Run For Your Life Lyrics
Broke the same bread
Wore the same clothes and we said
We're sisters with nothing between
If one of us falls
The other will soon be following
You don't know why
One of you never woke up
And you laid by her down on the floor
You're desperate to hear her footsteps again
But this house is on fire
We need to go
Run and you don't give up
With all that you are,
All that you want
I will be close behind
Run for your life
And that terrified you
You swore that you'd never lose your control
Baby let yourself go
'Cause part of you hides
And I know the hunger inside of you is strong
You can only hold back the river so long
Oh, you don't have to go it alone, go it alone
Run and you don't give up
With, all that you are
And all that you want
Run for your life right now
And if you don't know how
I'll come back with you
Take all that's true
And leave all that's burnt behind
Run for your life
Go it alone, go it alone,
Run and you don't give up
All that you are
All that you want
Run for your life right now
And if you don't know how
I'll come back with you
Take all that's true
And leave all that's burnt behind
Run for your life
Seventeen years by her side Broke the same bed Wore the same clothes and we said We're sisters with nothing between If one of us falls The other will soon be following
There are two sisters that had been together for 17 years, who shared what they had, they meant a lot to each other, they had an amazing bond.
Both of you fell the same day You don't know why One of you never woke up And you laid by her down on the floor Desperate to hear her footsteps again But this house is on fire We need to go
Maybe there was a fire, both the sisters fell down but only one got back up because the other sister passes away and the alive sister was stricken with grief, Desperate to hear her footsteps again, she didn't want to believe her sister was dead.
Oh, you don't have to go it alone, go it alone
She doesn't have to deal with the grief herself because there are other people who will support her
Run for your life my love, Run and don't give up With all that you are, All that you want I will be close behind Run for your life
There is someone to support her, Run for your life my love, a boyfriend perhaps? He will follow her but she has to run and keep on going. Run and don't give up, hes telling her to stay strong and just keep on pushing through the hard time.
She had a fire inside And that terrified you You swore you'd never lose your control Baby let yourself go It's part of your height And I know the hunger inside of you is strong You can only hold back the river so long
He knows shes trying to stay strong and not show her emotions. You can only hold back the river so long, she has to cry to let her grief out and she wont be able to hold back the emotions and tears.
Run for your life right now And if you don't know how Come back a few Take all that's true And leave all that's broke behind Run for your life
He is once again telling her to run basically to keep moving and never stopping to stay strong and if she doesn't know how to continue to think and remember all the good memories but leave behind all the hurt and pain.
So the song is about two sisters but there is a tragedy and one sister dies the other sister doesn't know how to continue or how to cope, but her family member or her boyfriend is there to support her and says you dont have to go it alone meaning i will be here for you through this horrible time, but you have to run for your life so keep on going and stay strong. You can only hold back the river so long, she should try and come to grip with the fact her sister has passed away even though it is hard she should cry and let her emotions go. Take all thats true and leave all thats burnt behind, let the horrible memories go and focus on all the beautiful memories she had with her sister. This is just what i think though :P
In all honesty, this song reminds me of The Hunger Games series. Yeah, I said it. If you've never read it, and plan to someday, leave, because I plan to spoil some stuff. Sorry =(
I find this song to be about Katniss and Prim. In particular, the two sisters in Mockingjay. They have survived starvation and oppression together and have always had the other to count on. Prim lives in hand me downs ("broke the same bed/wore the same clothes") from her older sister. When Prim's name is drawn during the reaping, Katniss volunteers to take her place. She is putting Prim's life above her own in the most selfless act a person could commit. Then the lyrics say "both of you fell the same day/you don't know why/but one of you didn't wake up/and you laid your body down on the floor/desperate to hear her footsteps again/but this house is on fire/we need to go" SPOILER ALERT This is exactly how Katniss reacts to the death of her sister in the final book. She shuts down. She has no where else to go, nothing to live for. The one person she had been essentially living for is gone. Every where she turns there is the ghost of her sister and there's no escape. The only way she can survive is with Peeta by her side, which is where I find the chorus coming in. He is always there for Katniss and he helps her by planting a bush of primroses by their house. He helps her cope with this devastation. "Run and don't give up" is also one of the stronger messages portrayed throughout the series. Keep going. Stay strong. Fight for your life. Finally, there's the lines, "and i know the hunger inside of you is strong/you can only hold the river back so long" it reminds me of the fire inside Prim. She wanted to become a doctor, was always there with wisdom beyond her years. She had an inner strength to be there for others and a compassion that was basically the death of her. Her final act was helping injured Capitol children on the front lines of the rebellion war. She had a need to help others. A drive that was inspiring.
