acting different You say it's me but I know that it isn't it's love in a vacuum" but still you are in love with them and don't want to leave them and you know that they are truly in love with you and they don't want you to leave them either, maybe they are convinced you can save them from themself, maybe they are so broken that the possibility of an overdose &/or suicide attempt is very real and you want to get through to them that their behavior not only dangerous but it is also just pissing you off and if they don't wise up they run the risk of loosing you, as in the lines "You will be lonely if you leave me alone", so you want to save them but can't get through to them due to the addiction &/or emotional problems they have, "Love in a vacuum and that's not enough love in a vacuum You will be lonely you'll be the only one who feels this way You will be lonely if you leave me alone You will be lonely you'll be the only one who feels this way it's just not enough" you want them to understand that the love they are giving you is not enough when it is filtered through the vacuum of their drug addiction &/or emotional impairment, "You will be lonely you'll be the only one who feels this way it's just not enough and just wait you will be lonely Love in a vacuum Love in a vacuum and that's not enough Love in a vacuum". 'Love In A Vacuum' for me is a hauntingly truthful acute argument on the loneliness of obsession and almost inevitable loss of love that follows people who are broken in some way or another; the obsessives, the coke heads, the drunks, addicts or the just-plain-old emotionally broken; a razor sharp, lyrically driven, deceptively poppy, yet ultimately-depressing-in-the-best-way song. Quintessential Aimee Mann.

Warren wanted a Beach Boys thing for this one, and Carl Wilson and Billy Hinsche came in, with Carl arranging the vocal parts. The other harmony vocalists (credited as the "Gentlemen Boys") were Jackson Browne, J.D. Souther, Zevon's longtime backers Waddy Wachtel and Jorge Calderon, and Linda Rondstadt/Stone Poneys guitarist Kenny Edwards.

Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
