Cold Case Love Lyrics
Dark and I'm burnin' a rose
I don't need proof
I'm torn apart and you know
What you did to me was a crime
Cold case love
And I let you reach me one more time
But that's enough
Oh, oh
But I needed a witness
Oh oh
So wake me up when it's over
It don't make any difference
Oh oh
Will it ever be solved?
Or am I taking the fall?
Truth was there all along
Tell me how did we miss it
And it got the best of us
And now prints, pictures, and white outlines
Are all that's left at the scene of a crime
Of a cold case love
But love-blinded eyes couldn't see, no
And then I tried to cage it
But your love ain't the kind
That you can keep
Release me now 'cause I did my time
Of this cold case love
My hearts no longer cold and confined
I've had enough
Oh, oh, oh
But I needed a witness
Oh oh
So wake me up when it's over
It don't make any difference
Oh oh
Will it ever be solved?
Or am I taking the fall?
Truth was there all along
Tell me how did we miss it
And it got the best of us
And now prints, pictures, and white outlines
Are all that's left at the scene of the crime
Of a cold case love
Took this too far
Now I'll never find the pieces of my heart
We've lost enough
Looking for a truth
That was here all along
And it got the best of us
And now prints, pictures, and white outlines
Are all that's left at the scene of a crime
Of a cold case love
And it got the best of us
And now prints, pictures, and white outlines
Are all that's left at the scene of a crime
Of a cold case love

This is probably the best song on the album and the best song Rihanna has ever done. Nice job! I love this song despite it's length of 6 minutes (not really a fan of songs over 5 minutes long).
Anyways: the lyrics are pretty easy to decipher. She is not only talking about a failed relationship but she is talking about a near-abusive relationship. I mean breaking up with someone is not a "crime"...in this relationship she seemes to have suffered some great hardships.

justin timberlake wrote this and its supposed to be about the abusive relationship she was in with chris brown. i have never been abused in my life but this song still gives me chills just because i can't imagine how horrible that would be. its also just a really beautiful song.
I'm don't think this song was meant by Justin to be interpreted literally as a recounting of Rihanna's abusive relationship with Chris Brown. However, listening to it it is hard not to visualize her bruised and bloody face as captured in the LAPD's evidence photo that was leaked shortly after she was assaulted.

And yeah, it is a hauntingly beautiful song.

This is about relationships and interactions. When its good its good and its "love" when its over its bitter and its "cold" This relationship is on trial, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Should they have started it? shouldn't they have? She seems to be mainly battling ith the duality of the totality of the relationship,, weighing out the goods and bads and seeing if she (the judge and jury) feels it was worth it. Whatever the case it's over and hopefully they can learn from the situation.
My personal favorite off this album.

This song sounds kind of like "cocaine love" when she sings it. I think one of the things everyone is missing is "white outlines". Yes, this could mean like a crime scene, but I believe that this whole event that was caused between the two of them was fueled by drug addiction. My brother was a bouncer in SF and he saw her straight do a rail of cocaine in front of everyone. So I tend to listen for drug references.

about a million years ago i connected to this song massively, now i know why...i was destined to be abused

this is the best song off "Rated R"

I recently got out of an abusive relationship n let me jus say it is one ofthe hardest experience a woman can endure it feels unfair and painful for a woman to suffer jus becuz a man is not content with himself it is painful to see the person you love hurt u over n over again but it's more painful to realize how blind love can be u want to believe so much in this person only to discover in the end that They dnt wan help n tat maybe they will never change this song is a beautiful song not only bcuz it describes the feeling so well but bcuz it's perfectly written out everytime I listen to it my heart breaks allover again but then again it inspires u to stay strong bcuz this too shall pass

i'm really proud of her for this one..great song indeed

This song is the ultimate "leaving an abusive(physically or emotionally) relationship song". I can relate, and I completely get what she's saying. It's basically saying, you really messed me up, everything you did to me was so bad it should be (or is) a crime. It's that feeling you get when you look back at a really sour relationship, you're nostalgic but you can't help but regret wasting all that time and being stupid enough to keep it going all that time.

this is basically all of her relationship with Chris Brown. I'm suprised no one else has recognized this.
