This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines:

I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

the art of a good song is it can mean anything to anyone..to me this is about getting hurt by someone that doesnt love you but wants to still be close..but you cant. The time goes by and you've got a lot to learn..tells me the person the song is about is innocent / immature in life. "the hearts not inside..i gotta find the one thats just right" means you dont love me (heart = love) i have to find someone that will (tin man is looking for a heart or LOVE)

This song is amazing. This whole album is incredible.
Love this song, my thoughts on its lyrics are that it's about a person looking for a true friend/lover/whatever, a person to be close to and to trust. But after finding out the person he's talking about in this song is not the one, and the heart isn't there, he goes off to search for another person. Like the Tin Man from The Wizard of Oz, he's looking for a heart.
