Would've been in doubt that this to started out
That everything would turn out this way,
First it was a phone call then it was another
From a mother who was ready to play
She said things that no one ever told me before
How could I have known that she wanted to settle the score?

Then a man came in I can probably see it
And it looks like you're having fun
But when I get back, you're gonna be bleeding
So I think son you'd better run
Now I think I should be leaving
'Cause it looks like I've got enough
She was a deceiver, but I had to believe her
When she told me she was in love
(She told me she was in love, she told me she was in love)

I am gonna rock and fix it just another minute
But I guess it was a minute too late
I know he was coming and I should have been running
If he'd caught me I would never escaped
Now I know it never should have been a surprise
How could I have known that she was only telling me lies

'Cause a man came in I thought you were leaving
But I see you're still having fun
But when I get back, you're gonna be bleeding
So I think son you'd better run
Now I see I should be leaving
'Cause it looks like I've got enough
She was a deceiver, but I had to believe her
When she told me she was in love

Don't blame me,
It's not my fault,
Don't blame me,
I'm not the one

'Cause a man came in I thought you were leaving
But I see you're still having fun
But now I am back back, you're gonna be bleeding
So I think son you'd better run
Now I see I should be leaving
'Cause it looks like I've got enough
She was a deceiver, but I had to believe her
When she told me she was in love

She told me she was in love

    My Interpretation

I think it's about a dude having an affair with an older woman who uses him to get back at her cheating husband.

I would have been in doubt when this just started out that everything would turn out this way At first it was a phone call, then it was another from a mother who was ready to play And she said things that no one ever told me before But how could I have known that you wanted to settle a score

Then a man came in, I can finally see it and it looks like you're having fun But when I get back you're gonna be bleeding so I think son you better run And now I think I should be leaving cuz it looks like I’ve had enough And she was a deceiver but I had to believe her when she told me she was in love

I knew I could fix it in just another minute but I guess it was a minute too late I knew he was coming and I should've been running, if he caught me I would never escape And now I know it never should've been a surprise But how could I have known that she was only telling me lies

Cuz a man came in, I thought you were leaving but I see you're still having fun And now I'm back and you're gonna be bleeding so I think son you better run And now I see I should be leaving cuz it looks like I've done enough She was a deceiver but I had to believe her when she told me she was in love

And don't blame me, it's not my fault And don't blame me, and I'm not the one

    My Opinion

    Great song!

It's basically "Wake Up Call" by Maroon 5, post-grunge style

Warren wanted a Beach Boys thing for this one, and Carl Wilson and Billy Hinsche came in, with Carl arranging the vocal parts. The other harmony vocalists (credited as the "Gentlemen Boys") were Jackson Browne, J.D. Souther, Zevon's longtime backers Waddy Wachtel and Jorge Calderon, and Linda Rondstadt/Stone Poneys guitarist Kenny Edwards.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer

In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.