That's what I hear when I listen to this song. The story of two sisters who lived life through one another, did anything for the other and have to fight against all odds to stay strong without having the other one there with them.
This can be a bit of a long-shot, but I actually don't think this song is about two friends or two sisters. I interpret it as a girl who's going through a tough time in life, especially with her faith. I think this song is another song with a Christian perspective.
"Seventeen years by her side Broke the same bread Wore the same clothes and we said We're sisters with nothing between If one of us fall The other will soon be following"
I think this is about a girl who is Christian and has had a good life this far; she trusts God, believes in Him and knows that without help of God, things wouldn't go so well.
"Both of you fell the same day You don't know why One of you never woke up And you laid your body down on the floor You're desperate to hear her footsteps again But this house is on fire, we need to go"
She's hit by a crisis without a warning (death, a turn in life or something else that's evil), and suddenly it doesn't feel as bright anymore and she feels as if God has abandoned her. She's maybe even ashamed of herself and blames herself for not trusting God enough. She's afraid of what has happened and tries to get her faith back. The crisis haunts her and she tries to cure it with her faith as she always has done, but it doesn't work.
"Oh, you don't have to go it alone, go it alone
Run for your life, my love Run and you don't give up With all that you are All that you want I will be close behind Run for your life"
I think the chorus is God assuring her that he's with her even if things feel horrible. He tells her to run away from the evils that haunt her, to not give in not matter what and be sure that He's with her through it all.
"She had a fire inside And that terrified you You swore that you'd never lose your control Baby, let yourself go 'cause part of you hides And I know the hunger inside of you is strong You can only hold back the river so long"
The crisis that hit her was stronger and more severe than she expected and she's so scared of the feeling and that it'll never be alright again. She tries to get the crisis under control since it's suffocating her, and she's afraid of what will happen if she don't. God tells her to relax, that the way she's handling it brings out the worse in her and this is not how He wants her to act. She has maybe lost all her will for life right now but God knows it's buried under all of her sadness and fright. He will take care of it for her since He promised her He would.
This is only my interpretation and it can be WAY off what it really means, but I wanted to share anyway. :) Cheers!
*I'm italian, I apologize for mistakes :)
I think this song is not only about 2 sisters, as it might seem, but it's about 2 great friends, who have a friendship this big that they do everything together. One day one of them made something by herself, and the other one is so angry with the first one, that she feels like in a house on fire. So she runs away from her friend, hoping for her to go back on her steps and apologize for what she made. In the end they are no longer friends :(
'Broke the same bed' -> 'Broke the same bread'
Surely it's "broke the same bread" not "bed" !!!
This song is about two very close people/ or sisters who have been through everything together and have been beside each other through thick and thin. What happens to one happens to the other. "if one of us falls, the other will soon be following" So something happened to one of them (died/or something else traumatic) and it affected the other just the same. And I think the one sister is up in heaven telling the other one to run, that her life has fallen apart but that it doesn't have to be this way and she is still beside her.
Another great song from The Fray!
Another great song from The Fray!
This also reminds me of the Hunger Games. This also contains SPOILERS if you have not read the books. The lyrics that stand out to me the most is: Both of you fell the same day You don;t know why One of you never woke up And you laid your body down on the floor You're desperate to hear her footsteps again But this house is on fire, we need to go This reminds me of when Katniss is trying to take down the capitol and she sees Prim trying to help the injured children, when the bombs go off. Prim and Katniss both catch on fire, but only Katniss survives and she goes crazy after Prim dies, because she just wanted to protect Prim.
The only issue is the 'seventeen years' part at the beginning. Prim was thirteen when she died, if I'm not mistaken.
