Have you lost your way?
Livin' in the shadow of the messes that you made
And so it goes
Everything inside your circle starts to overflow
Take a step before you leap
Into the colors that you seek
You give back what you give away
So don't look back on yesterday
Wanna scream out, no more hiding
Don't be afraid of what's inside
Gonna tell ya you'll be alright
In the aftermath
Anytime anybody pulls you down
Anytime anybody says you're not allowed
Just remember you are not alone
In the aftermath
You feel the weight
Of lies and contradictions that you live with every day
It's not too late
Think of what could be if you rewrite the role you play
Take a step before you leap
Into the colors that you seek
You give back what you give away
So don't look back on yesterday
Wanna scream out, no more hiding
Don't be afraid of what's inside
Gonna tell ya you'll be alright
In the aftermath
Anytime anybody pulls you down
Anytime anybody says you're not allowed
Just remember you are not alone
In the aftermath
In the aftermath
Before you break you have to change your own mind
Take a trip and fall into the pit
Tell a stranger that they're beautiful
So all you feel is love, love
All you feel is love, love
Wanna scream out, no more hiding
Don't be afraid of what's inside
Wanna tell you, you'll be alright
In the aftermath
Wanna scream out
No more hiding
Don't be afraid of what's inside
Gonna tell ya you'll be alright
In the Aftermath
Anytime anybody pulls you down
Anytime anybody says you're not allowed
Just remember you are not alone
In the aftermath
In the aftermath
(Gonna tell ya you'll be alright)

This song for me is about coming out of the closet and accepting yourself for who you are. A lot of his songs seem to be related to that, but maybe that's just my gay bias.
this song is about coming out of the closet, it hits so deep on that note.. about all the trials and pain you go through while your in the closet, and the urge to be yourself. to just remember that your not the only person who has ever felt this way. but i guess it could apply to other things, but considering Adam Lambert himself is gay...

This song I think is about coming out of the closet and showing the people your true colours, those that accept you are your friends and those that don't are just a charade. He's trying to tell us to show ppl who we really are, what we are and he's always going to stand by us no matter what.
I'm pretty sure it's about comming out of the closet and knowing that your not alone in it all :)
Quoted from Adam himself
"[“Aftermath”]...was written about finding the courage to be honest with yourself and the people who love you. It's about facing adversity and taking risks in the name of personal liberation. The song takes on different meanings to different listeners. I hope this song inspires people to be who they truly want to be..."
It's about all the trials and errors you encounter in your everyday situations of life accepting yourself and basically saying you have to go through these things with yourself before you can truly see things/people for what/who they are.
I love this song! It's so uplifting. I think with Adam singing it, it's meant as a gay-themed "be comfortable with your homosexuality" thing, but in general it can just be that you're not the only one, you can admit how you feel about anything.
I love this song.. so powerful
I think this song is meant to appeal to all the people who didn't fit in when they were in high school, be it because they were glbtq or because they were just different--this song is very much a message to keep your hope up and to not give up no matter how bad stuff sucks right now. I've thought of this song a lot lately in respect to the extreme cases of bullying throughout the US that have resulted in deaths of many teenagers. So, so sad. :(
