Solitude Is Bliss Lyrics
I care less and less about and less about you
No one else around to look at me
So I can look at my shadow as much as I please
Making friends like they're all supposed to
I've got body that my mind can leave
Nothing else matters, I don't care what I miss
Company's okay
Solitude is bliss
Quite like it does when I'm alone
I'll be the one who's free
You and all your friends
Can watch me, today

This song is such an Introvert Anthem! Love it! Obviously, I think it's about being introverted & finding your inner world more fascinating than interacting with other people. No one can compare to how the imaginative world in his mind makes him feel.

I thinks it's not only about preferring physical solitude, but recognizing and enjoying the fact that everyone is alone. Alone in the sense that they are limited to their own consciousness and cannot fully understand another's. People are bound to their own perspectives and cannot purely empathize or connect, so to speak. This song is about how that isolation is actually transcendental and beautiful rather than bleak.

In an interview Kevin said the song was about how he felt about being alone, that it wasn't as fragile and dark as everyone makes it out to be.

I think that the line "you will never come close to how I feel" is a sort of double meaning. At first, it sounds like this solitude is such a nice feeling, nobody could ever experience that feeling. But to me, it seems that it also means he doesn't let anyone get close to his true feelings, leaving him in complete solitude. So because he loves the solitude, he won't let anyone get "close to how he feels."

Best on the album, lyrically IMO. the "you" is all the people who need constant accompaniment in order to feel secure or at least pleased and he's saying you will never feel the way I do because you'll never understand the enjoyment possible in solitude.

For everyone who thinks that the song has to do with drugs, or loss or some other farfetched example, just look as far as the complexity of the lyrics for an interpretation. Everything that is written is very straight foward, no hidden meanings. It's simply about enjoying and longing for solitude for all the "blissful" pleasure that it can provide.
thankyou haha

I think it's really sad that everyone tries to throw drugs and hallucinogenics into every song/writing that has to do with leaving your body, being in another place etc. If you live your life in a certain way and allow yourself to pick up on certain things you definitely do not need to be under the influence of anything to leave your body. Amazing and true song. Everyone strives so hard to maintain a life they feel they should when none if it is necessary. All you need is within. :)

i do concur with the whole introvert anthem thing, but considering they are a 'psychedelic rock project' i do believe there is more than a wink and a nod towards the psychedelic mind state, but as with any great song you can take what you want from it.
Don't get me wrong, 9/10 times i would agree that people jump on the whole "omg this is sooo about drugs yaah" bandwagon too much, but to completely dismiss those more than subtle double meanings would be equally narrow-minded.
@jonjarvis26 Great way to put it

i think it means that we are all alone, isolated, separated entities. he is, i am and you have different perspectives and feelings. and you or him can never come close to how i feel and i can never come close to how he or you feel
if you enjoy that loneliness, you are a very confident and independent person.

Yep, introvert anthem IMO. I don't think it is a song about drugs this time, just because a couple of the lyrics might hint at that doesn't mean the entire song is about it. I think the introvert interpretation works better with the majority of the lyrics. The video backs that up I think, watch the way the guy is trying to move away from the crowd and when his "alone time" is interfered he gets pretty angry (like punching a dog and human and shooting down someone).
Yes, but why in the start of the video he leaps for that ambulance? I get a feeling that he's emotional about someone and is angry because nobody could relate to him so instead he's either wasting his life (the crowd symbolizes other people doing they're daily tasks and the dog is probably his own boss or things he needs to do) or just would feel better being alone. He doesn't want to move in the same direction everybody else is going anymore (he wants to go back, perhaps to an old relationship?)
