Dance, it's all I wanna do, so won't you dance?
I'm standing here with you, why won't you move?
I'll get inside your groove 'cause I'm on fire, fire, fire, fire
It hurts when you get too close, but, baby, it hurts
If love is really good, you just want more
Even if it throws you to the fire, fire, fire, fire

All the lovers that have gone before
They don't compare
To you
Don't be frightened
Just give me a little bit more
They don't compare
All the lovers

Feel, can't you see there's so much here to feel?
Deep inside in your heart you know I'm real
Can't you see that this is really higher, higher, higher, higher?
Breathe, I know you find it hard, but, baby, breathe
You'll be next to me, it's all you need
And I'll take you there, I'll take you higher, higher, higher, higher

All the lovers that have gone before
They don't compare
To you
Don't be frightened
Just give me a little bit more
They don't compare
All the lovers

Dance, it's all I wanna do, so won't you dance?
I'm standing here with you, why won't you move?
Even if it throws you to the fire, fire, fire, fire, fire, fire

All the lovers that have gone before
They don't compare
To you
Don't be frightened
Just give me a little bit more
They don't compare
All the lovers

Instead of 'don't be running' it's 'dont be frightened' (frightened to replace running)

Also instead of 'lying next to me' it's 'You'll be next to me' (You'll be replacing lying)

Also it's 'Going higher, higher...' instead of 'Really higher, higher...' (going replacing really)

I think it's about two people being to afraid to make their love and feelings for each other public, but one of them is telling the other that they shouldn't be afraid because they love each other and that's all that matters, not what everyone else thinks.

I also think that the one telling the other not to be afraid is also saying how much more important the other person is to them than anyone else they have ever been with, that they are different and special compared to everyone else, maybe that they are an exception to everyone else.

This song and video are fantastic! I love the concept of the video and it is really well made! WHITE, a white horse, a white piggeon, it shows innocence, unity, love, purity, hope, everything! People are almost naked, kissing each other, showing everybody is equal, straight, gay, bi, whatever, just LOVE! Very classy! Well done to everybody involved! One of the most-beautiful and sensual videos ever made! I think she is an amazing artist, so open minded about sexuality, she is just out of this world:)

I think you're right hippydippy! This song really affects me. I've got a friend I've known for many years, she's very beautiful, but we've always stayed outside each other's periphery... Now I'm married and settled with children, something happened recently! We just sort of found ourselves being mutally attracted! What's quite apt is I feel that this song is literally from her point of view. I found myself standing there, watching her dance, as she tried to get me to join in. When I joined in, I could feel her heat, how much she wanted me, until she tried to kiss me. At that point, I had to leave. I'm not built that way, it's was wrong, a bad situation to be in for all parties. This song has affected even more since this has happened! But...it is also helping me understand what occurred. BTW, from my point of view the line, "They don't compare to you" doesn't match. If it did, I'd have an ego the size of Texas!

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Fast Car

"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”
