Bluebird Lyrics

How the hell does a broken heart
Get back together when it's torn apart
Teach itself to start beating again

This little bluebird came looking for you
I said that I hadn't seen you in quite some time
And this little bluebird she came looking again
I said we weren't even friends
She could have you

Don't you think it was hard
I didn't even say that you died
But it wouldn't have been such a lie
Cause then I started to cry

This little bluebird sure won't give it a rest
She swears that you may be better than all the rest
I said no you've got it all wrong
If he was something special I wouldn't have this song

And don't you think it was hard
I didn't even say that you died
But it wouldn't have been such a lie
Cause then I started to cry

How the hell does a broken heart get back together when it's torn apart
And teach itself to start beating again
What if when she she comes over I am in your arms
Taking all i want from you again

How the hell does a broken heart get back together when it's torn apart
And teach itself to start beating again
How the hell does a broken heart get back together when it's torn apart
Teach itself to start beating again
Beating again

This little bluebird won't come round here anymore
So I went looking for her
And I found you

This song is lovely!

I have a different interpretation. The 'little blue bird' is her heart The little bluebird 'just won't give it a rest, she swears you may be better than all the rest', meaning it wont give up the person she loves.

Her head 'logical self' answers saying 'I said no, you've got it all wrong'

At the end...there's no sign of the bluebird = meaning her heart is missing So her head searches for it 'I went searching for her' When she finds her heart, she finds him 'I found you'....Meaning he has her heart!!!!!!!!!!!

ahh!!! see i knew there was something deeper... and i had a hunch but you figured it out!! i got goosebumps allover when i read your comment! :)

For me the bluebird is really another woman that is in love with guy the girl in the song used be with. And about the part when she says "I didn't even said that you died" I think what she means is that this is what she wanted to say, because she doesn't wants the guy to stay with the bluebird, probably because she is still broken hearted and would like him to suffer, and because part of her wanted to stay with him, even though he is not worth it. .

So basically, to me, the song is about that part when you don't want to get back with someone, because you know it won't work, but you still kind love him. And I think during most part of the song she could have gone back to him if she wanted, and that's why the bluebird is always around, to make sure that she is not with him. Also, this situation, of sometimes cogitating to get back with the guy, makes the girl in the song feel guilty, you can notice this in the part "What if when she comes over I am in your arms. Taking all I want from you again". And she feels specially guilty for having reassured the girl that they were over "And this little bluebird she came looking again. I said we weren't even friends. She could have you", even though she is not a 100% sure of it.

But in the end I think what that last part means is that the Bluebird got the guy and they switched places, 'cause know she was the one who had to look for the Bluebird, which means it is to late for her, if she decided to get the guy back.

My Interpretation

Me, of course, I always used to picture the situation sung of in the song. Funnily enough, as a child, I always pictured the "bluebird" as a girl.... strange. I love this song...

I love this song so much. I waited so long for her whole album to come out and I was so excited when it finally did. The song is pretty self-explanatory to me but that's just me. She is imagining losing her love to another girl. The girl comes over looking for the guy and Christina tell her they don't even talk anymore and painfully lets him go in a way. She imagines the two being happy together after he broke her heart. Then when the girl stops "coming over", she goes out looking for her and finds the guy. This song is so beautiful and easily gets stuck in your head. I love it. :D

ok so i was thinking the same thing about this song's meaning, but there's this line that doesn't make any sense. the line goes "I didn't even say that you died". who died here? someone whom the girl (singer) love?

I don't think anyone died, because after that she says:

"But it wouldn't have been such a lie"

So I'm thinking that maybe he doesn't talk to her anymore, or can't find him, or something along those lines. So if she told the girl that he died, it wouldn't really be that much of a lie because he's kicked her out of his life.

But that's just my interpretation.

^that makes sense too, but the way I saw it was as a reference to the saying "you're dead to me."

i agree that the song is about her "bluebird" or heart nagging her, in a sense, about this boy. The girl, for some reason, doesn't' believe that he's the right guy for her, even though she seems sad about losing him. The only part I'm confused about is the line "And don't you think it was hard, I didn't even say that you died." ...? Is this being literal, like the boy actually died, or is there some other interpretation? Because to me the rest of the song doesn't give the impression that he's dead, so it's kind of confusing to me. Or else I'm just missing something. haha.

My Interpretation

the song is about a girl who loved another guy, and the lover turned out not being what the girl expected. Another girl is falling for the guy though, and since she knows Christina loved him before, she's asking her for advice. Christina tells her that if she really loves the guy, she can be with him, since she "doesn't love him anymore." By the "don't you think it was hard, I didn't even say you died, but it wouldn't have been such a lie cause then i started to cry," she means that just talking about him made her cry, as if he was dead. Even though to her he is dead because either he changed, or she just imagines him dead in her head in order to forget him. It does not mean he really is dead though. The girl that now wants the guy thinks he's different from the rest, but Christina lets her know that if he really was special, she wouldn't have written such a sad song about him. Christina is thinking on getting him back, since the things the girl says about him make her feel like he never changed. After awhile the girl stopped going to Christina to get information from the guy, so she was wondering where she went; she found out the girl ended up with the guy.

Hope I helped xx
