So this has been.my favorite song of OTEP's since it came out in 2004, and I always thought it was a song about a child's narrative of suffering in an abusive Christian home. But now that I am revisiting the lyrics, I am seeing something totally new.
This song could be gospel of John but from the perspective of Jesus.
Jesus was NOT having a good time up to and during the crucifixion. Everyone in the known world at the time looked to him with fear, admiration or disgust and he was constantly being asked questions. He spoke in "verses, prophesies and curses". He had made an enemy of the state, and believed the world was increasingly wicked and fallen from grace, or that he was in the "mouth of madness".
The spine of atlas is the structure that allows the titan to hold the world up. Jesus challenged the state and in doing so became a celebrated resistance figure. It also made him public enemy #1.
All of this happened simply because he was doing his thing, not because of any agenda he had or strategy.
And then he gets scourged (storm of thorns)
There are some plot holes here but I think it's an interesting interpretation.
This is wrong but
I can't help but feel like
There ain't nothing more right babe
Misty morning comes again and I can't
Help but wish I could see your face
And I knew from the first note played
I'd be breaking all my rules to see you
You smile that beautiful smile
And all the girls in the front row scream your name
So dim that spotlight, tell me things like
I can't take my eyes off of you
I'm no one special, just another wide-eyed girl
Who's desperately in love with you
Give me a photograph to hang on my wall
Superstar
Good morning loneliness
Comes around when I'm not dreaming about you
When my world wakes up today you'll be in another town
And I knew when I saw your face I'd be
Counting down the ways to see you
And you smile that beautiful smile
And all the girls in the front row scream your name
So dim that spotlight, tell me things like
I can't take my eyes off of you
I'm no one special, just another wide-eyed girl
Who's desperately in love with you
Give me a photograph to hang on my wall
Superstar
You played in bars, you play guitar
And I'm invisible and everyone knows who you are
And you'll never see, you sing me to sleep
Every night from the radio
So dim that spotlight, tell me things like
I can't take my eyes off of you
I'm no one special, just another wide-eyed girl
Who's desperately in love with you
Give me a photograph to hang on my wall
Superstar
Sweet, sweet superstar

Classic love story true to his western tx roots. One of my favorites as a story, but I think there are alot of songs that are amazing not even listed on this site. I guess I should figure out how to add them, because I have about 8 REK cd's.

Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.

Van Halen
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Hayalperest
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere.
In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.
i can totally relate to this song.<3 cuz i got a huge celeb crush(: it's my fav song from her deluxe version "fearless"!
To me, the meaning of this could be a few different things. Obviously it could just be about a famous person that you are in love with, but it could also be a crush. Someone you idolize and put up on that pedestal, so this could have two meanings. Again, just someone you can't have, but still long to.
It should be "Good morning loneliness comes around when I'm not dreaming. . ."
I like to think about this in the other way. The boy doesn't have to be everyone elses' Superstar, but maybe just to her.
This song is so sad and sweet and lonely, and she sings it beautifully.
So, this is going to be far fetched. but what if it is about joe jonas. how do we know it was written when she was 14/15? some of the other songs like come in with the rain and untouchable we know were written when she was younger because she had already peformed them live but we never heard superstar before this rerelease. so lets say this is her post breakup song about joe jonas. the reason i think this is because it sounds like she has had a relationship with the person who the song is about, by saying 'this is wrong by i cant help but feel like there aint nothing more right babe' doesnt seem like somehting you say about a stranger. and i think its post break up because of lines like 'id be breaking all my rules to see you'. and its sarcastic, at points like ' give me a photograph to hang on my wall, superstar" i think she is making fun of his ego, and saying im no one special you are this superstar, when really she is a superstar, bigger than him... i dont know, just my thoughts.
she didn't write the song untouchable. The band Luna Halo wrote it, she just covered it. and in her album when they say she wrote they just mean she changed the melody a bit.
I think it's about a famous person she had a crush on. Just a beautifully, sad song. It actually reminds me of something from 70's or something. So deep and heartbreaking.
I relate to this song in a different way. For a year, I had a really big crush on a soccer player at school who was gorgeous and popular and had a lot of girls who liked him, and I always felt like he would never notice me or care if he did, because I was just like the rest of the random chicks who crushed on him. This song is basically exactly what I felt for him. "I'm no one special, just another wide eyed girl...". If only I'd heard it then to help me get through it, LOL.
I don't think that this is necessarily literally about a celebrity. I think it's about a guy who's popular or older than her.
"I'm no one special, just a wide-eyed girl who's desperately in love with you."
She's daydreaming about him from afar, because she knows her chances with him are slim. She puts on a pedestal, like a celebrity. Like a crazed fan, she's wild about him, but has to accept that he'll probably never feel the same way.
"So dim that spotlight, tell me things like, 'I can't take my eyes off of you.'"
She wants to know what he's really like underneath it all. Even though all the girls are after him for his looks/athletic ability/whatever, she really wants him to "dim the spotlight" so she can know the real guy underneath his act.
okay this may be far fetched but this song is something secretive that probably no one knows the subject/influence is... but i'm thinking (remember this is far fetched) that it MIGHT be john mayer. i know i know it's crazy but when i read the lyrics and also the hidden message that said, "I'll never tell." it reminded me of when they first met and also when they did a couple of songs together. the fact that this one is saying how popular the guy is compared to her and how he plays in bars and smiles his perfect smile just makes me feel like MAYBE they had a secret relationship....
The song is about Martin from Boys Like Girls.

I agree with you, I totally think it's about John Mayer. Especially since she repeatedly hints that she has loved John from the beginning. John is a lot older then her. She could have had a crush on him at 14/15 and wrote this. In Superstar she says "loved you from the very first day" and in Dear John the secret message is "loved you from the very first day". And,in superman she has a lyric that says "'cause I loved you from the very first day". Also, in this song, she says "and I knew from the first note played, I'd be breaking all my rules to see you" and "and I knew when I saw your face I'd be
counting down the ways to see you" in Dear John she talks about how everyone warned her against him. In Superman, she talks about him being away and her not wanting him to fall in love with someone else.

It fits.
This song is about day dreaming about a superstar. its from your point of view whatever superstar you dream about being with
i definitely agree its not about Joe..i would say it was written when she was younger and less known..going by the fact that in the song hes more well known than her..and well nowadays there isnt a great deal more people more well known than Taylor Swift...so i agree with Roseanne13..its about her younger self having a crush on a massive celeb..x
I think this is deffinatly about the breakup with Joe Jonas or right before the breakup when things were heading downhill. To me, there's clues in the song about Joe. It talks about the morning and morning lonliness a few times and I've heard in a past interview from Taylor that when she got up in the morning she'd try for their relationship being over to not be all she thought about. Also, the 'breaking all my rules to see you' seems obvious it's about him and not about wishing she could be with a superstar. Just an idea, but as the album says she'll never tell so we'll never know for sure! It's such an amazing sad with such a sad element to it.
it's not about Joe because Joe doesn't play in a bar. and I think it's someone that was famous when she was still not found yet. I read over the lyrics again and it is definitely that one singer she crushed on when she was younger.
