Summertime Lyrics

When the lights go out
Will you take me with you?
And carry all this broken bone
Through six years down in crowded rooms
And highways I call home
Is something I can’t know 'til now
'Til you picked me off the ground
With a brick in hand, your lip gloss smile
Your scraped up knees and -

If you stay
I would even wait all night
Or until my heart explodes
How long?
Until we find our way
In the dark and out of harm
You can run away with me
Anytime you want

Terrified of what I’d be
As a kid from what I've seen
Every single day
When people try
And put the pieces back together
Just to smash them down
Turn my headphones up real loud
I don't think I need them now
‘Cause you stop the noise and -

If you stay
I would even wait all night
Or until my heart explodes
How long?
Until we find our way
In the dark and out of harm
You can run away with me
Anytime you want

Well, anytime you want
Well, anytime you want
Don't walk away
Don't walk away
Don't walk away

'Cause if you stay
I would even wait all night
Well, or until my heart explodes
How long?
Until we find our way
In the dark and out of harm
You can run away with me
You can write it on your arm
You can run away with me
Anytime you want

I think that this beautiful song is about Gerard's relationship with his wife. Their reunion on the Projekt Revolution tour is where they began their romance and yes, it was summertime. Near the end of the song the lyrics, "You can write it on your arm" appear. During the tour, you can find pictures of the two on stage with their own bands, but they've got messages written on their arms that correspond with each other. I think they're a really adorable pair and they're good for each other. (not to mention their daughter is too cute!)

I think you're definitely right. In reference to the messages on their arms, at one point Lyn-Z wrote 'Run away with me' and Gerard wrote 'Anytime you want'. I think this proves for sure what this song is about!

'Turn my headphones up real loud / I don't think I need them now / 'Cause you stop the noise and--' I believe this refers to something I heard in a recent interview where he says that in making this album he discovered that it was okay to feel happy and to be colourful and that a lot of it was down...

Wow. That's very cool. Nice info. Yes, they're adorable. Genius rock artist and smashing punk bassist.

This one of my faves, besides 'Party Poison' and 'SING!'.

This is one hell of a song for them.

My Opinion

Yea I definitely agree. If this song is given proper single treatment, I think it could really be huge. These lyrics are definitely not correct but it's too hard to hear everything he says to make all the corrections but we can definitely wait until the lyric comes out.

I can say this song made a huge impact in my life and made me realize a lot. The first time I listened to it I was about to lose my girlfriend because of my self distructive behavior and the more she tried to help me the more I got away. That night I listened to it a million times because I realized that I was losing one of the most important and meaningfull things I ever had for what? Darkness and solitude? It was a kick in the ass that took me out of the loop I was in.

I agree that this is an amazing song, and aside from telling the story of Gerard's relationship with his wife, it appears to relate to the Killjoys storyline. 'Six years down in crowded rooms' may be referencing underground nuclear fallout shelters, which following the Great Fires of 2012 (which could have been a nuclear war of some sort) would have been the home of many people for years. 'Highways I call home' I think references where the Killjoys were forced to live their lives after the ruined cities of California were brought under the control of Better Living Industries. 'Terrified of what I'd be, As a kid from what I've seen' is also referring to the Great Fires; obviously meaning that Gerard witnessed the Great Fires as a child and was uncertain of his future in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. However, spite the grim setting in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, it is a beautiful song about Gerard and his wife. It's become mine and my girlfriend's song :) (yes, I have time to for a relationship as well as sadly pointing out the literal meanings of a song meant for a much different purpose!)

My Interpretation

^^I'm totally agreed with both of you. This song is incredible. There is one thing lyrically that sticks out really hard to me thought– I'm pretty sure it's "If you stay, I would even wait all night, or until my heart explodes." And it makes more sense that way...

this is a beautiful song and after listening to it over and over again i still don't get why it hasn't received much airplay...

i forgot exactly where i read it, but one time i read that lyn-z way (gerard's wife) had the words "run away with me" written on her arm, and gerard had "anytime you want" written on his neck. that's how he came up with the lyrics. i think it's a really cute song. ♥

That's impossible, Gerard Way is afraid of needles so he has no piercings or tattoos. He said this in the making of 'Helena' vids. Although it is possible Lyn-Z has the tattoo. :)

But I do agree, this song is both Lyrically and Musically amazing. It is somthing I take very personally, as it reminds me of my best friend who has now moved away for Uni. I love her <3

"written" could be with a pen/marker, not necessarily a tattoo

Terrified of what I'd be As a kid from what I've seen Every single day when people shock And put the pieces back together Just to smash them down Turn my headphones up real loud I think I need them now 'Cause you suck the noise out

I think this part refers to gerard and living in jersey and people that bullied him but when he started the band and found lyn-z he didnt need to be scared of what he will become anymore
