You've been on my mind
I grow fonder every day
Lose myself in time
Just thinking of your face
God only knows why it's taken me
So long to let my doubts go
You're the only one that I want

I don't know why I'm scared
I've been here before
Every feeling, every word
I've imagined it all
You'll never know if you never try
To forget your past and simply be mine

I dare you to let me be your, your one and only
Promise I'm worthy
To hold in your arms
So come on and give me the chance
To prove I am the one who can walk that mile
Until the end starts

If I've been on your mind
You hang on every word I say
Lose yourself in time
At the mention of my name
Will I ever know how it feels to hold you close
And have you tell me
Whichever road I choose, you'll go?

I don't know why I'm scared
'Cause I've been here before
Every feeling, every word
I've imagined it all
You'll never know if you never try
To forget your past and simply be mine

I dare you to let me be your, your one and only
I promise I'm worthy, mhm
To hold in your arms
So come on and give me the chance
To prove I am the one who can walk that mile
Until the end starts

I know it ain't easy giving up your heart
I know it ain't easy giving up your heart
Nobody's perfect
(I know it ain't easy giving up your heart)
Trust me I've learned it
Nobody's perfect
(I know it ain't easy giving up your heart)
Trust me I've learned it
Nobody's perfect
(I know it ain't easy giving up your heart)
Trust me I've learned it
Nobody's perfect
(I know it ain't easy giving up your heart)
Trust me I've learned it

So I dare you to let me be your, your one and only
I promise I'm worthy
To hold in your arms
So come on and give me the chance
To prove that I am the, one who can walk that mile
Until the end starts

Come on and give me the chance
To prove that I am the one who can, walk that mile
Until the end starts

I absolutely love "21" and every song on it, but "One And Only" simply caught me and took my breath away. It's not only that it describes the situation I'm going through at the moment perfectly, it's not only the song itself, it's not only Adele's voice. It's just pure love and absolutely perfect. Could listen to it all day long :)

Tonight at Hammersmith Apollo, Adele said she has realised the guy she wrote this song about is a "complete dickhead." She said this is the only song on 21 NOT about her ex-boyfriend, and their relationship. Adele said that although she always pictures the ex-boyfriend when singing the other songs, she can't bring herself to think of the "dickhead" when she sings this song, so she dedicated this song to all the people in the audience who really love someone. At the end, she admitted she did think of the dickhead after all, but she was thinking about punching him in the face. :)

Wow, only one comment! Just got this gem off of iTunes the other night. I've knew of Adele, just didn't follow through with hearing her first album. Anyway, was loving every song and this came on, and I was like "wow", I was blown away. Her voice, tone, delivery spot-on and strong. Love, love, love the interlude w/ the choir. Her band is tight too.

It is a simple love song, but written from someone who has been burnt many times before. When you start falling for the person, you start to freak out and try to resist those feelings to protect yourself from potentially getting hurt again. Start to question if they feel the same way about you, will they be there through the good/bad/inperfections of self, and then finally giving in and taking a chance on love.

She is a refresing breath of air in music today compared to the drek on radio.

It's a really intense song. For me the song speaks of how in her mind she has already lived and felt what it would be like to be with that guy and now she just want's it to be real. "... every feeling every word, I've imagined it all."

But ultimately she's asking him to take a chance on love. It's all or nothing... but I hope you choose to give it your all. And "I promise I'm worth it.."

When the song first came out there was debate over whether the lyrics were, "until the end starts" or "until the end of time". Is it definitely "until the end starts"? That's what it sounds like and what I'm seeing everywhere- just wanted to make sure.

Beautiful song! One of my Adele favourites..

It talks of someone who is beginning to have feelings for a man and she wonders why it took her so long to open up and let herself feel something..

She's urging the man to join her and take the leap of faith (in love) Daring him to take a chance in love...

    My Interpretation

Here's another crazy whouffle shipper explanation (I'm on a role!) For those of you who don't know, whouffle is the ship name for the characters of the Doctor and Clara (Oswin) Oswald from Doctor Who. And for those of you who still haven't the foggiest what I'm talking about, I'm sorry. I'm so, so, so, so, sorry (you will also miss that reference.)

So, proceeding with my explanation (and before people attack me, yes, of course I know that this song is in no way about the Doctor and Clara, it just makes my little shipper heart happy to do this, okay?!)

You've been on my mind, I grow fonder every day, Lose myself in time, Just thinking of your face, God only knows why it's taken me So long to let my doubts go, You're the only one that I want,

Both Clara and the Doctor are growing fonder and fonder of each other, but both of them are really afraid to admit it. Their romance is kind of an unofficial thing, because the Doctor, as Clara says, "would rather die than say it," and Clara doesn't really express her feelings openly either. But they really do want each other.

I don't know why I'm scared, I've been here before, Every feeling, every word, I've imagined it all, You'll never know if you never try, To forget your past and simply be mine,

Now, those last two lines are what I'm focusing on. The Doctor is really scared to love because of all the terrible things that have happened to people he loved in the past. He needs to learn to let go of that past.

I dare you to let me be your, your one and only, I promise I'm worthy, To hold in your arms, So come on and give me the chance, To prove I am the one who can walk that mile, Until the end starts,

This is really Clara speaking here. She wants to be the one he trusts, but unfortunately, he is never open with her. She's proved that she's trustworthy and will always do what he says, she doesn't wander off like the other companions always did and as he says, she's always exactly what he needs. But still, he hasn't opened up to her fully.

If I've been on your mind, You hang on every word I say, Lose yourself in time, At the mention of my name, Will I ever know how it feels to hold you close, And have you tell me Whichever road I choose, you'll go?

The Doctor definitely has her on his mind-- for the majority of the season he's trying to figure out the mystery behind her. And he really does hang on every word she says, just completely mesmerised by her. But again, trust and intimacy issues.

And you know, blah blah the rest.

Thank you for indulging this crazy little shipper, and please do not hate me!

Techno Ted
Audioslave
Techno Ted may be a person who caused Chris incredible emotional pain & trepidation as well as moments of peace & happiness but now is removed and awaiting his fate. Darling may be a different person who is also free of him and can live her life free of Ted's tyranny. "In between all the laughing, and daydreams ... lies: a desert of truth" Lies are like a desert or the omission of Truth: Where there were Lies then Truth was absent. The song, "Techno Ted", may be a cathartic celebration of the downfall of this person.

Fortnight
Taylor Swift
The song 'Fortnight' by Taylor Swift and Post Malone tells a story about strong feelings, complicated relationships, and secret wishes. It talks about love, betrayal, and wanting someone who doesn't feel the same. The word 'fortnight' shows short-lived happiness and guilty pleasures, leading to sadness. It shows how messy relationships can be and the results of hiding emotions. “I was supposed to be sent away / But they forgot to come and get me,” she kickstarts the song in the first verse with lines suggesting an admission to a hospital for people with mental illnesses. She goes in the verse admitting her lover is the reason why she is like this. In the chorus, she sings about their time in love and reflects on how he has now settled with someone else. “I took the miracle move-on drug, the effects were temporary / And I love you, it’s ruining my life,” on the second verse she details her struggles to forget about him and the negative effects of her failure. “Thought of callin’ ya, but you won’t pick up / ‘Nother fortnight lost in America,” Post Malone sings in the outro.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
