Lucidity Lyrics

I know where you went but I don't know how you got there,
I know where you went but I don't know how you got there,
Silver tongue hill where you talk up what I'd play down,
I would speak up but I wouldn't know what to say.

Lucidity, come back to me,
put all five senses back to
where they're meant to be
Oh it's hard to tell, it breaks down,
there is a will, there is a way

Wondering around like spare time never knew it,
I might suck fizzle or I might just float away (float away)

And we'll go running off
tonight, high above, where we
won't even need to reach the
sky, my love.
Oh there will be a change
in the air, nobody will be
anybody else.

Lucidity, come back to me,
put all five sense back to
where they're meant to be.
Oh where we'll go, tip toe,
tread boldly right down
to the lair

very groovy track. Sets a nice vibe. Most of the lyrics are quite abstract "Silver tongue hill where you talk up what I' d play down" etc. The obvious interpretation is that he is peaking in a psychedelic experience and he wants to come down "lucidity come back to me." "I might suck fizzle or I might just float away" is a cool line. Man I want to hit the bong or the mushrooms every time I here this track, or even the whole album! :) I've trawled through their early stuff on utube and I don't think I've heard a bad track. long live tame impala!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tame Impala is absolutely amazing. They are this generations psychadelic band. They sound exactly the same in live concert. i went to an MGMT concert and Tame Imapla opened for them, quite the combination! Anyways this song is absolutely amazing along with the band in general!!

This song is about how Kevin Parker has a powerful psychedelic journey which enables him to see clearly once again, he started smoking so much weed that he got so far off that he doesn't even know how he ended up in this emotional swamp. Weed has the power to let you forget all your problems and push them back without dealing with them. When you are smoking that much weed though it tends to build up in your system and cause side effects even when you don't smoke. It's hard to explain what this song is about without the context from the other songs. They're all tied together and the common theme is emotional pain and struggling to deal with it. I have struggled with these problems myself and listening to this music helps quide me through becuase I know that someone else has gone through it and he's doing just fine making awesome.

Song Meaning

@Lukathey in interviews Kevin talks about how music fills a void within him (which I'm guessing is seeded with his parents getting divorced when he was young) I think that a common theme in innerspeaker is that he was filling the void with drugs and now he has had a revelation to stop and fill the void with something good and productive

this song is soo beautiful. fave off the entire album. Tame Impala are gonna be big, I can feel it.

My Opinion

i agree. I've loved them ever since their first EP came out. Now Half full glass of wine is on the credits of HBO's entourage (season 7, episode 3). it's not much, but still great for them :)

Incredible how in 5 comments, 4 didn't even refer to the meaning of the song, and 1 only referred to the most obvious and futile meaning ("ooohhh maaaan let's get hiiiiggh" etc). This only shows how the world is rotten.

In my interpretation, this song has no linear meaning. But it's certainly about not feeling quite lucid, but not necessarily from drugs. It's about not being sure of things. But also the beauty and freedom of that ( And we'll go running off\tonight, high above, where we\won't even need to reach the \sky, my love.) But what's really interesting is not these themes, which have been widely used in other lyrics, but the way Kevin writes it. Very original, very colorful.

So when you take the word Lucidity as the dictionary defines it as, it means "Easily understood; intelligible", so he wants the ability to understand back. He wants his understanding of this girl back, and he describes how when he can understand her again they'll run off and be happy together.

There's a pretty good chance this song is about lucid dreaming. Those who have had them know they are a fleeting experience but a total rush. I imagine he wants to stay in that state longer next time, and is maybe trying to learn from another lucid dreamer.

i can't really say. not at all. shrug
