Goodbye
Goodbye
Goodbye, my love

I can't hide
Can't hide
Can't hide what has come
I have to go, I have to go, I have to go
And leave you alone

But always know, always know, always know
That I love you so
I love you so
I love you so, oh

Goodbye, brown eyes
Goodbye for now
Goodbye, sunshine
Take care of yourself

I have to go, I have to go, I have to go
And leave you alone
But always know, always know, always know
That I love you so,
I love you so, oh
I love you so, oh

La lullaby
Distract me with your eyes
La lullaby
la lullaby
Help me sleep tonight

La lullaby (la lullaby, la lullaby)
I have to go
I have to go
I have to go
And leave you alone

But always know, always know, always know
That I love you so
I love you so
(Goodbye)
(Lullaby)

I love you so
(Goodbye)
(Lullaby)
I love you so
(Goodbye)
(Lullaby)

I love you so
(Goodbye)
(Lullaby)
I love you so
I love you so
I love you so

Goodbye, brown eyes
Goodbye my love

To me, it's not JUST about a couple breaking up. To me, it's about someone dying and having to say goodbye to their loved ones.

And on the breaking up note, yeah. I definitely identify with that right now.

This is my favorite song off the new album. (: Um, to me it's basically all about breaking up with someone but you're so in love with them and care about them. it's not that easy.

It's probably about her ex husband.

    Song Meaning

Honestly, to me, this song doesn't mean breaking up, notice how she says she will always be there for him. I think, at least this is what it means to me, this song means she has to leave, and she doesn't want to but no matter what she is still going to love him. I can REALLY identify with this song, and it is one of my favorites, as I am going to move to a different state away from my boyfriend. I can't hide the fact that I have to go, but I will always love him, and someday we will be together. I know how it feels when she starts to sing about lullabies and distracting myself from what is happening because it hurts me and him so much. I also listen to music before I go to sleep because I get so upset and it's one of the only things that calms me.

idunno, ihate sounding so emotional in a comment....this song just means a lot to me.

I can so relate to this. Loving someone so much and yet you just have to let them go. Reassuring them that the love is there to stay despite having to say goodbye.

    My Opinion

I don't think it has to be about a couple breaking up. Maybe it is a couple, but she has to go away for a while. It does say "Goodbye for now." But it is a lullaby, and it makes me think of a parent saying goodbye to a child before leaving work, etc. It doesn't specify that she's going to be gone for a long time, just "for now." There's definitely an element of the separation hurting (distract me with your eyes/rhymes) but I feel like a lot of people a too quick to assume that everything is a love song/break up song/death song. Even so, this song reminds me every time I hear it that I'm eventually going to have to go to college, and so will my boyfriend, and we won't be able to be together and it breaks my heart. But then I just think of it as someone saying a temporary goodbye to someone she loves, just for a few hours or days.

    My Opinion

This is probably the best song on Goodbye Lullaby. I love it. It's beautiful and dark. Reminds me of Avril's other song, Naked.

    My Opinion

To me this song is all about how she had to breakup with her boyfriend/husband, because it's for the better. She knows it's what's best because they aren't made for each other. However, love never dies and she will always love him no matter what.

I can relate to this song because my boyfriend and I were so incredibly happy, we had nicknames for each other like Sunshine and he has the most gorgeous brown eyes. But during the end of our relationship we constantly fought and in the end he was annoyed with me. So the best thing for me to do was walk away from the relationship because he already done so. I let him know I always love him and will never get over him. He'll always be my sunshine even ever the things we said to each other...

Going by the music video, she has aranged to meet her fella at a nice hotel for a romantic evening and he didn't turn up and left her standing their like a idiot and how sad she feels that he has let go like this instead of telling her civily and you can tell in the video she is thinking ' well this is it really its over, time to move on'

cheap move really, i'd love to have avril lavigne in a hotel room

    My Interpretation

This song is all about departure from the Earth and saying goodbye to his/her loved ones.

After hearing Avril talk about it on the Goodbye Lullaby DVD, it sounds like it's about Deryck. But I agree, it can be interpreted in many different ways.

For me, this describes my relationship with my ex. We were constantly fighting, and though we were good for each other in many ways, we were also terrible. We're still best friends, and I still love him with all of my heart. So despite saying goodbye to our relationship and the romantic love, I hope he always knows that I love him so.

I don't know. This just hits me hard because it's so achingly beautiful and relevant.
